Joe Biden should do

While a successful politician in many ways, Joe Biden’s attempts to become president are marked by quite a severe flaw – he cannot enter a town hall without saying something stupid. What would American Democracy be without Joe Biden garlanding astonished voters with insults and imprecations of every kind? God bless that man. (Snip)Indeed, it was not until I went into the town halls of America and heard Joe Biden, aflame with righteousness, describe a young woman as a ‘lying, dog-faced pony soldier’ did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she allows crazy old men to talk nonsense

We used to allow the crazies to rant from the top of a soapbox on the village green. Now the Dems collect them up and put the behind podiums.

A very amusing column, for its compact selection of Biden’s non mots, and not least of all for the college-vouching word “deracinate” toward the end.

If I didn't hate Quid Pro Joe I might feel sorry for him. But I remember the confirmation hearings for Judges Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas where he was a skunk. As people age from middle age to old goat they pass through stages. One stage is people take away your car keys. The next stage is they take away the remote control for the tv. Slo Joe is between those two. Every politician is coached by his/her handlers to stay on topic and only repeat your talking points no matter what type of question you are asked. Plugs drifts off and talks about stuff like how little kids marvel at his leg hairs. Averadachi a roma.

Joe can't fill anything bigger than a town hall so I would imagine that he will continue using those as long as he can find his way to the podium.

Good idea; it would give him something to do, keep him off the street. And, he could stand at the door and take up Free Will offerings, like other TV preachers. He might even take in enough money for a Big Mac.

Remember after the 2000 election? Democrats were baffled that the voters hadn’t given Al Gore a third Clinton term in the midst of a good economy. Never mind that President Bill Clinton never won a majority of the vote and had been impeached for covering up his defiling of a young intern in the Oval Office. To the credit of those old Democrats, at least they were slightly capable of self-awareness. This crowd today would march right down the throat of a flaming volcano if somebody told them that doing so would hurt President Trump. After months of litigating hanging chads in Florida, those old Democrats of yore wondered

The Virginia State Senate Judiciary Committee sank the hopes of Governor Ralph Northam’s bill to expand the definition of “assault weapons,” in a bit of a surprise. Earlier this month, the narrowly divided Virginia House of Delegates passed the bill, 51-48. Democrats in the Senate were less enthusiastic, and Monday morning, Committee chairman John Edwards, Democrats Chap Petersen, Creigh Deeds, Scott Surovell, and all committee Republicans voted to send the bill to the Virginia Crime Commission for further study, meaning it will not be passed in this session. The National Rifle Association is pleased: “This is a victory for honest, hard-working Virginians who shared their support

In this post, I noted that the Culinary Workers Union, a big player in Nevada Democratic politics, is attacking Bernie Sanders over his “Medicare for All” proposal. I figured that these attacks would harm Sanders’s Nevada caucuses campaign. However, the Union hasn’t endorsed another candidate. Thus, to the extent that its attacks on Sanders dissuade members from supporting the Vermont socialist, these members are likely to split their vote among other candidates, thereby decreasing the harm to Sanders. Polling in Nevada seems to confirm this analysis. Sanders leads, but his lead isn’t as large as it likely would have been had the Culinary Workers Union not blasted him on health insurance.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell cited a record 11-year expansion, an economy “resilient to the global headwinds,” “near half-century lows for more than a year” regarding unemployment, and how “GDP rose at a moderate rate over the second half of last year” in his appearances before Congress last week. But his more oblique warnings about what should happen if a recession occurs came as the most interesting part of his words to the Senate Banking Committee and the House Financial Services Committee. He essentially told Congress that economic gimmickry in sunny financial times leaves policymakers with few tools to combat a recession once the clouds roll into town.

NEW YORK — As Mike Bloomberg celebrated his 48th birthday in 1990, a top aide at the company he founded presented him with a booklet of profane, sexist quotes she attributed to him. A good salesperson is like a man who tries to pick up women at a bar by saying, “Do you want to f---? He gets turned down a lot — but he gets f----- a lot, too!” Bloomberg was quoted in the booklet as saying. Bloomberg also allegedly said that his company’s financial information computers “will do everything, including give you [oral sex]. I guess that puts a lot of you girls out of business.”

Things are getting testy out in Nevada as we crash headlong toward caucus day. And with Joe Biden seeing his previous lead in the polls slipping away to Bernie Sanders, he has to find a way to draw a distinction and deflate some of the Democratic Socialist’s momentum. That means breaking out the oppo folder and finding some of Bernie’s old votes to throw in his face. This weekend Uncle Joe reached all the way back to 2005 when Sanders was still in the House of Representatives, bringing up his vote in favor of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).

Though we’re in the early stages of the 2020 campaign cycle, voters have already delivered a verdict on one thing: They are seeking a candidate that stands for something. On the Republican side, President Trump has gained full control of a party that once viewed him with suspicion — drawing only token opposition in the primaries. As president, he has mostly pursued the type of policies — a mix of traditional Republicanism with more populist stances on immigration and trade — that he campaigned on. And he has maintained the same smash mouth political style. Whether they like him or are repulsed by him,

A bill that would make Washington, D.C., the 51st U.S. state was approved by a Democratic-led House committee last week, setting the stage for a vote by the full chamber in the near future. If it passes, as expected, it will be the first time the campaign to bestow statehood on the nation’s capital has been endorsed by one of the chambers of Congress. Republicans in the Senate are expected to swiftly reject the bill, however, continuing a legacy of partisan sparring over the District of Columbia that has been going on for more than two centuries. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection early on Tuesday after decades of sexual abuse claims within one of the country's largest youth organizations. The move filed in Delaware bankruptcy court halts the hundreds of lawsuits the BSA is facing that allege sexual misconduct by people within the 110-year-old organization over the years. Sexual abuse settlements had reportedly strained the Boy Scouts' finances, with states passing laws last year so victims from long-ago abuse can sue for damages.
