Trump is having his signature printed
on coronavirus stimulus checks

Original Article

The coronavirus stimulus checks are getting a bit of the president’s personal flair. The Treasury Department has ordered President Trump’s signature to be printed on the checks the IRS sending to tens of millions of Americans—a mandate that will slow the delivery of the badly needed aid by several days, according to a report in the Washington Post.(Snip) The president’s signature has never before graced an IRS payout; checks from the Treasury Department are typically signed by a civil servant to present the payments as nonpartisan. The payments are part of the $2.2 trillion relief package passed by Congress

Comments:

Obamaphones, Obamacare? No problem. Our president's signature on a check? A partisan scandal.

I'm glad mine is going to my bank. Otherwise I might not cash it. Maybe the anti-Trumpers will be so upset they'll shred it and never cash it. I love it when a plan comes together.

No one seems to know how the feds are determining who gets the money first. But it does seem to be clear that that those who already have bank info on file in either the Social Security database or the IRS database will get direct deposit before anyone gets a real check in the mail. Paper checks were going to go out in May, according to all available information. So this is not "holding up" any checks. Note that "journalists" cannot get the facts straight, calling an ACH transfer / direct deposit a "check." This may be financial ignorance on the part of "journalists" or just inaccurate or misleading reporting.

More than 20 million Americans lack “meaningful broadband service” as people turn to the internet for school and work during the coronavirus crisis, Virginia Sen. Mark Warner warned federal regulators. “Under the current circumstances, this lack of broadband access threatens to greatly—and potentially lastingly—exacerbate disparities in health, education and economic equity,” said Mr. Warner, a Democrat, in a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai on Thursday. He noted that 770,000 Virginians don’t have broadband access. Mr. Warner urged the FCC to take immediate steps to help close the “digital divide,” including relaxing restrictions on signal contours in rural and exurban areas,

Sen. Tom Cotton said today communist China paid “bribes” to Ethiopia when World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom was a cabinet minister there. In 2017, the WHO spoke of a “strategic partnership” with China as Mr. Tedros prepared to travel to Beijing to cement ties as one of his first acts as new director-general. Mr. Cotton, Arkansas Republican, is a fierce critic of Beijing for what he says is an unprecedented coverup of a health catastrophe that has killed thousands globally. He offered the Ethiopian history as a way to explain Mr. Tedros‘ continued defense of China.

There is increasing confidence that COVID-19 likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory not as a bioweapon, but as part of China's effort to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States, multiple sources who have been briefed on the details of early actions by China's government and seen relevant materials tell Fox News. This may be the "costliest government coverup of all time," one of the sources said. The sources believe the initial transmission of the virus was bat-to-human, and that "patient zero" worked at the laboratory,

President Trump’s campaign says former Vice President Joe Biden is not up for the job, taking a swing at his 2020 rival for calling the coronavirus that’s shut down the country for several weeks “COVID-9.” The accurate name, which has been repeated on broadcasts daily for more than a month, is COVID-19, named after the year it originated, 2019. “Joe Biden masquerades as the guy with all the answers on the coronavirus but then he demonstrates quite clearly that he has no idea what he’s talking about,” said Tim Murtaugh, Trump 2020 communications director. The criticism comes after Mr. Biden was caught on video

Two Democratic congressmen have proposed expanding the coronavirus relief program to give Americans $2,000 a month until the economy recovers. The checks would go to individuals making less than $130,000 or couples who earn less than $260,000 and would be steady source of income, unlike the first round of individual checks, which, at up to $1,200, were a one-time deposit. The money would cease when unemployment returns to its pre-coronavirus levels. Representatives Tim Ryan of Ohio and Ro Khanna of California said their Emergency Money for the People Act would provide more relief as workers face pay cuts, layoffs and furloughs
