Trump Hasn’t Yet Fulfilled
His “Law and Order” Vow

At National Review, the erstwhile flagship of American conservatism, Jim Geraghty puts out a bulletin called “The Morning Jolt.” On the morning after Tuesday’s off-year elections, the “Jolt” was mostly negative for conservatives. Geraghty noted a few successes: winning the Mississippi governor’s race, improving the Republican Party’s position in the New Jersey legislature, narrowly rejecting racial preferences in Washington state, guarding against any future state income tax in Texas. But he lamented disappointments elsewhere, saying they show “how the GOP traded working-class whites for suburbanites in 2016 and continues to live with the consequences of that trade.” This brings out the Grammar Nazi in me. The GOP didn’t trade “working-class whites

Because President Trump cannot write laws. Those must come from Congress. And every program President Trump tries to implement is reversed by some local bumpkin judge and somehow gets applied to the entire United States.

When you finally get to the end of this article, you find out that the author's grievance is that President Trump hasn't proposed a constitutional amendment to enforce the death penalty more -- an amendment about which the author provides no specifics. The author apparently thinks that constitutional amendments solve problems, and that expending the president's valuable time and limited political capital fighting through the intentionally difficult process to amend our constitution is a good idea. The real headline here is that crime has been decreasing since President Trump was elected. I suspect this is due in part to controlling the borders better. There are many practical things that can be done to reduce crime. Yet another constitutional amendment is not one of them. Crime is driven by depraved people growing up in broken families. Even President Trump can't fix that anytime soon.

Is this what a Never-Trumper looks like when he tries to find distance between himself and the NRO group? Gee. Don't remind him that Jesus hasn't had God's will being done on earth as it is in heaven, yet, either.

Leading Democrats Call for
Conditioning Military Aid to Israel

Three leading Democratic presidential candidates recently endorsed a new policy regarding U.S. military aid to Israel: It should be conditioned on Israel embracing policies toward the Palestinians favored by American progressives. At the J Street conference last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) demanded that Israel "fundamentally change" its approach to terrorist-controlled Gaza, adding, "I think it is fair to say that some [U.S. military aid to Israel] should go right now into humanitarian aid in Gaza." Israeli officials believe such moves would enable Hamas to import more weapons and lead to another war. South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg called for cutting aid if Israel annexes the West Bank,

In the aftermath of a recent Florida self-defense shooting, female gun owners argued that the AR-15 provides specific advantages to women for home defense, vehemently rejecting the views of gun-control activists who insist the firearm is unnecessary. Speaking with the Washington Free Beacon on Friday, five female firearm owners and advocates said the AR-15 platform offers several features that are ideal for women specifically. Robyn M. Sandoval, executive director of A Girl & A Gun Women's Shooting League, said the rifle is both more effective and safer for female shooters.

Oxford professor Nicola Gardini urges people to read and study Latin. He believes that Latin is the antidote for the modern age, which seems transfixed by the spontaneous, the easy, and the ephemeral. His new book, Long Live Latin: The Pleasures of a Useless Language, argues that Latin combines truth and beauty with the timelessness of art. People should study Latin for all the reasons people should read literature. In his Confessions, St. Augustine (354–430 C.E.) “placed the learning of Latin under God’s purview,” Gardini writes. Augustine believed Latin drew a child closer to God, “the truest truth.” Gardini argues that Latin contains the logic and precision of math

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff rejected the GOP’s request that the panel summon Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, to testify at public impeachment hearings next week. The California Democrat also signaled he will not agree to some of the other witnesses Republicans requested Saturday, including Alexandra Chalupa, a former Democratic National Committee staffer who Republicans said worked with the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, D.C., “to try to get political dirt on then-candidate Trump’s campaign.”

If Adam Schiff were a prosecutor, his November 5 contribution to USA Today would violate rule 3.8(f) when he claimed (again) that he had secret evidence of a secret crime committed by the president. Our system of due process (as codified by this rule) recognizes that it’s unfair for an accuser to use newspapers to claim access to secret evidence of a target’s criminal conduct. This isn’t something that was allowed to happen in past impeachment efforts and Americans should be skeptical of Schiff’s case when he’s not giving the president’s team equal access to the evidence of the supposed “crime.”

What do you suppose the Alliance for American Advertising has in common with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, the American Society of Civil Engineers, or American Apparel and Footwear? Apart from beginning with the letter “A,” they are among the nearly 3,500 trades or firms that have dedicated lobbying operations in Washington, D.C. And that doesn’t count the union headquarters located in D.C., from AFSCME (“We make America Happen”) to SEIU (“the nation’s most diverse union”) and beyond, they’re all there, hands out, telephones working overtime to get a little bigger slice of the government pie, made with 100 percent locally sourced materials, namely your tax dollars.

Representative Adam B. Schiff’s (D-Calif.) impeachment inquiry is a real danger to every Democrat associated with it. Less than two years ago, Schiff’s libertine idea of truth showed itself. Jay Whig called him out then for misrepresenting the nature and purposes of the independence of the FBI. Schiff went on to claim that, as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, he had seen evidence that Trump had colluded with the Russians, with the implication that the Mueller report would expose this. Schiff was caught in this lie, spectacularly, when Special Counsel Robert Mueller revealed precisely the opposite of what Schiff had said he knew for a fact. There was never

Though The View has been on television since 1997 and its numerous hosts have come and gone, it is a mystery as to who watches it. In its formative years, it may have been watchable, even occasionally newsworthy; Barbra Walters was an actual journalist. Now, from the clips that are picked up and aired by other news outlets, it has clearly devolved into a slugfest -- vicious, leftist women attack their guests if remotely conservative. There is zero respect for any guest with a politically incorrect opinion. They slobbered over Chelsea Clinton as if she were the Queen of England and attacked Donald Trump Jr.

As I’ve noted before, I didn’t vote for Donald Trump in the 2016 GOP primary. However, I eagerly voted for him over Hillary Clinton (and everyone else on the ballot) in the 2016 general election. I almost certainly will do so again in 2020. President Trump has been a very pleasant surprise as President of the United States. He has a long list of excellent accomplishments that have made me even more eager to vote for him in 2020. Not the least of these accomplishments is President Trump’s fulfilling his promise to remake the federal judiciary by appointing -- and having confirmed -- conservative judges and justices.
