It’s on track to be the trial of the century: President Donald Trump fighting to keep his job before a jury of 100 senators.
It also could never happen.

That’s because of a Constitution that designates the Senate with the “sole power to try” an impeachment that comes from the House. But nowhere in America’s founding document is the trial said to be a mandatory act. Sure, it would be an unprecedented move in U.S. history for Republican leader Mitch McConnell to table Trump impeachment proceedings without allowing any significant debate or a vote to convict a president from his own party,

Tip O'Neill was reluctant to move on impeachment unless it was bipartisan. McConnell could take the same position. Declaring before they even start that the Senate will not accept anything that has been passed on a 'largely partisan' (to be defined later) basis. IMO, it will not come to that. Their own polls will tell the 'Rats that this is politically suicidal. They will find a face saving way to get out.

There needs to be articles of impeachment. Some basis of wrongdoing. What we have seen from the beginning are investigations in search of crimes.

McConnell has done other things that were controversial (think Merritt Gardner), so I wouldn't be surprised if he ha a few tricks up his sleeve. By the time it gets to the Senate, it will probably be close to being in the middle of the Campaign for President. Maybe McConnell will say, "Lets table this until after the election, let the American People decide on Impeachment"! Sounds like a good idea to me!

I keep hearing that there is no chance that the Senate would vote to uphold a House vote to impeach.
Has anyone taken a head count of RINOS in the Senate lately? They seem to pop up from time to time to "stick it" to Trump. I wouldn't be surprised to see enough of them appear depending on which the wind is blowing.

First off, there won't be any impeachment. It's a threat used to undeline the "seriousness" of PDT's trangressions created from whole cloth, from rape to racism to now bribing/cajoling a foreign government to act against an American citizen. The public simply has no gut for impeachment.
Mitch wouldn't do jack if impeachment articles ever showed up in the Senate but call John Roberts to set the trial date. The political calculations would be done for him. This "DumpTrump" is a "bi-partisan" effort that involves the UNIPARTY, which includes Mitt and GOPe leadership as much as it does Pelosi, Schumer and the Dems. Trump is outside the cabal and exposing it to those who will see. He's proving America can be great if not robbed of its culture and prosperity by the rest of the world.
This is political Armageddon - vanquish Trump and the game is over, with another string of Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama presidents to play their corrupt parts. Stop looking at the red and blue jerseys.

It would be political suicide for the wimpy Republican Senators to vote to remove President Trump as it stands now. Outside the DC beltway, to Americans who have been paying attention this bogus impeachment attempt by the Democrats against Trump is all political. So Republican Senators who would vote to remove Trump would be lucky to even receive a few future votes from Trump supporters, who have the numbers to decide if a Republican Senator gets re-elected or not, or lose their seats through the Republican primary process.

If McConnell believed in Republican principles, he should just tell the House Dem fanatics that any BS impeachment action would never be brought up in the Senate.

The elephant in the room is Mitt Romney who believes he can step forward and run should Trump go down. Make no mistake about it, the articles of impeachment have already been drawn up against Mike Pence - simply for being a decent Christian. Gay Hollywood will throw temper tantrums falsely claiming that he supports therapy programs to reverse homosexuality. These people are evil and must be stopped. Republicans need to stand up for President Trump.

Speaking of Merrick Garland, here's my conspiracy theory of the week. I figure Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg is on verge of cashing in her chips and Trump will nominate Amy Coney Barrett who has like 9 kids, a couple adopted from Africa. I figure she's untouchable. Anyway, the Dims will try to obstruct and delay, and say that nobody should be confirmed with the specter of impeachment hanging over Trump's head.
