Phoenix—Construction on a Pentagon-funded portion of border fence began this week near Yuma, Arizona, just as federal officials revealed a list of Defense Department projects that will be cut to pay for President Donald Trump’s wall. The 30-foot (9-meter) steel fence will be built along the Colorado River in a section of border that had a big increase in migrant families earlier this year, but slowed to a trickle in recent weeks. The exact details of the project are unclear, but it appears it will consist of about 5 miles of fencing.(Snip) In New Mexico, crews are building barriers

The other day on the radio, there was a piece about how the critics were lamenting how funds are being taken away from other pentagon programs. So hypocritical of the left. They could care less about the military.

Washington—The White House is considering a plan that would keep most refugees who are fleeing war, persecution and famine out of the United States, significantly cutting back a decades-old program, according to current and former administration officials. One option that top officials are weighing would cut refugee admissions by half or more, to 10,000 to 15,000 people, but reserve most of those spots for people from a few countries or from groups with special status, such as Iraqis and Afghans who work alongside American troops, diplomats and intelligence operatives abroad. Another option, proposed by a top administration official, would reduce refugee

Boeing’s new widebody jet, the 777X, suffered a setback Thursday afternoon during a high-pressure stress test on the ground when one of the airplane’s doors exploded outward. One 777X employee working in a nearby bay at Boeing’s Everett plant said he heard “a loud boom and the ground shook.” The accident happened to what’s called the “static test airplane,” one of the two airplanes in any new jet program that are built for ground testing only and will never fly. It was during the final test that must be passed as part of the airplane’s certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The president of Iceland included a colorful accessory choice for the occasion of his recent Reykjavik meeting with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, a rainbow bracelet. Guðni Jóhannesson and his wife, Eliza Reid, both wore the rainbow bands during the meeting, apparently as a show of support for LGBT individuals in light of criticism of Mr. Pence’s record on gay and transgender issues. The Indiana Republican, a devout Christian, has been criticized as anti-LGBT by detractors for his record in public office, especially a controversy from 2015 during Mr. Pence’s tenure as governor when a religious-liberty bill he supported was met

Felicity Huffman has been recommended to spend just one month in jail in connection to the college admissions scandal where she pleaded guilty earlier this year to mail fraud and honest services fraud. The actress admitted she had paid $15,000 for her daughter Sofia's SAT test to be corrected to help her gain entry to the University of Southern California. After prosecutors originally called for her to spend between four and ten months locked up, the recommendation filed Friday by the U.S. Attorney's office asked for her to be jailed for 30 days. Following her time inside, Huffman, 59, will be on supervised released

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown threatened violence against his team's general manager, and the team is doing nothing about it. On Wednesday, Brown had a heated exchange with Raiders GM Mike Mayock where he unleashed a barrage of foul language and went as far as threatening to punch Mayock in the face. The exchange came because Mayock was unhappy that Brown had posted a part of a letter the GM sent him on social media. The letter had to do with the $54,000 the team fined him for a pair of unexcused absences from practice during training camp.

Sen. Edward Markey expressed worries Thursday that Amazon’s video doorbell Ring and its partnership with law enforcement could lead to increased racial profiling, particularly with people of color. Mr. Markey wrote a letter to Amazon’s chief executive saying he was “alarmed to learn that Ring is pursuing facial recognition technology” and offering police departments access to Rekognition, their face-matching program. The Massachusetts Democrat added the technology raises “serious privacy and civil liberties concern” that “could easily create a surveillance network that places dangerous burdens on people of color” in areas where Ring has partnered with police officials. Although Amazon markets Ring

A man hurled a half-gallon of milk at a cop while officers stood guard at a Bronx fire scene, the NYPD said Thursday. The incident happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday after cops had evacuated an apartment building at 1454 Grand Concourse as firefighters battled a blaze, according to the NYPD. The crowd became rowdy and a man chucked a carton of milk at one of the officers—who quickly ducked out of the way. A short 20-second video posted to Instagram, with the word art “F— the [police emoji],” shows the man toss the carton at the cops.

Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake has banned people from waving the Betsy Ross flag at games, claiming that the Colonial-era flag design has been “adopted as a symbol for hate groups” and doesn’t fit with the team’s mission of inclusiveness. Last weekend, stadium staff asked the couple to put the flag away. “They kept telling us if he

For example, you talked earlier about transportation. I've been pushing really hard for mass transit and for rail. We can take millions of vehicles off the road if we had high-speed rail. I've been a champion of that for the last 25 years. We know the corridors where we could do that. It would literally take millions of vehicles off the road. But you have to have a rail system that

In his book The Art of the Deal, President Donald Trump described his communication style as "truthful hyperbole." Hyperbole, sure. Truthful, questionable. Take Trump's recent speech in Pennsylvania where he declared that his tariffs had turned things around for the domestic steel industry. He also claimed the unratified United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement—USMCA or the new NAFTA—and his steep Chinese tariffs would also bring jobs back to the United States.
