Washington Awaits John Durham

Last week toward the end of the week there appeared in our finest newspapers — the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal — a spate of news stories that set official Washington’s mind at ease. As one of the great gazettes put it, “The Justice Department’s internal watchdog [that would be Inspector General Michael Horowitz] is expected to find in a forthcoming report that political bias did not taint top officials running the FBI investigation into possible coordination between Russian and the Trump campaign in 2016.” Nonetheless, the report will be criticizing “the bureau for systematic failures in its handling of surveillance applications,

Horowitz is a Buffoon! How anyone can describe him as anything less is a mystery to me! He is doing his primary function of covering-up exceptionally well, however! Had he been serious about finding and rooting out corruption, his report would have been submitted a year ago. His focus had to have been to keep the heat on Trump as long as humanly possible and to Hell with the Country!

The Democrats targeted the Trump campaign and have been trying to overthrow his presidency for 3 years. Horowitz don't think there is an bias there? Really? If Horowitz has found no bias, then Horowitz looked the other way, just like Mueller never investigated Russian intervention, because Mueller knew at the start there wasn't any. Any no bias cover-up by Horowitz will completely delegitimize his report. Frankly, Horowitz has not done his job. He has sat on this report for 3 months for certain, and has let the country swing in the wind, all for procedures, and bureaucratic sensibilities. The country doesn't matter to Mr. Horowitz, procedures and cya, the people have no power or influence over bureaucrats, who can't be fired, demoted, discriminated against, or asked to do their jobs.

If it's true Horowitz found no political bias, then he's as corrupt as the rest of the demonrats.

Contrary to popular belief, the former White House counsel has been ordered to show up, not to testify — and even that is being appealed. You might assume that the girth of the nearly 120-page opinion Judge Ketjani Brown Jackson issued Monday means that an issue of great consequence to the House impeachment inquiry has been decided. But you’d be wrong. And you’d be further misled if you put much stock in the headlines breathlessly announcing that the federal district court in Washington, D.C., has ordered that former White House counsel Don McGahn “must testify to Congress.”

It is an important distinction because people equate history with mastering historical trivia. A friend informs me of a young lady from his hometown and home church. Valedictorian of her classical Christian high school, she was a solid evangelical raised in an evangelical home, an evangelical church, and by evangelical parents. “Guess what she did for break?,” my friend asks me. “She headed to Iowa to volunteer for Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign.” Why anyone would think that Pete Buttigieg is qualified to be president is a mystery. An even greater mystery would be why a conservative evangelical girl would spend her college break knocking on doors for a cultural radical to be president of the United States. Actually, it’s no mystery.

While this is an extremely distasteful subject for most of us, it needs to be called out when it surfaces, unfortunately. And it happens far too often. A resident of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, on the outskirts of Philadelphia, has been exposed and indicted in a long series of incidents of stolen valor. Richard Meleski had spent years falsely claiming to have been a Navy SEAL, a prisoner of war and the recipient of high military honors. He had somehow received significant benefits from the VA owing to his “service.” But none of it was true. (CBS Philadelphia)

Duke, the No. 1 college basketball team in the country, was stunned Tuesday by Stephen F. Austin, losing in dramatic fashion in overtime. But the biggest shocker has been the spike in funds raised for the family of the player who hit the game-winning layup. A two-month-old GoFundMe page set up to help Nathan Bain’s family in the Bahamas rebuild from Hurricane Dorian damage had raised more than $97,000 and counting just before 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, a huge spike from the roughly $2,000 it had raised over several weeks before Tuesday night’s game, The Associated Press reported. Hong Kongers just had their best day in a long time. In the process, they offered the bad boys of Beijing an off-ramp from the chaotic protests that have blackened China’s global reputation since March. Normally, Hong Kong district council elections are about as interesting as a new Coldplay album. But Monday’s turnout broke all records. That’s because they weren’t seen as just normal, local political contests. Rather, the people of Hong Kong saw them as a chance to show the world how they felt about the larger contest going on between China and the island’s pro-democracy activists. And show the world, they did.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is immediately sending experts in response to a request from the Samoan government for assistance with a measles outbreak that has sickened 2,437 people and killed 32, mostly children, U.S. officials said Tuesday. The CDC is providing technical assistance with tracking and monitoring of cases and vaccination campaigns, according to Robert Linkins, a CDC expert on global immunization. Two CDC experts are expected to be on the ground shortly, U.S. officials said. Vaccination rates in Samoa are among the lowest in the world, and the country has been the target of anti-vaccine activists. The measles outbreak was declared

Right up through the end of Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-Calif.) impeachment hearings, the media were impeachment’s most enthusiastic supporters. While they’ve been convinced of the need to impeach President Donald Trump for several years now, the hearings convinced them even more of the urgent need to do so. The media weren’t entirely clear on exactly what grounds he should be impeached, a problem shared by Schiff and his team, but that didn’t dint their enthusiasm one bit. Instead of making the case that Trump had committed some sort of high crime or misdemeanor meriting immediate removal, they instead just asserted that an unspecified crime had occurred

The Drudge Report is still the king of conservative aggregator websites, but its rivals are gaining ground. Five right-tilting upstarts — Whatfinger News, Liberty Daily, Rantingly, NewsAmmo and Gab Trends — increased their average monthly traffic and engagement, as measured by average visit duration and average pages per visit, from September-October 2018 to 2019, according to SimilarWeb, which shared its data with The Washington Times. At the same time, the marketing-intelligence company found traffic to the Drudge Report during that period declined by 15%. From July to October, Drudge dropped from 96 million total visits to 77 million, prompting recent headlines such as True Pundit’s “Drudge Bleeds Out as Conservatives Flee.”

Anthony Weiner changed the course of American history when he tweeted out a picture of his dick on May 27, 2011. This is not an exaggeration. There is a direct line between Anthony Weiner’s penis and the rise of far-right media, the current state of the country’s biggest city, and the election of Donald Trump. Anthony Weiner is omnipresent over the last 10 years: It is inevitable that if there is a major political moment, Weiner is somewhere on its edges. On July 25, 2019, President Donald Trump picked up the phone in the White House residence and attempted to shake down a foreign leader. Trump’s language was elliptical and soft, not direct and threatening, but his intentions were clear: He wanted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to “do us a favor.” That was Trump’s entree to his improper, indecent requests that Zelenskiy’s government undertake two investigations that would benefit Trump politically. Trump didn’t explain his motives, which of course were self-serving. First, he asked Zelenskiy to “find out what happened” with Ukraine’s supposed meddling, alongside Russia, in the 2016 U.S. election. Then there was Trump’s “other thing”: his desire that Ukraine “look into”
