Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Tuesday said Senate Republicans may have to come together to pass a partisan set of rules for an impeachment trial if he cannot strike a deal with Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
If the two fail to come to an agreement on a set of parameters for the impeachment trial, McConnell is likely to go to the Republican caucus to see who would vote alongside him, The Hill reported.
"It would depend on what we could agree to,” McConnell said in reference to a bipartisan deal. “That failing, I would probably come back to my own members and say,

Rule 1: If the articles of impeachment have no supporting evidence, dismiss the entire charade.

If McConnell can't get 51 Republicans to agree that this Impeachment scam should be dumped in the trash, those Republicans who won't go along with it should be Primaried. We need those who usually like to be a "No" vote on some moral issue or whatever to step up and do something for our country instead of grandstanding. That means you, Romney, Collins and Murkowski!

If this is only about Ukraine I cannot see how you have a full day as "hearsay" evidence is inadmissable and that was ALL the testimony presented...

So, in short, he wants the Dimms to agree with him about the rules in the Senate. Meanwhile, in the House, the majority said to the minority, "Screw you! We're going to do what we want."
THIS is why I believe Trump will be railroaded out of office!

Before panicking I would give some credit to McConnell. A trial run by Senate rules during an election year is political gold. Chances that Chuckie would agree are nil.

How about this? The house impeaches him, the Senate removes him, and then we re-elect him in November.
I would enjoy very much telling the House, the Senate, and the American media that we decide who gets to be president, not them.

#6: One more time: Someone who has been impeached and removed from office cannot hold office again.
Article 1, Section 3, Clause 7 of the Constitution: Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States. . . .
No, this needs to be stopped before we get to this point!

Alcee L. Hastings, former Federal Judge, impeached in 1988. Removed from office 1989. N0w he is the House representative for FL 20th district. I agree the House is not an "Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States" but the Presidency probably is.

If this whole thing is about what they told us it was about, there is a transcript that even the accuser agrees is accurate, then the president is being impeached for doing his job. Not just what he can legally do, but by statute what he must do. If anything I think he could be held accountable for not explicitly stopping aid until corruption was investigated. I'm sorry but just because you are a political opponent you don't get immunity. The law doesn't say we don't give aid to corrupt countries unless that corruption involved political opponents of the POTUS.
The fact that our representatives are choosing to go to "work" everyday to participate in this scandalous charade instead of advancing the interests of our country is absurd. They are following a Monty Python script not the constitution.
They are begging to be greeted by an angry mob on the capitol steps.

Repubs never cease to disappoint me.Why is McConnell even trying to work with Schumer. Cooperation with Dems mean doing what Dems want100% . The repubs really need a leader in the senate who understands the Dems want to control America”Communism” and refuse to go along with any dem.

Schumer wants to control the Impeachment trial in the Senate the way Pelosi/Nadler/Schiff have done so in the House. A Kangaroo Court with pre-set conclusions to strip We the People of our choices.
If McConnell caves at all, it could be disastrous.
Meanwhile, that Schmucky Schumer is trying to sell him the idea that a trial controled by Republicans will be ill-percieved by the American People. In the DC Echo-Chamber, I'm sure this is the only conclusion they are permitting to be heard..

Mitch McConnell. this is not an impeachment inquiry. Its a coup. There is no evidence, but the left continues with the inquiry anyway. Do whatever it takes to shut this monstrosity down. The critics will scream, but they are already screaming. Its time to take sides. Are you with the President or against the President? The people are watching.

Just Say No. McConnell's career depends on him not giving an inch to the dirty democrats. Any attempt at impeachment by either party will result in the American People restoring Donald Trump to power and we may decide on a third term as well if we are angry enough. You flea-bitten mongrels in Washington serve US, not the other way around.

How can McConnell keep this charade going? Did the Schiff impeachment “report” come up with anything impeachable, no evidence? If not, this is DOA. Even the rumorblower backed out. McConnell and the Senate should as well.

If nothing else Mitch knows how to use Senate rules to his advantage. Was kinda hoping a Supreme Court vacancy was going on at the same time. Dems would explode!

#7, we're on the same side. I want it stopped too. I was being glib. And I do see your point. (You've probably corrected me on this before.) To be honest, though, I'm not as clear exactly what that paragraph means.
It may be true that an impeached president, once removed, is automatically disqualified from ever serving in public office again. However, there are opinions to the contrary, and the Senate procedure appears to vote separately on removal and disqualification. In other words, it might be possible to remove a president from office of the presidency without disqualifying him or her from serving again.
All just thought experiments, and I recognize that I've probably wasted enough of everyone's time already on what was intended to be a silly joke.
In other words, I agree with you. Let's not find out.
