The tiresome, hypocritical
politics of the Oscars

The year the Oscars had its highest viewership, Titanic won best picture. That was 1998, when the broadcast drew in 55.25 million viewers. “A billion people tuning in to see,” Billy Crystal sang in his opening monologue. A small fraction of a billion, perhaps, but the claim wasn’t as ludicrous then as it would be now.
The Oscars had its worst year ever in 2018, with a measly viewership of 26.5 million. The following year’s host-less Oscars saw a slight bump to 29.6 million — though it’s still a far cry from years past. Host-less again, the Oscars might expect to see a similar bump in numbers this year.

Who wants to have a bunch of high school drop-out former table waiters lecture them on politics and life in general?

And they haven’t produced decent movies since about the same time SNL stopped being funny. Decades of elitist social engineering garbage.

Have not watched the boring, self centered, piece of cr-p in 20 years. Will never again. It appears that people who have acting talent tend to be short on brain cells.

1917 deserves to be a huge winner. Picture, acting, screenplay, cinematography, musical score, etc.
But it’s a story about a bunch of white men, soooooo.....probably not.

I think that the last time I watched the Oscars was in the late 80’s. And the last American made movie that I saw in a theater was American Sniper. Now, if they had James Woods hosting, I might watch again. That would be delicious!

I think the posers will be especially sanctimonious and abrasive this year, they've had a very bad few weeks lately.

Hollywood's trash culture and casting couch politics have ruined the Oscars, as well as all the other awards for ''celebrities.'' I put that term in quotation marks because I don't think much of what the term means these days.

I’m mainly amused by Hollywood. They constantly insult and deride conservative Americans as corncob pipe smoking fools who could not possibly understand their superior intellect but they still expect us to pay money to see the garbage they produce. This is not a sustainable business model but no matter. They still have each other and award shows.

They give each other awards for work that they are highly paid to do. A gracious thank you not being enough, they feel it is their duty and right to lecture the little people on moral failures.

Who are the 29 million who waste their time with this. All leftist throwbacks no doubt. Now then...if Clint Eastwood were to be asked to host the Oscars and warm up the crowd with his empty chair skit, THAT would get me to watch.

I used to love the movies. So many good films from the golden years and film noir. Not anymore! I can't remember when I when the last time I paid to see a movie. The Oscars have become a farce. Surely, especially this year. Will movie theaters soon be going the way of shopping malls?

I might tune in if I were guaranteed to hear Gwyneth Paltrow rant about hatred for Donald Trump and sell her new personal product, scented candles that smell like her private parts. Just kidding the last time I might have viewed the Oscars was when my parents put it on in the 1950s when the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne and Kirk Douglas were in the audience.
Today a computer generated actor might win best actor because that's all it is now.

The Oscars has been turned into a leftist political rally. Rich and famous, but all publicly express their discontent and hatred for the country and system that made them that way. Then they say they are about the poor and the little guy, but they haven't spent any of their money on the poor or the little guy.

And of course they'll lecture about gun control and banning all weapons. Then they'll go back to making more stupid movies with a thousand gunfights in them and dozens getting killed. Dumbest people on the planet.

Only thing I watch anymore is the pre show Red Carpet. One of my girly weaknesses I guess. I just like admiring all the ensembles and the bling. Then I go find something else more interesting to watch on another channel.

How about having a "stats" board come up for each nominee when they are named, showing things like how many airplane trips taken in the last year, degrees of separation for either of "Steins", Ep- or Wein-, how many risque selfies they posted on any social media, speeches they given in support of the Alphabet groups, etc.?
Is so HARD keeping them all straight ... oh, there's another stat.
