Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she admired how fellow first lady Eleanor Roosevelt stuck by President Franklin D. Roosevelt after he had an extramarital affair, and drew vague comparisons to her relationship with Bill Clinton, during an interview with CBS News.
Clinton was interviewed alongside her daughter Chelsea on "CBS Sunday Morning" this week, to promote "The Book of Gutsy Women."
"I think she was one of the greatest Americans in our history," Hillary Clinton said of Eleanor. She highlighted Eleanor's reaction to the affair in the book and discussed the personal parallels she saw between the two of them.

Ok, I’ll say it. That is a really stupid thing to admire.

And since she finds Eleanor so admirable for standing by her adulterous husband, we in turn should find her admirable for sticking with half-mast-pants Bill.

Eleanor was instrumental in getting Roosevelt to recognize Soviet Russia. She loved the communists, and forgave (?) her husband because she was too ugly to find another man who would have her. And who says his affair ever ended? Of course, the Dems admired her; they also admired her dog, and anything else they did. Blind loyalty that carries over even now.

Eleanor was a lesbian, hardly a secret, by the way, so I suppose FDR's affairs were a relief to her. That gave her a reason to go up the down staircase, and never to sleep with him thereafter.

There are so many similarities between Eleanor and Hillary. They both had girlfriends. Bill and FDR both had girlfriends too, because who can blame them. Just take a look at Eleanor and Hillary. FDR and Hillary are similar in that neither one knew when to quit running for president.
BTW Hillary...Glad to see you are out from your journey in the woods and are thinking of running for president...AGAIN

Both of them stuck around for the power and adulation. Sad to say, but many women who stick with cheating husbands have taken "Dear Abby's" advice to heart: "... is your life better with or without him?" For many women, that is an economic decision - can I support myself and the children, and provide for a retirement? If the answer is no, they stick and put up with the situation. For others like Hillary and Eleanor it is will I have the same power, influence and adulation if I leave? The answer is definitely no in both cases, so they stuck.

I don't admire any woman for sticking by a philandering husband. That is weakness.

I agree with #1.
I was never a fan of Eleanor. I thought her cousin Alice Roosevelt Longworth was far more interesting. Read Hissing Cousins- great read.

Roosevelt’s affair ended with his death. His enamorata was by his bedside when he died. Eleanor was not.
