JUMONVILLE, Pennsylvania — We are a country built on not one, but several, leaps of faith.Certainly, it was a leap of faith when a young George Washington, then a lieutenant colonel of the colonial forces, found himself mired in a deadly skirmish here in this densely wooded mountaintop of Chestnut Ridge. He, his men, and ultimately his cause, protecting the property lines of the British colonies, would prevail. That faith didn’t exactly work out the way Washington believed at the time. He was looking for glory and ascension within the ranks of Britain’s colonial army; what he ultimately achieved here was the first shots of the French and Indian War.

As the articles reminds us, we come from a long line of individuals who have shown great faith in God, our fellow Americans, and in our country down through our history. Presently our faith is being tried again and I am confident that we will come through this trial stronger and wiser for it. This will strengthen our faith in God and each other. We see it in the acts of kindness and selflessness of our fellow Americans. We will always find ways to help each other in times of crisis. Some can do and are doing more but others who physically are unable are offering support, encouragement and prayer. We truly live in a blessed nation. Our President recognizes the importance of faith in our lives especially in times like these. God bless him and each of my LDotter friends as we celebrate a day of hope and promise this Easter Sunday.

FTA - "But what makes the people of this country extraordinary, whether their family has worked this land for nine generations or only been here since November, is the remarkable strength of our belief in each other, even when that belief is outside the boundaries of reason."
We still watch the Ten Commandments movie every year on this day of the Ascension. Gold bless you, L.dotters, and may God Bless America and the President of the United States and his family. Happy Easter, all.

Glad to see this thread and be able to wish my fellow L-Dotters Happy Easter. Whatever our denomination or style of belief, this venue feels like our modern day catacombs.
This Easter it feels particularly significant, as though our country is experiencing a divine intervention. Everyone here has no doubt sensed our country's long, slow drift into darkness in the last few decades. What human or human-directed action could possibly change that drift and that dark direction? And then it happened, an event stopping the entire world.
In spite of the toll that has already happened and perhaps will continue for some time, I see the potential for great goodness to emerge from this intervention. Among other re-evaluations, I sense that the family unit, first and foremost, will re-emerge as the essential building block of any stable and successful society. Not simply the economic system, but the family. Staying together, playing together, praying together, helping others together. Carrying on and reinforcing traditions. The beliefs and traditions that created this great country.
Another resurrection is happening. Give thanks and carry it on, my friends.

Happy Easter fellow L-Dotters. I echo many of the aforementioned posts. We have our God, our Mary and a host of Angels with this wonderful Country. He will give us and especially our President, the strength to pull through this, and succeed greatly as we have always done in the past. Americans will keep on helping Americans, the rest of the evil is being exposed, maybe that is good now that some people will have their eyes opened. Best Easter or Passover wishes to all y'all here (esp. Timber Queen) and let's press. Semper Fidelis,,,,,

#8 - And with your spirit!
In contemplating the word "leap" I find its not as fantastic as it sounds, nor as impossible as thought by the godless. Holy Scripture give us the image of a deer leaping across streams of living water. As a city girl this only brought to mind the Bambi cartoon and talking animals. After 20 years in the forest I have gained a fuller understanding of the psalmist's analogy.
I have watched deer jump over my (first) 8-foot garden fence from a standing position, eat their fill and jump back over again. I have seen them leap from a 10-foot high embankment over a 6-foot wide swollen creek of roiling water and safely land on the other side. I have witnessed amazing feats of athleticism executed with flawless grace and beauty. Our Creator designed their hind legs in such a fashion that sure-footedness is just part of their operating system. Every animal or creature was given some advantage over those that prey upon them that is natural and used without thinking.
However, God the Father endowed mankind with a soul and free will because He thirsted for willing minds and hearts to share in His Love. Our yearning to reject evil and unite with Him is part of our operating system. For those that seek, knock and ask the spiritual sure-footedness of a deer is given to our souls, and then infuses our hearts and minds with the same assured abilities. We can leap across temptation, across doubt and across roiling waters with the same unquestioning faith that a deer has to leap across a stream. Faith, Hope and Love give our souls sure-footedness in this life because we know once we are on the other side, The Best Is Yet To Come.
He Is Risen! Alleluia, alleluia!!!

This article is another unexpected treasure (like children looking for that golden egg hidden in plain sight on the lawn). If you can find it, listen to Boris Johnson's message of thanks for his return home after the illness. My tiny little church held Easter service on-line, complete with a Communion service. Of course, the One Who Died for Us, knew all about it before it happened. Happy Easter, and Blessed Pesach to all.

French Lt Jumonville killed by Indians in 1754 in the glen below the crest, where Geo. Washington started the shooting of the 7 Years world war between the French and English. In 1755 Lt Col Geo Washington saved the remnants of General Braddock’s disastrous attempt to attack the French at now Pittsburgh; Braddock’s quartermaster blew up the supply wagons at Jumonville to prevent them from falling into the hands of the French. The PA Soldiers Civil War Orphans home (now the church camp) has a tiny museum where you can see the lead musket balls used by soldiers ‘biting the bullet’ before anesthesia invented for primitive surgeons. They found general Braddocks grave a few miles from there In 1804. Who knew the world as we know it started in these beautiful woods in nowhere PA? A state founded by Quakers escaping English Anglican oppression.
