Like it or not, this is a question that will continue to be asked, and the terrible answer has already begun to take a convincing shape.Recently, Fox News analyst Brit Hume told Shannon Bream that “it’s time to consider the possibility” that “this lockdown -- as opposed to more moderate mitigation efforts -- is a colossal public policy calamity.” He goes on to reference the millions of jobs, businesses, and incomes lost, and further mentions the negative “effect on children who don’t have a normal life,” concluding that “we may never recover from many of these losses for a very long time if ever.”

Of course it was, to the democraps...just another attempt to bring Trump down since the locker room tape, Stormy Daniels, Russian election interference, Flynn, and the Ukraine phone call didn't work, they just 'have' to keep trying since they can't control him like the previous tenants of the White House....

I'm old by most standards and have lived through disease epidemics including polio. Never before has the country shutdown like this. Look at what has happened. Small businesses closed, schools closed, food distribution systems disrupted, churches closed, medical system is mostly shutdown and being destroyed, constitutional rights of citizens suspended such of freedom of religion, freedom to assemble, and freedom movement. People have become fearful, selfish hoarders, and hide from each other behind masks. All this has been done without a single vote of our elected representatives. Meanwhile the people have hardly protested. Fellow citizens, wake up! You are losing your rights and freedoms. The government is not our savior or friend.

I am in the group that should be careful. I have an auto immune disease and am over sixty . Not for one second did I think we should shut everything down. I can make my own decisions on how best to avoid the virus. Young healthy people should not be in quarantine or should make the call themselves also.

I am of the opinion that this total lockdown was not the best solution for this problem, but with “experts” screaming in your ear, ‘two million Americans will die’, what do you do? Well, now we know. Get more information before you make that decision. Fauci and Birx should have been challenged by other voices with like credentials. So, now we know this wasn’t the best advice that the President could be given and I believe he knows that now too. What now?
I believe the President would want to reopen the country but he knows the outcry from the left will be deafening. They know that this is destroying the economy and are hoping that it will do to the President what it is doing to the economy. He really is in a no win situation. Also I believe the doom and gloom is overhyped. We may never recover?? Why? This is the United States of America. Get the democrats out of the way, and we can come roaring back. First, we have to have an avenue to return and that is going to have to come from we the people. We must insist that we get back to work. This is our country and to allow the democrats to destroy it simply out of hate and spite is not an option. Call, use social media, and email any member of government you can. A massive outpouring of letters would get their attention. Support those members of congress who want to reopen. We cannot allow democrats to bully us into silence. It is clear to anyone who Is reasonable that the democrats will do anything to destroy this President and his supporters.
The media will push this crisis harder now than ever because they must keep the General Flynn revelation off the news. If common sense, rational thinking Americans have learned anything it is that the democrats will destroy this country to gain power.

President Trump, the answer to this question is NO. What you need to do is switch out the current two Drs. (Fauci/Brix) with doctors with hands on experience. The new Doctors need to let the people of the U.S. know that this virus is not much different than prior viruses. The risk are the elderly, people with underlying conditions, etc. But the young and healthy are low risk to dying, It's the FEAR that needs to be removed. They also need to know that the sooner they treat someone with medication that contracts the virus, the more likely to a speedy recovery.

What would the pilgrims think of their progeny? They got on boats, not knowing if they would survive the trip here. On the Mayflower, 45 of the 102 died the first year from lack of shelter, scurvy, and conditions on the ship. But they persevered. In 2020 we are cowering in our homes due to a virus less dangerous than many faced by our ancestors. Sure China is to blame for much of this damage, but some has been self-inflicted.
1) Anyone who is terrified should stay home.
2) Everyone who is willing and under 60 should get out there, get exposed, get over it, get rid of it.
3) Even those over 60 should have the right to choose to take the risk of leaving their home.

Yes, and the left couldn't be happier because the left think bringing 40 million Americans to their knees financially to get them to vote dim in November is well worth the price. The ends justifies the means.
Americans should wake up and understand what the dims and msm just did to them by using fear to shut down the country. Destruction of the dim party is the only way through this. Never vote dim at any level. Boycott the msm...permanently.

What scares me is that this crisis has shown that there are so many with the socialist/communist mindset - "the state says" or "the governor says", or "the policeman says". It as if no one knows anything about The Bill of Rights, and, unfortunately, a lot of people don't anything about them because their teachers didn't teach them in school.

