Democrats are seizing on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) suggestion that states should be able to declare bankruptcy as the party looks to bring his Kentucky seat into play.
The GOP leader has made his outsized influence in Washington a key pillar of his campaign, positioning himself as the driving force behind Congress’s coronavirus relief bills and touting his efforts to score critical federal aid for his state.
But Democrats believe McConnell’s remarks — that states facing budget shortfalls amid the pandemic should be able to “use the bankruptcy route” — blow a hole in his reelection argument.

Yet another Dem-LSM fantasy. Gosh, if we just say this is so, it will be so.

I don't think the folks in Kentucky are interested in handing over the hard earned money they made to Illinois. IIllinois has had corrupt Democrats running their State into the ground for decades. The members in their Unions are making more money than some Governors. Their Retirement packages are one of the best of any state in the country. So, does that mean now, when they can't fund their Retirement packages we, the rest of the country, should send buckets of money to Illinois to bail them out. NO! I don't think ANYONE in another state is interested in doing that!! We also don't want our Government to bail them out. So, to get back to McConnell's re-election being in trouble in Kentucky, I don't think so!

The furor is from the Blue states. Who says that we have to support them. If the voters want a badly run state, that’s their problem.

I would be willing to bet the states get more or less what they want.

There is no way that the states should get any non-related funds. the epidemic did NOT cause their bloated pension funds to fail, nor certain other costs which they incurred due to absurd leftist pet policies (such as for illegal immigrants).
Hold the line, Mitch!

Okay. Let's allow the Democrats to make this an issue.
I even got the ad to fight it (in non-bankrupt states). You save and save for a rainy day. When the rainy day comes, the free spending poiliticians (use a pic of drunken, partying hacks) in IL, CA, NY, NJ, CT want YOU to pay for their party. Just say NO!
I don't think Pres Trump has much of a chance of winning most of those states anyway.

Another vicious attack from the Hill because Mitch, like the rest of us, refuse to bail out blue state pension funds.

Sure. People in Montana should pay for Illinois state pensions, which the state underfunded/spent. Personal responsibility applies to politicians at their jobs too!
Democrats see the Chinese virus as an opportunity for a big money grab, at the expense of taxpayers everywhere!

Kentucky will have Trump on the top of the ballot in the Fall and there is ZERO chance it will go Blue in the Senate Race

First, States don't have that ability, but Cities and Counties do.
What Mitch was referring to is maybe States should ALSO have that option.
But, if they did, it could also unwind many of those pension obligations and other benefits Democrats have doled out over the years to buy votes.
I'm not against public employees enjoying nice benefits, but it should also be the obligation of the State to ensure they have the working environment to produce the revenues needed to support those obligations. It should not simply be to get more from whomever is living there without significant growth. And, they should not be allowed to increase public employment without already having a plan of what revenues will support that increase in people.

The PRESIDENT made it very clear what the Administration's viewpoint was. States that have fallen into financial distress BECAUSE of the Coronavirus will be considered for aide, while States that were in financial distress PRIOR to the Coronavirus, because they do not know how to handle thi budgets ( That's YOU whiney NEW YORK AND ILLINOIS, who NEVER have enough money because of incompetence and corruption ) can take a hike. I live in nYs and the amount of money it takes in is astronomical; the idiotic things the money is spent on is ludicrous.

If we could get another republican into his seat, I would love for Turtle to be retired this year. Given that it is seniority in the Senate that decides who gets to be the Majority leader, I would love to see Turtle gone. Let's hope we keep the Senate majority this year.
