It’s the biggest abdication since King Edward VIII — and once again, it’s all for the love of an American divorcee.
Prince Harry and his Los Angeles-born actress wife, Meghan Markle, on Saturday night were granted their wish to “step back” from royal duties.
They’ll be stepping back alright — way back, and with a deft shove from Her Majesty.
In a cordially worded heave-ho, the Queen announced that while Harry and Meghan “will always be much loved members of my family,” this will not be the gentle, gradual disentangling from Buckingham Palace that the pair hoped for when they dropped their bombshell on Instagram earlier this month.
No, this is a hard Megxit.

Most don’t think so. Minor royals in the overall scheme of things. Makes no difference.
What will they trade on now? What will they “sell” to support themselves?
The Queen is very clever. She has already begun to address them by their first names - just regular family members. They have to pay back the taxpayer monies used to renovate Frogmore Cottage to their liking. It will be their UK residence, but they will pay ongoing maintenance and operation and rent. No more taxpayer support. Charles may offer support as he chooses. No HRH anymore; no representation of the Queen. Harry is still 6th in line for the throne behind all of the Cambridge kids. Archie is 7th. Any businesses they engage in will have to meet the Queen’s values.
Meghan is reported to have her eye on a $27 million mansion in Canada.
The wise Queen has apparently built a review of the situation in one year into the deal.

In twenty years, they'll be the co-stars of the new "Movin' on Up" TV remake.

Has anyone ever noticed that Megan has never been proud of her blackness. Her high school friends were all white. The boys she dated and shacked up with and married were all white. Harry is white. The only blacks she likes are rich and famous. She is a first class hypocrite.

The Palace has to be careful with these two. They could turn into another Princess Diana situation and bring embarrassment to the Royal Family. I get the impression that Mehgan wants to go her way and is dragging Harry along with her. She wants to live a Michelle Obama lifestyle and that takes buckets of money.

Harry's departure is not the disaster the Duke of Windsor's was. The royals are probably happy to see the last of Meghan and her yoga-coach mother. Harry is only sixth in the succession and is unlikely to ever rise above fifth. He can probably rejoin the royals when he comes out of his love coma, realizes that earning a living is harder than spending a fortune, and tires of Meghan's vulgar celebrity friends. Whether he's too proud to admit he chose poorly remains to be seen.

Are they putting those two on the same plane as a king? That dude is 6th in line to the throne and has a cat's chance in hell to be king

At a time when Harry's judgment is being disparaged, I am mindful of the fact that he served 10 years in the military, some in active war zones. Whatever else goes on in his life, I've always admired him for that.

I predict that Douchess Markle will run her mouth in the most embarrassing way possible at the most inopportune times.

Does the media know how ignorantly stupid this is? Harry did not abdicate, he cannot since he will never be king. The British public has been clamoring for the royals to get jobs, and now that Harry and Meghan want to pursue their philanthropic ventures, they are beside themselves. Can't have it both ways folks. I wis hthem all the best as they try and get out into the real world. I think Diana would be proud of her son for wanting to make a live outside of the palace restrictions.

They're the only ones since Herr Edward VIII, the Nazi collaborator, to abdicate, but since Harry was 6th in line, it's sort of a stretch to call it abdication, more like deciding he doesn't want to wash the Royal dishes in far off countries.

Had Edward VIII not abdicated, the UK would have had a Nazi sympathizer for a monarch.

Harry and Meghan are well aware that you can make a fortune in the USA just by being a celebrity. In other words they'll now be treated like royalty without any of the responsibilities. The writing is on the wall. If the Queen turns over the reigns to Prince Charles, the monarchy will end soon after. After all, London ought to be under a Caliphate soon.