I guess I'm in the high risk zone at 77, but, along with other friends in the same zone, have been living my life as near to normal as possible. We've been fishing, dining and getting together for drinks since this began. We've never sat in each other's laps, but we've maintained a 1 to 2 foot separation and no one has contacted the dreaded virus. While we miss taking the wives out to eat, we can get together and enjoy cooking and eating together. The mask thing is a pain in the behind, but we comply when we have too. The stores here are not fanatics, so while it's inconvenient, it's not impossible. I guess our 'elites' in government look down on us, but as more and more Americans grow tired of the petty tyrants, the restrictions will be eased, if only to preserve their place at the government trough.

I'm quite fed up with all this 20/20 hind sight. All the simplistic "solutions" to complex issues. The big problem remaining is the final chapter on the effect of this pandemic hasn't been written. Science has learned an enormous amount in a short period but there still are many unknowns. One thing is crystal clear; there is a huge amount of unnecessary regulation in place and I don't think it has much to do with protecting the public.

Now there are small groups, getting a lot of media attention, that want to shut down business' for a ''May Day'' strike. This is not happening in a single, or even neighboring location. This is an organized and orchestrated action to further hurt theses business', while strikers (a small group of activists) supposedly are doing it for more money and benefits.
I don't know if this is the union trying to take advantage of the pandemic, like the democrats are, or a coordinated scheme by the democrats to harm the economy any way they can. Either way, it smells like a democrat rat!

Well, so far it's only an "attempted murder." And it's still in progress,so the perpetrators/conspirators are pretty obvious. Like an episode of "Dateline," we're seeing the evidence dribbled out slowly and the suspects interviewed trying to cover their tracks.
Two months into this episode it's clear as the botox bugged out eyeballs of Nancy Pelosi who did this. And they're STILL desperately trying to finish the job and greatly enjoying the torturing they're inflicting. This time we don't even need Keith Morrison and his undertaker's baritone voice to point out that it's the fake-loving-spouse DEMOCRATS who did this and are continuing to do it by cleverly putting the lockdown antifreeze into the country's Gatorade!
Why? As always, to get out of the marriage, take not only the house but also get control of all the insurance money and be free to do everything they've always wanted to do.
Guilty. Now the only question is, locked up for life, or death penalty?

I live in UpState New York State. Gov Cuomo has many people PETRIFIED to the point of panic. Usually very busy streets are virtually empty. Counties that have hardly any cases of COVID-19 vs their population are still locked down. Normally kind people are yelling at folks in public places to stay away from them . People that badly need surgeries are all denied, with the hospitals calling virtually any malady elective, which is INSANE. It is a sad situation up here.

Fauci and Birx are considered "experts" because they made their bones in the AIDS era and that automatically qualifies them to be the last voice on anything. It's also why Trump can't fire them. He was told 2+ million would die without radical action and so he listened to the "experts." What I don't think he counted on was that the majority of our citizens would be so frightened to come out of their houses that getting back to "normal" is going to take a miracle. The media, the Democrats, Benito Cuomo, all say we will never get back to what we had, and the morons on Fox even agree. That is such BS and with every breath we have we must scream that we will get back to what we had. WE WILL MAKE IT SO. In fact, this nonsense phrase "new normal" should be changed to "temporary normal." Implying we will not give up and we will get back to where we were.
I said to my internist the other day, (who believes the reaction was way overblown and that schools should be open immediately) I think our country has made the biggest mistake in its history. And he agreed. Trump and we all have to get our arms around getting us back immediately. Trump has to find a way to mitigate the fear so that people will go out of their houses. Fauci is the man that can do that, but he won't. Anyone smell a Demorat?

We are only talking about the US economy, but the same thing happened ALL OVER THE WORLD. There was a global economic collapse. We will be feeling the after effects of this long after CV19 is a distant memory. How much instability and tyranny will spring up thanks to this? Meanwhile China is laughing its rear end off.
The big government types love it. It gives them control.
Trump should have kicked his 'advisors' out of his office, and fired half of them when they told him he has to kill the economy. There are priorities. Its the economy stupid. Even in a pandemic.

Yes if you're Drs. Fauci and Birx and you have ( for some strange reason) the President's ear. Yes we know if Trump had listened to these "experts" and people died, the press would be all over him. Well, he listened to his "experts" and some people died but not as many as these "experts" models predicted and Trump is still being attacked by the press. So why did he cave to them? Not seek out other experts? Criticize the Georgia Governor when he announced opening up the state? Criticism Sweden? Buy into this phone social distancing crap?

We need to be loud in resisting the "New Normal." I say H3LL NO! Fauci and Birx are deep state and foisted upon President Trump on purpose. I don't trust Pence either. He is involved in PEPFAR with Fauci and Birx and Gates. The majority of We the People need to say NO to "new normal" and NO to the supposed vaccine Bill Gates wants to give to everyone on earth. Since Gates has stated numerous times he thinks the world population should be paired down to 500 million, people would be stupid to take it. Research PEPFAR.

