Why Republicans Won’t Desert
Trump As They Did Nixon

Original Article

The Democrats are clearly frustrated by their failure to convince congressional Republicans that President Trump has committed any act approaching an impeachable offense. This was made plain when House managers Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) resorted to the bizarre and self-defeating tactic of insulting the integrity of the very Senators who will ultimately decide the President’s fate. The Democrats obviously believed their relentless attacks on all things Trump, combined with impeachment, would eventually cause Republicans to abandon him just as they did President Nixon in 1974. Instead, their three-year smear campaign has only strengthened the President’s support among Republicans in both houses of Congress. Why?

Considering the egregious violations perpetrated by those who came after him, we owe Richard Nixon an apology.

I think that many of us have become more loyal to Donald Trump than we are to the Republican party, and the Republicans know that. PDT has impressed us because of his "can do" approach toward moving things along. WINNING! We weren't used to that level of governmental efficiency, and have come to like it. Every Republican in Washington had better get on the Trump Train or be ostracized. PDT has earned our respect and support, and he has reentergized the Republican party.

FTA: "In the summer of 1974, very few voters would have known about the skulduggery described above. The Democrats were determined to bring Nixon down, a hostile corporate media enjoyed a monopoly on the “news,” and the GOP establishment consisted of swamp creatures willing to desert him." What claptrap. The UNIPARTY, aka The Swamp, is determined to bring down PDT in ways unthought of in 1974. Catron is willfully ignorant thinking the GOP establishment no longer consists of "swamp creatures willing to desert" PDT. The only thing that keeps Trump floating through this is his approval ratings, especially among Republican voters. If his numbers ever drop below 40 there will be "legit" primary challengers. As it is, understanding impeachment is a political and not legal process, no Republican is going to cross the aisle to vote "Guilty" in this farce. Had PDT's numbers dropped precipitously during or after the House took up writing articles, McConnell would have had his "Goldwater meeting". I suspect that hoping for that result one reason for the delay in delivering the Articles for trial, if there was ever intent to take this farce to that extent.

President Trump is inspiring Congress, just like he is inspiring the American people. He has shown that the establishment swamp can be challenged and fought against. Republicans in Congress have, for many years, felt like there was nothing they could do to fight the establishment. It was too powerful, with entrenched ''deep state'' and an opposing media. The democrats tossed them a bone when it was in their own interest, but never allowed the Republicans any real power for very long. It was only when the voters got riled up, as in 9/11, that democrats had to go along with President Bush. Well, the voters are riled up now, and congressional Republicans are riled up, and finding that they do have some power, due to our very vocal support!

Nixon committed a crime where President Trump has not. It appears that Republicans believe in the rule of law but Democrats don't! This impeachment circus has motivated me to donate money to the campaigns of candidates running against incumbent Democrats in both the House of Representative and Senate this November.

PARK CITY, Utah — Since losing the 2016 election to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton has released a memoir about that defeat, launched a political action committee and penned another book about “gutsy women” with her daughter, Chelsea. But Clinton’s most prominent return to the public eye has come at the Sundance Film Festival, where the former Secretary of State unveiled a candid four-hour documentary series, “Hillary.” Clinton is aware that some thought she would slink away after 2016. “Yes, they did, didn’t they?” Clinton said in an interview in Park City. “Well, that was never an option.” Nanette Burstein’s “Hillary,” which Hulu

We have seen this show before, it’s all designed to pressure a small number of weak Republican Senators to allow Democrats to turn the Senate into a circus in which the process becomes the punishment.t has been clear for weeks that the Democrats were seeking to ‘Kavanaugh’ the Senate impeachment trial — to roll out with media help a well-timed series of supposed bombshell accusations whose main purpose was to create a media hysteria to pressure Republican Senators to extend the process. The process for the nominee, or in the impeachment framework the president, becomes the punishment and the Democrat campaign strategy.

On Monday, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration's public charge rule to go into effect, striking down a nationwide injunction from a New York judge. The rule allows the government to deny green cards to immigrants who receive public assistance and are therefore considered a "public charge." In addition to the 5-4 decision allowing the rule to go into effect, Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch issued a concurring opinion rebuking activist judges and their rush to apply "nationwide injunctions" against Trump administration policies. "Today the Court (rightly) grants a stay, allowing the government to pursue (for now) its policy everywhere save Illinois.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Former Vice President Joe Biden never measures up to that standard. In 2014, Bob Gates, who served as President Obama’s first secretary of defense, said that Biden had been wrong on almost every foreign policy and national security issue for 40 years. Biden’s record hasn’t improved since then. Biden brags that Obama chose him for vice president because Obama didn’t have the foreign policy expertise that Biden had. The expertise Biden brags about includes voting against the 1991 Gulf War when we threw Saddam Hussein’s forces out of Kuwait and voting in favor of the 2003 Iraq invasion.

Joe Biden doesn’t sound very moderate when he says there is “no room for compromise” on “transgender equality.” It is the “civil rights issue of our time,” he tweeted last week, elevating it above women’s equality, racial equality, and even climate “justice,” an issue he once told us was an “existential threat.” The tweet was rather baffling, other than as an exercise in identity pandering. Maybe Biden thought he could win over a segment of the 0.3 percent transgender voters who are irate that Bernie Sanders accepted an endorsement from libertarian podcaster and pronoun purist Joe Rogan.

Democrats are really gonna do this, huh? I’m imagining Barack Obama looking at these new polling numbers and contemplating his legacy: A wipeout of Democrats in federal and state races by 2016, the election of a Republican president whom O himself allegedly describes as a “fascist,” and the increasing likelihood that his own party will choose an out-and-out socialist as its next nominee. In time, the Obama/Romney contest of 2012 may come to be seen as the last non-“European” election America had for many years. Rocket attacks on the Green Zone are very common. Last week three rockets were fired into Baghdad's Green Zone, the heavily fortified area of the capital that houses the embassy, government buildings and U.S. service members. No one can deny that the United States is facing a student debt crisis. With more than $1.6 trillion in outstanding student loan debt, tens of millions of Americans are forced to pay huge sums of money every month – this writer included – to private and government lenders, slowing down growth in other important areas of the economy, like the housing industry. As usual, Democrats’ plans to fix this important problem is to throw even more money at it and give greater power to the very same government agents and politicians that messed the system up in the first place.

The Trump administration is at it again. To hear New York Times reporter Coral Davenport tell it, this White House is engaged in yet another nihilistic assault on the environment. This week, the administration “finalized a rule to strip away environmental protections for streams, wetlands, and groundwater,” the Times notes. This new rule allowed the agency to block the development of privately owned lands with a “significant nexus” to a waterway, a definition so expansive it included streams that ran only seasonally or underground, bone-dry 100-year floodplains,

While better suited for a Robert Ludlum novel, it played out in real time over the past four years. There is a legal doctrine called the “fruit of the poisonous tree.” To summarize: A doctrine that extends the exclusionary rule to make evidence inadmissible in court if it was derived from evidence that was illegally obtained.
