Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday said he will let the state’s stay-at-home order expire at the end of the month, and allow businesses to begin opening in phases in May.First to open on Friday: Retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters and malls. But they will only be allowed to operate at 25% capacity. Museums and libraries will also be allowed to open at 25% capacity, but hands-on exhibits must remain closed. Abbott's order supersedes local orders saying those businesses must remain closed. But the reopenings are optional. Businesses can stay closed if they wish, Abbott said.At the same time, Abbott said he is holding off on reopening certain businesses

Hmmm. 25% capacity only.
I am no businessman. I hope this is enough to warrant re-opening at all.
That said, thank you to Governor Abbott for your courage.

That's good news, and even better that Gov. Abbott got rid of the foolish fines and penalties for not wearing masks from the DemStapo liars. Amazingly, Eva Braun Hidalgo in Harris County just said her order will remain in place regardless of Gov. Abbott's new order. The Socialist idiot is not a happy camper, and a fool to pick this hill to die on. Her order is unconstitutional and the police are giving it no enforcement mechanism, thus rendering it meaningless.

According to the publication Bizfluent, the model business model for a fine dining establishment is 18-20 square feet of space per each customer. Social distancing at a recommended radius of six feet would require 36 sf per consumer, meaning that a restaurant at peak hours could never be more than half full. Tables set more than two patrons would also be problematic. (A restaurant owner interviewed on Fox said he could not reopen with a 50 percent cap on dining space.) Did he discuss his plan with the Texas Restaurant Association, or is it simply arbitrary? What about the National Theater Owners Association? I fear too many of the new rules created by governors will lack the input of affected industries, and may be impractical. That is the problem with centralized planning.

More solid leadership from Texas. Could there be a more welcome development during this crisis? Restaurant staff must be really hurting after two months of lockdown and no income. Practically all customers are getting tired of their own cooking as well, -- I´d love to have a good Mexican dinner right now!

"...we must also come together to begin rebuilding the lives and the livelihoods of our fellow Texans."
Nice sentiment. Now, who's going to provide the resources that were denied Texans over the weeks of shutdowns? The good news is restaurants, among others, are re-opened...but cannot exceed more than 25 percent capacity, so operating at a lesser rate. It's hard to pay the bills, let alone restore capital, with a hamstrung business and constricted cash flow. Given the uncertainty, many may prefer to stay closed. We'll see.

What an idiot! This is not good enough. Open up everything and let people decide how they want to handle this. After all, if you don't open up daycare centers, many people are not going to be able to return to work.

Amen to much said here on this. And thanks to Governor Abbott for the courage to lead on this. May his move pay off for Texans and spark a worldwide recovery.

Sorry for the second post, wanted to update. Little AOC Hidalgo in Harris County just announced that her executive order will be revised to comply with the Texas Governor's order and guidelines.

So if my family goes out to eat or to a movie can we sit together or must we obey the (completely arbitrary) 6 foot rule?
If we can, what if a group claims to be a family but isn't - who is going to verify?
Can my wife and mistress sit together?
So many questions

Keep socialist cities locked down indefinitely. Re-open Free America immediately. This is an opportunity to crush socialism.

Restaurants make very low margins, a few percentage points of total revenue. The restaurants are going to be operating at a loss. I can't see this working.
