Former United Auto Workers President Gary Jones reportedly dropped $13,000 in union funds at an Arizona cigar shop in a single day, according to a federal complaint. The complaint, filed in September against another union leader, mentions that an official purchased a dozen $268 boxes of Ashton Double Magnum cigars and a dozen boxes of Ashton Monarchs, costing about $275 each. In return, the official, reported to be Jones, was sent a thank you note from the Arizona cigar shop. The pricey purchases were part of $60,000 Jones and other UAW officials allegedly spent on cigars between 2014 and 2018, according to a federal

Sounds like the Federal government at the end of its fiscal year...except that's much more than a puny $1 million and happens every year.

I think many folks on the right are often less than supportive on unions because of this sort of thing. If the dues went for workers and actual collective bargaining that didn't benefit mostly the union administrators, the support for unions among conservatives would be stronger. Ditto expenditures on K through 12 education. It seems like administrators (and not the secretarial types) get way too much and there are too many of them.

This is a lot more fun (and profitable) than having the yearly union leaders meetings in Podunk, Nebraska. Union thugs..er...leaders have been crooked for many decades. You watch, nothing will happen to these crooks, hell, they'll probably get reelected to their phony-baloney jobs.

Other people's money. This is what you get folks. Social justice, leftism, neo Marxism, liberalism, culture of death, and spirit of anti-Christ can really build a brave new world.

If a trophy was given out yearly like the Heisman trophy for college football Gary Jones would get the 2019 Jimmy Hoffa award for this bold stroke. Light'um up if you got'um and smoke to this one. No wonder Detroit is in shambles and a ghost town.

As an arbitrator, I tried cases with a variety of unions over a 30 plus year career, and this saddens me.
The UAW, historically, has been a relatively clean operation. This stuff belies that reputation.

Gary Jones' lawyer has a very apt last name....Maffeo Must be Italian for Mafia. I'd bet these are all democrats too, since that's where there donations go and dems have no value system.

The UAW has been a bunch of criminals and thugs ever since it was founded in the 1930's by the Reuther brothers. Walter Reuther included a bunch of Communists as original members; they knew how to riot, and get the press on their side. I haven't owned a vehicle made in Detroit with union labor in about 20 years, and I'll never buy another one. They're junk.

Had to belong to the union in the major company where I started as a discharged military type back in the late 50's...was on two strikes and supposed to get help from the union but NEVER did.... I was never so happy as the day I got promoted to management and could kiss the union goodbye...

One of the main reasons that unions were formed in the first place was for safe workplaces. Since workers comp, OSHA and every state's version of OSHA, (not eo menitone no other purpose than to promote striking for higher wages. Oddly enough , this always results in an increase in the union dues....
