On Christmas Day, South Bend, Indiana, Mayor and 2020 Democrat Pete Buttigieg declared Jesus Christ an impoverished “refugee” without ever explicitly mentioning his name.In a Twitter message, Buttigieg wrote: Today I join millions around the world in celebrating the arrival of divinity on earth, who came into this world not in riches but in poverty, not as a citizen but as a refugee. No matter where or how we celebrate, merry Christmas. [Emphasis added] (Tweet)

If you're going to spout off on the virtues of you being a 'Christian' having greater vision than the rest of us, then you might want to have read the Gospels first.

That Joseph and Mary were poor is evidenced by the sacrifice they brought to the temple at Jesus' dedication, two doves or two pigeons, according to Luke 2. Levitical Law concerning sacrifices stipulated that a lamb was to be sacrificed at this occasion. In the case of extreme poverty, two turtledoves or two pigeons were allowed (Leviticus 14). This ensured that even the poorest Jews were able to keep the Law. God did not exclude anyone from obedience to these laws.
The Magi did not visit Jesus until he was a toddler, and by that time Joseph and Mary were living in a house (again, this is in the text of Luke). The precious and expensive gifts came just in time to finance their trip into Egypt (this is often how God works). The Magi were warned by God in a dream to not return to Herod. Joseph was warned in a dream to take his wife and the toddler to Egypt after the visit by the Magi.
However, the most important issue for Mr. Buttgieg is this question: "Who do you say that I am?" And this is the most important question for each of us as well. All these other distractions are just that, distractions, and only serve to hijack the real issue for a political agenda. Mr. Buttigieg does not appear to be a serious student of the Scriptures.

The whole "Jesus as refugee" to be compared to illegal aliens is nonsense. Its spouted by people who barely know the Gospel. They think because there was no room for him, they were refugees that no on wanted. The Romans wanted them all right. Punishable by death. So severe were the Romans that everyone came back to their home towns per decree. And guess what, those who came late to a crowded place couldnt find accommodations. It doesnt make them refugees

Not sure if Buttplug knows this, but Jesus Christ is the Lord of Israel, and as the Apostle John attests to in John 1:1 - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
Then ties it all together in John 1:14 - And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
So, if the Lord gave the Law to Moses, and the Law contains the prohibition on the degenerate sex act of homosexuality, among others, which are punishable by DEATH, then how does Pete get off lecturing us about the Book that condemns his actions to physical death? The effrontery of his "sermons in the mount" sicken my sensibilities. People who do such things usually tend to reach a point of total disdain for the Scripture because it does not bend to their predilections and will ultimately attack it and anyone else who hold viewpoints other than their own.

Jesus was not a “refugee” as he traveled from one place to another with his parents so that they could comply with the census law of the time, and was not fleeing from the law or any entities or individuals.

Jesus was born in his own country ~ Israel, which had been overrun by illegal aliens for about 300 years.
At the same time he was born subject to Roman law, and in a territory acquired by Rome, which had bent a little and tolerated a local "king".... these things are called semi-autonomous territories in our own time.
He was far from being a refugee!

He obviously hasn't read the parts of Scripture that spell out penalties for false teachers. Very scary.

Not only were Mary and Joseph not refugees - they were following Roman law to be counted in the census so that the Romans could force them to PAY TAXES. Sorry for the shouting, but it needs to be shouted.
“And word went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.” Luke 2:1
