What will happen next with the coronavirus epidemic is unknown, but it seems certain to claim one very high-profile victim: the so-called Green New Deal.
Good riddance.
The current crisis in the U.S. economy is, in miniature but concentrated form, precisely what the Left has in mind in response to climate change: shutting down large sectors of the domestic and global economies through official writ, social pressure, and indirect means, in response to a crisis with potentially devastating and wide-ranging consequences for human life and human flourishing.
What is under way right now in response to the epidemic is in substance much like the Green New Deal

Goodbye and good riddance. By the way, that's why Cuomo is whining that NY isn't getting enough bailout money. He wants to hog it all so he can have more free money to hand it over to wind and solar farms. That's why he unilaterally changed the regulation so constituents would have no say in changing wind/solar footprints.
Unfortunately with greedy demonrats they never let a crisis go to waste if they can benefit from it.

I wish it were that simple. We are seeing the collapse of Socialist states in real time. It is a societal disaster. It is raw chaos. Look back to recent history and there are other examples. Cuba sits as a Communist state and we can see the crumbling infrastructure and the pretend education and healthcare systems.
And yet a significant portion of Americans think Socialism/Communism is an acceptable system. If we were to consider a New Green Deal, the political leadership would declare that the result would NOT be the same as we are in now. That's what they did under BO. HIS programs, the same that had failed in the past, would succeed because BO was with us, kinda like "the force". Dems operate in a cult of personality. Failed programs, minimum wage, can be relaunched endlessly because it is the PERSON that is trying to do it that will make the difference. The proven weakness of the ideas they push have no bearing on the outcome. Dems are always looking for the unicorn to save them. There is a sizable chunk of the public that always seems to be willing to help them search for their mythological savior.

Reply two’s last sentence brought this to mind:
“... if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Messiah!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it.” — Matthew 24:23

The American people are proving themselves as hysterics and hypochondriacs. The numbers don’t and haven’t added up to anywhere near catastrophe except economics. And after this has played out, Americans will be told they saved themselves at great cost to their future. They have succumbed to authorities that do not exist, taken their trillions in free government money, and will return for more with the next round of hysteria induced by government and media. This Green New Deal is far, far from dead. It’s coming...

Bad data will tend to influence decision making, and lead to non optimal policy making. In the case of the CoronaVirus 19 it appears to be an error on the side of safety. In the Green Deal scenario the data in the models was intentionally built into the models to produce the desired conclusion. Either way, World wide Economic decline is not the way to go. IMHO

When it comes to the Rats, their bad ideas never die, they merely go into hibernation until they think the time is right to try again. Remember, socialized medicine didn't die with Hillarycare. It came roaring back with Obama, And even though Trump has rolled back most of Obamacare, the Rats keep trying to revive it. You can't cure stupid, and the Rats are the living proof of that. The Green New Deal will surely be heard from again.

The main difference between virus control actions taken now and intended actions to bring about the Green New Deal is that the Communists do not intend to give Americans a choice. Our guns would theoretically be confiscated and Commie Brownshirts would be patrolling our neighborhoods to force compliance. Our cars would be collected as in Obama's Cash for Clunkers program, again, by force. Sorry AOC, but civil war would break out at the first step and there would be no place for you to hide to avoid the noose. People 12 years from now would not remember your name.

I posted as a joke on FB that we are quarantined and witnessing the Bernie Sanders socialism sort of a dry run but we haven't run out of food. It's no joke this is but a tiny sample of the left's utopian dream but not on steroids.
The Green Deal isn't dead but this is what it would be like under the left's dominance and make no mistake about it.
The left never sleeps or stops with their schemes.

You can sure sense that the greenies, like Cortex, are busy tilling the soil and taking advantage of the economic shutdown caused by the virus, hoping to make it permanent and greener. No way, Cortex. Now disappear and go back to your self-quarantine permanently.

It may be dead now, but I fear our next Democrat president will be a Dr. Franenstein who will bring the corpse back to life.

Its only as down as the Democrat Party is down because the GND is the main goal of the left, it is the Democrat's best method to bring down the USA.

On the Must Reads headline, there is a typo. Should read Burning Sandals. Not Burning Sandles. But we know what you mean.

If they ever tried to enforce the green new deal there'd be so many shovels, clubs and pitchforks in the air that you wouldn't be able to see the ground. It's time for AOC and her minions to take a long hike.

But emergencies do not last forever, and emergency measures should be, by nature, temporary.
Yeah, so you can only move the Overton Window over 6 trillion at one time instead of 50 trillion or 350 trillion like the "grandstanding" Thomas Massie suggested. And, this debt we just incurred for a virus which so far is hundreds of times less dangerous than the annual Spanish flu will only take a few hundred years to repay instead of forever. It's a damn good thing no one but Massie let this crisis go to waste, right everybody?

Little Ms. AOC did herself no favors with her stunningly juvenile performance in the Congress yesterday. Arms waving, voice screeching and nearly hysterical, AOC embarrassed not only herself, but me as a woman. She looked like a 10 year old having a tantrum. The video of her was shown on The Five. When it was finished there was absolute stunned silence for about five seconds. Even from Juan. Hopefully this will be the start of the end for her.
