The president of Iceland included a colorful accessory choice for the occasion of his recent Reykjavik meeting with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, a rainbow bracelet. Guðni Jóhannesson and his wife, Eliza Reid, both wore the rainbow bands during the meeting, apparently as a show of support for LGBT individuals in light of criticism of Mr. Pence’s record on gay and transgender issues. The Indiana Republican, a devout Christian, has been criticized as anti-LGBT by detractors for his record in public office, especially a controversy from 2015 during Mr. Pence’s tenure as governor when a religious-liberty bill he supported was met

Comments:

A juvenile and disrespectful display hardly befitting the president of even a tiny nation.

Used to be that the rainbow was a symbol of beauty and God's promise. As of 40 years ago it was hijacked to represent perversion and hate.

What is it about so many gay people that they find it necessary to advertise their sexual proclivities? I would think that good taste requires one to keep silent about one’s bedroom habits. But I guess I am living in the past where people had decorum and breeding.

Back in the days of my misspent youth, I spent a lot of years working around the world on freighters of various Scandinavian flags. Quite a few of my shipmates were from Iceland (mostly, but not always under Danish registry), never once did I find them to be of the type to scoff, berate or belittle the personal views of another person. I might add that they were fierce fighters in a brawl and great drinking companions, especially with me, a "true blue" Aussie.

Brooklyn—A United Federation of Teachers director has been charged with attempting to coerce a minor into sex as part of a sting operation, according to a complaint filed in Brooklyn Federal Court Friday. According to a statement by Detective Damon Gergar, who was involved in the sting, 41-year-old Jason Seto contacted him via a dating app that Gergar says people "primarily use to meet up to have sexual contact." Gergar claims Seto sent him a picture of himself that included his face as well as a photo of his genitals. Gergar says that within 15 minutes of talking to Seto,

Washington—The White House is considering a plan that would keep most refugees who are fleeing war, persecution and famine out of the United States, significantly cutting back a decades-old program, according to current and former administration officials. One option that top officials are weighing would cut refugee admissions by half or more, to 10,000 to 15,000 people, but reserve most of those spots for people from a few countries or from groups with special status, such as Iraqis and Afghans who work alongside American troops, diplomats and intelligence operatives abroad. Another option, proposed by a top administration official, would reduce refugee

Boeing’s new widebody jet, the 777X, suffered a setback Thursday afternoon during a high-pressure stress test on the ground when one of the airplane’s doors exploded outward. One 777X employee working in a nearby bay at Boeing’s Everett plant said he heard “a loud boom and the ground shook.” The accident happened to what’s called the “static test airplane,” one of the two airplanes in any new jet program that are built for ground testing only and will never fly. It was during the final test that must be passed as part of the airplane’s certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

On Wednesday, Brown had a heated exchange with Raiders GM Mike Mayock where he unleashed a barrage of foul language and went as far as threatening to punch Mayock in the face. The exchange came because Mayock was unhappy that Brown had posted a part of a letter the GM sent him on social media. The letter had to do with the $54,000 the team fined him for a pair of unexcused absences from practice during training camp.

Donald Trump wants people to think he’s a winner. So why does he act like a loser? Winners convey a sense of effortless superiority. They don’t have to work at it. You just know they’re above it all. If someone tries to criticize them, it’s beneath their dignity to worry about it. It’s just a little speck they brush off their shoulder. The Brits are good at that, Boris Johnson especially. We still don’t know how things will turn out there, but I expect his aplomb will carry him through. “There are no disasters,” he once joked. “Only opportunities. And, indeed, opportunities for fresh disasters.”
