California Supreme Court knocks
down Trump tax requirement for
primary run

California lawmakers’ attempt to require President Trump to release his tax returns in order to run in next year’s primary came to an abrupt end Thursday when the state Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the legislation, sponsored by Democrats, violated a state constitutional requirement to include all “recognized” presidential candidates on the primary ballot. The state law, the first of its kind in the nation, “is in conflict with the Constitution’s specification of an inclusive open presidential primary ballot,” said Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye. The ruling came just 15 days after the court heard arguments in the case.

Rare. A fascist Supremem Court actually following a state constitution. Rare case of rule of law being the rule of law.

That was a law that the Democrats passed in California to politically harass President Trump. That does not seem Constitutional at all! The court ruled correctly in this matter, but with the current double standard used by liberal Democrat judges these days when it comes to politically charged cases, you never know how the judges will rule.

Perhaps the judges have just a teensy bit more foresight than today's rabid Democrats. There is a presidential election every 4 years. CA's law could end up hampering a future Dem candidate, And other states could start enacting requirements detrimental to a Dem candidate if the idea caught on.

Wow the courts got it right. I think Trump has fixed the courts too. Thank you Mr President. I feel we are in a sane world at this moment. When the left has lost it's collective minds.

Attorney General William Barr is trying to deport some legal immigrants who were convicted of crimes many years ago. Gov. Gavin Newsom is trying to spare some of the same immigrants from deportation by pardoning them. It’s shaping up as another round in the Trump administration vs. California. The immigrants are legal U.S. residents who, because they have not become citizens, face potential deportation for past crimes that were punishable by sentences of a year or more. Barr, overturning long-standing decisions by immigration courts, declared last month that migrants convicted of long-ago crimes could be deported even when their home states had retroactively reduced or erased their sentences.

Remember that time you got pulled over for going 55 in a 30 with an expired registration? And remember how the cop wrote you two tickets? Do you remember thinking, “well, I shouldn’t have been speeding and I should have renewed my registration? But if I am being honest, I am really in the situation because that cop had the nerve to pull me over and hold me responsible for my choices.” Pretty sound logic, huh? But that is the logic being used by the family of a 23-year old Ohio man, who was shot and killed while trying to rob a Dollar General store at gun point.

Undocumented immigrants and other non-citizens will be allowed to serve on state boards and commissions after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a package of bills Saturday intended to integrate immigrants further into society. SB225 by Sen. Maria Elena Durazo, D-Los Angeles, expands eligibility for state appointments to any California resident over the age of 18. In a signing message, Newsom said applicants deserved to be considered on their merits, rather than their immigration status.

A manager for a prominent private security firm that provides bodyguards to Silicon Valley executives received a concealed-gun permit from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office months after he made a $45,000 contribution to an independent committee supporting Sheriff Laurie Smith’s 2018 re-election, newly disclosed records show. The campaign contribution is one focus of an investigation by the Santa Clara County district attorney’s office into whether the sheriff gave out the coveted gun permits in exchange for campaign support, sources familiar with the probe have told The Chronicle.  Byline corrected to site style.

Just days after declaring the United States was “locked and loaded” in response to a suspected Iranian attack on key Saudi Arabian oil facilities, U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that he directed the Treasury Department to “substantially increase” sanctions on Iran. That raises several questions: What is left to sanction? How much more could it hurt Iran than losing almost all of its oil exports? And would those new sanctions be a prelude to U.S. military action against Iran or its proxies—or a substitute?

The National Rifle Association on Monday sued the city of San Francisco over a declaration deeming the lobbying group a “domestic terrorist organization,” according to The Associated Press. The city Board of Supervisors passed the resolution last week, with Supervisor Catherine Stefani saying she was moved to draft it following August’s shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival. In the lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of California, the NRA accused the city of maintaining a blacklist, asking the court to “instruct elected officials that freedom of speech means you cannot silence or punish those with whom you disagree.”

The European Union has extended for a further five years anti-dumping duties on Chinese bicycles, the bloc said in its official journal on Thursday, after concluding that any lifting of measures would lead to a flood of imports. Imported Chinese bicycles have been subject to anti-dumping duties since 1993, currently with an import tariff of up to 48.5%. The extended duties are the latest in a series of EU measures against Chinese exports ranging from solar panels to steel, which have sparked strong words from Beijing. The European Union also decided in January to impose duties of up to 79.3% on imports of Chinese electronic bicycles.

Three San Diego residents filed a federal lawsuit today challenging California’s assault weapon ban, with the plaintiffs alleging that the state is violating its residents’ Second Amendment rights by its allegedly misguided definition of assault weapons. The suit, filed on behalf of James Miller, Patrick Russ and Ryan Peterson, as well as the San Diego County Gun Owners Political Action Committee, alleges that the types of firearms banned under California’s definition of assault weapons are lawfully protected under the Second Amendment. The suit calls California’s usage of the term “assault weapons,” “a politically-concocted pejorative term designed to suggest that there is an inherently unlawful or illegitimate basis for owning otherwise common firearms

The Democratic establishment despises the insurgent candidacy of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii. From her decision to buck party orthodoxy and endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders in 2016 over Democratic National Committee favorite Hillary Clinton, to her constant criticisms of Democratic foreign policy mistakes, Gabbard has made herself no friends with the party elite. She's perfectly fine with that if it's required to put the people first. Still, this means establishment Democrats and their allies regularly smear and attack the Democratic congresswoman. On Tuesday, November 19th, CNN anchor Don Lemon made a mind-boggling statement. He said, of the ongoing impeachment hearings, “I think on this one, the Republicans are on the wrong side of history, and they are the most hypocritical. I’m not a partisan. I know people think that I’m some liberal Democrat. I’m not.” He went on to say, “I don’t think the Republicans are serving themselves well.” Talk about hypocrisy! If Lemon isn’t “partisan,” neither were Hitler or Stalin. Lemon is to hypocrisy as Macy’s is to Thanksgiving Day parades. And it is the Democrats who are demonstrably damaging themselves with this carefully—if bizarrely-- orchestrated farce.
