Mayor Pete Buttigieg believes that characters like James Bond are not “intrinsically white,” allowing Hollywood executives to switch up the race of any character.
“I think, whether we’re talking about James Bond or whether we’re talking about comic books, it makes sense for the portrayal of these characters to reflect the amazing cultural diversity of the country,” he said when asked about black actors playing characters that were previously played by white actors.
The South Bend mayor weighed in on pop culture on Friday in an interview with TMZ Live after the Democrat debate.
One of the TMZ hosts asked about the current proposal by Marvel Producer Kevin Feige, who floated the idea of

If a character is not who they are, then the character is not who they are. Every character has to find their audience. If you eliminate a popular character, and substitute another, then you may be successful and you may not. People putting up the money usually prefer the probability of success with an established character, rather than risking a new one. 24 was an action series with an established actor. The new 24 had an un-established, with no experience, and it was awful. Also, the new 24 began with "you so fine, baby", which used sex, because the new writers had no talent for writing a plot for 24. The new 24 flopped, and did so very fast. So Buttguy, it makes a huge difference when you change character. People don't want their Hershey bars changed, their cokes changed, or anything else they like changed. They like them the way they like them.

So, James Bond was a Scot and an officer in the British Navy. Just how many black, Scottish naval officers were there in the 1950s?

Pandering and virtue signaling on race has become so common that we hardly notice it. With 11% of he population being African American (Negro to use a word chosen by MLK) over 45% characters in commercials and TV series are black. Banks choose a prosperous looking black family to advertise Private Banking Services whereas in reality probably .1% of their clients qualify. Tech companies show a completely unrepresentative black teenager explaining the intricacies of the latest App. The Democrats on the stage are simply taking the cue.

I think Ian Flemming had the final say on this issue.

The character was created by Ian Fleming and now people think they can just change things to fit their twisted PC views. Too bad Mr. Fleming isn't around to present his view.

That would be the way to ruin the lucrative Bond franchise. The books and movies were popular because the character of Bond was popular...the deadly British spy with a license to kill. He was also white. Changing that will show the audience that political correctness rules and the fans will be disgusted as they should be.
If they do this then at least we won't have to suffer any more sequels. That will be the end of the Bond movies.

Poor Butt-gig, he doesn't know that Ian Fleming conceived his fictional 007 character back when England was 99.99% WHITE, Anglo-Saxon stock.

I guess its like Clinton...Depends on what the definition of sexual relations is. James Bond the character in the books was a white British secret agent, for the last fifty some years he has been a white British secret agent in every film. Making him a her or black or pink purple polka dotted, or say and American (anathema anathema). Is just plain ignorant and a pretty good way to kill off the franchise. This is postmodernism at is best and worst....what the words are don't mean anything, its what the reader chooses to understand the words to mean that matters.
