Italy's in dire need of help. Its health care system is collapsing. The coronavirus has put the whole country in quarantine. There are now 15,000 cases, along with 1,018 deaths, the last 24 hours bringing in 188 more. The casualty count is the highest outside China. And it's spreading fast. Until a few days ago, the problem as concentrated in the north. Now, it has spread throughout the whole country. Anyone with a heart can feel pity and an urge to help them. They need help, bad. But don't go asking the European Union. Turns out the open-borders globalist set-up is stiffing the Italians in their hour of need:

I'm assuming that Italy, and the rest of Europe, didn't close their borders to China or anywhere else where the virus was spreading. It's quite a stark contrast to the US, where the total number of cases so far is less than that in Germany. Is it going to explode here like in Europe? I hope not. It seems to be increasing incrementally rather than exponentially.

As I saw on twitter yesterday, N.Italy has a large Chinese population with ties to the Wuhan region. Cheap labor, the Chinese mob, lax regulation... the New Yorker reported on it in 2018. Coincidence? I think not. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/04/16/the-chinese-workers-who-assemble-designer-bags-in-tuscany

And for those who haven't visited Europe recently, they have taken down all the border crossings, so any infected person in Italy can hop in a car or train and go right to France, Spain, Germany, Belgium without anyone being in any position to check ANYTHING. As mentioned yesterday in one post, it is called the Schengen Area, and is most of the EU where there are no passports or border checks required any more. So no possibility of controlling this disease. Brexit is looking smarter, but will the Brits stop people from entering from infected areas? Having borders but not closing them at times like this is pretty useless. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area

I've visited several European countries, including Italy. One of the things that struck me about Italy was how expensive it was to visit. I'm sure it's expensive to live there, too. Part of the problem now is that Italians just can't seem to get their act together for anything that involves a lot of planning. It reminds me of that old joke about the difference between heaven and hell - In Heaven: The chefs are French The police are English The mechanics are German The organizers are Swiss The lovers are Italian In Hell: The chefs are English The police are German The mechanics are French The lovers are Swiss The organizers are Italian

The evidence of China’s deliberate cover-up of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan is a matter of public record. In suppressing information about the virus, doing little to contain it, and allowing it to spread unchecked in the crucial early days and weeks, the regime imperiled not only its own country and its own citizens but also the more than 100 nations now facing their own potentially devastating outbreaks. More perniciously, the Chinese government censored and detained those brave doctors and whistleblowers who attempted to sound the alarm and warn their fellow citizens when they understood the gravity of what was to come.

LIMA: China hit out on Monday at Peru's Nobel literature laureate Mario Vargas Llosa for allegedly expressing "irresponsible and prejudiced opinions" over the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. The writer penned an article for Spain's El Pais newspaper and La Republica in Peru in which he said the coronavirus outbreak would have played out differently if China was a democracy. "No-one seems to be remarking that none of this could have happened in the world if popular China was a free country and democratic rather than a dictatorship," said the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature winner. That brought a furious rebuke from the one-party state that has been widely criticised by rights groups

If one didn’t know better, he could think that China unleashed the Wuhan virus upon the world purposely to get their man, Joe Biden, elected president. Jumblin’ Joe is their man, too. It’s not just that the disease will assuredly cause economic distress as people’s lives and commerce are disrupted; it’s not just that no matter what President Trump does, the EneMedia will portray his response to the disease as lacking. (Never mind that Barack Obama apparently spread disease throughout our nation by shipping sick illegal-alien minors throughout the country. Enterovirus D68, anyone?) It’s also that the Wuhan virus has now become a handy excuse to limit debates

Along with Bill Kristol, Jennifer Rubin, Max Boot, and other once-respected intellectuals, we now see the same anti-Trump lunacy infecting Atlantic Monthly writer Anne Applebaum, whose self-important loathing for Trump has descended into outright anti-Americanism. In her case, the transmission vehicle is the coronavirus. First, she wrote a badly reasoned Atlantic Monthly piece claiming American had finally gotten its comeuppance in the coronavirus pandemic just as the Japanese got theirs before the Meiji Restoration, realizing how far behind they really were (really?). "Calls America's bluff," as she put it, implying our entire nation was some kind of con ... Then, she put out this ridiculous tweet:

We’ve shut down major parts of our economy, ranging from stores and restaurants to concert venues and bars. Schools have closed. Transportation is at a near standstill. Now, some even want to close the stock market. The question is, why? Of course, the answer to that is the threat of COVID-19, also known as the Wuhan Flu. It’s a nasty bug. But in truth, we don’t know how nasty it will be here. So far, there’s little in the way of macro-data for our outbreak. Problems in Iran and Italy, where the coronavirus has wreaked havoc, have been repeatedly highlighted by the media, but they aren’t parallels for the U.S.

How convenient. I am strongly considering a Full Pardon!” Trump tweeted on Sunday. China's CGTN, or China Global Television Network, is pretty much the RT News of China. It's the state propaganda and disinformation operation most aggressively active, and watched, by spies, of any nation that pays attention to China. Last February 2019, it was forced to register as a foreign agent. So what weird stuff it is to read that one of its reporters has been caught at the White House gate with a high fever, which is a symptom of the highly contagious coronavirus. The fever was in the 100-degree range. You'd know if you had such a fever. Yet the person was clamoring to get into a closed-quarters press briefing

The debate over the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is remarkably devoid of hard data comparisons. With President Trump’s decision on Wednesday to expand travel restrictions to the European Union, it is time to evaluate the very different approaches to travel restrictions that the U.S. and the E.U. have taken. The end of January seems long ago. Until January 30th, the World Health Organization (WHO) explicitly declined to classify the coronavirus (COVID-19) as a global emergency. It urged countries not to restrict travel or trade. The WHO announcement on travel was partially in response to the U.S. government’s January 27th recommendation that Americans “avoid all non-essential travel to China.”

What’s happening, and what should you do? First, let’s recap Monday’s market mayhem. Before the market even opened, stock futures for S&P 500 index flashed a huge 7% decline. That triggered so-called “circuit breakers,” rules that require trading to be suspended 15 minutes to prevent a panicked rush for the exits. That’s always a bad sign. Equally bad, the Dow Jones Industrial Average tanked more than 2,000 points, off 7.8%

On August 18, 1944, Senator Harry S. Truman met President Franklin D. Roosevelt for lunch at the White House. Truman had just been nominated to be Roosevelt’s running mate that year, and the two men dined on the White House lawn and chatted about the upcoming campaign. Truman had not seen the president for over a year and was shocked at Roosevelt’s haggard appearance. He noticed that FDR was so ill that he couldn’t even pour cream into his coffee. Despite seeing direct evidence of Roosevelt’s poor health, Truman told reporters afterwards that Roosevelt “Looked fine...He’s as keen as a briar.” Truman was lying. Roosevelt was a dying man,