This strikes me as the last gasp of the globalist/UNIPARTY cabal that is threatened by Trump and a resurgence of nationalism here, in Britain and possibly much of the developed world. That must be arrested quickly. There are many wheels turning within wheels as opportunity presents itself here and around the world...and the developed world is consumed by this virus and self-quarantine, etc. Hysteria is still the worst disease, and many have it bad.

Congressman Ruiz said this morning “we are going to have to keep shutting the economy down over and over again.”. Oh really!? Thanks for letting us know what you really have planned for us. Since we are all a bunch of three year old children and don’t know how to walk and chew gum we need government to keep us safe even if it means completely destroying everything. This isn’t an opportunity to protect lives it’s an opportunity for massive government controls to be imposed on the country in the name of health safety.

Money paragraph FTA:
In spite of the efforts of those who have a vested interest in justifying the lockdowns and the economic damage, the truth is snowballing, and it all suggests a very disturbing conclusion -- America could have achieved a similar health outcome without destroying millions of businesses, incomes, and lives, without weakening our nation’s fiscal solvency by trillions of dollars, and most importantly, without compromising our most fundamental American rights.”
Indeed, the Coronavirus chickens are steadily coming home to roost.

The president has handled this perfectly, imho. Let me explain:
As @unseen1_unseen has discussed on twitter, with no action taken, we could have had an 18 month slow rolling shutdown due to people withdrawing and staying home on their own as the media hyped the fear to levels not seen. Millions of deaths. No stimulus money, just a bleeding of the economy. It would have made 1930 look like the roaring 20's. It would have taken years to recover. Instead we have had 2 months -TWO months- of quick and strategic action by our president and money to hold us over as we start to bounce back. Could not have been handled better, in my humble opinion.
The fact is we are having to face the facts that a very contagious virus laced through our country and the world. It made us extremely vulnerable. In the 21st century we expect this to never happen(it should not have, as we all know). But it did. Lots of grieving taking place just about now: we are not invincible.
Thank you Mr. President for an excellent job well done. Our best president ever. I could not feel safer with you at the helm. No one could have handled this better.

Killing the economy was not necessary. Fortunately for President Trump nearly every politician, even those that hate him, concurred with his administration's guidelines which did indeed did lead to the shut down of the economy. His instincts were correct when at the beginning he commented that the virus had to "wash through" the nation. Sadly he relied on the experts whose recommendations offered the Democrat governors their opportunity to let their inner Mussolini's ran rampant. President Trump owns the shutdown and he can own the recovery.
He needs to change the focus on repairing the damage he, the experts and the governors have wrought. Declare victory, use the absurd numbers such as two million deaths unless the country shut down, and rouse the voters with a positive message of getting this country back to the normal we had at the beginning of this year. No talk of a new normal. Point out that the democrats are enjoying the shutdown and will use it to push the decrepit Biden over the finishing line. No one is better at rallying the people than President Trump. Make American Great Again!
Above all don't mention Sweden. I was appalled that yesterday he once again bad-mouthed Sweden, stating inaccurately that its death rate is worse than ours and the other countries' that adopted the shutdown strategy. He knows darn well that when the dust settles the Swedish response will be acknowledged to have been superior to that of the USA, France, the Netherlands, etc. Sweden will reach herd immunity, the only rational means to end this virus' rampage, months before we will. Sad, but I believe that our president can restore us to the success that has been the signature of his presidency.

As much as I hate saying this...yes. If we hadn't, President Trump would have been blamed for every corona virus death. Now we can say he consulted with the best of the best experts and acted on their advise. He can say we were totally unprepared from the NIH and CDC for this type of pandemic. He can also boast about the great job we did in a short amount of time. Also, when we introduce a vaccine, many millions of lives will be saved going forward into the future. The United States will become more independent by pulling away from China. The economy will rebound and so will our lifestyle.
As Americans, we should help support our small businesses and merchants every chance we get. Spend money on helping our communities and neighborhoods thrive. I have no doubt that this challenge will be met by that magnanimous American Spirit. We did it before and will do it again, especially now that we have a great leader at the helm.
Let's roll folks and Make America Great Again.

It has been a huge mistake and self imposed disaster, which is why the Democrats are for it, and keep egging it on. It is incredible that this action was taken, all without any debate. Even our CEO's have embraced shutting down their businesses and keeping them shutdown, imposing even more draconian measures than recommended, all to make any shopping experience better done over the internet than visiting their stores. I despise all these dictators, their intrusion into my life, their panicking everyone to such a degree that they are afraid to get within 10 feet of me. The perpetrators of this lockdown disaster should be tried and hung for it.
