The White House briefing room has many functions: a storage space for tripods and camera gear, a backdrop for visitor photos, a temporary workspace for journalists without a desk. What it is not, at least since March 11, is a venue for President Trump’s press secretary to brief reporters on administration policies. Next week will mark six months since the last White House “daily” briefing, another erosion of transparency and democracy under Trump or a sad indictment of the “fake news” media’s incivility, depending on your view. "The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the 'podium' much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately,

I never find the press daily briefing compelling to watch no matter who was the president.
It is more an opportunity for the press to show off and enhance their career.

“President Trump communicates with the American people more than any president in history,” said Stephanie Grisham, who replaced Sanders in July. “The fact that the White House press corps can no longer grandstand on TV is of no concern to us.”
Right on. Take that, press weenies.
No wonder they're chewing their lips off 24/7. That "no concern to us" line must've immediately popped at least 100 pea-heads.

The general public does not miss these press briefings. Only the lefty media does. Its harder for them to play 'gotcha' without the press briefings.

I will admit, I'm not a twitter guy or socialist medai guy. But the reporting on Trump's twits provides me with more direct information from our president than any previous president. I don't know it that is 'good' or 'bad'. I assume its based on the Kneepads' definition. But for me, I have more of a clue what Trump thinks than all the other presidents combined in my lifetime.

Actually the press is an embarrassment...just ask the foreign leaders..they always comment ..do they always do this?? Name one thing you have ever learned at a WH press conference ! It’s a photo op for the so called. press Corp. The press should be ashamed for their rude, disrespectful, out of control actions.

The press killed the press briefings, not Pres. Trump. The daily briefings had changed from a time to gather information to a time for "journalists" to play gotcha with the Press Secretary and give their commentary on the President and his administration. They had devolved into nothing more than a press circus with reporters trying to out-do the other with their impressive look how clever I am gotcha lectures, disguised as questions.

Behaviors have consequences. Jim Acosta and his fellow drama queens have no one to blame but themselves. “The fact that the White House press corps can no longer grandstand on TV is of no concern to us.” Exactly. And I include myself in that “us.”

McCurry is a phony blowhard.
He refused to be briefed about the Monica Lewinsky mess, because "I don't want to be subpoenaed."
And the press let him get away with it.

#3, is correct.
And, just watch Trump take question after question, without any pre-planned idea of who will ask what, and answers them all. Hardly someone who isn't "up to the job", or unfit for the job, mentally deranged, etc..

The continuing disrespect by the adversarial press for the President of the USA and each of his policies are reason enough to end this senseless fiasco. The press absolutely ruined the venue. However, this President continues to be abundantly generous regarding answering press questions throughout his busy days and activities. It would be helpful if their politically biased MSM bosses would stop sifting & marginalizing the President's messages to the public!

They can blame that rotten judge yesterday and his ridiculous ruling. Now that the WH cannot set standards, even those approved by a court, for behavior in a press briefing, why have them? I enjoyed the daily pressers, and despise the idiots in the press room who have ruined it. So don't complain to us MSM about how you no longer have access. Blame the idiot from Playboy.

#8 "Name one thing you have ever learned at a WH press conference !" I learned that Jim Acosta is an arrogant idiot, that the rest of the WH press corps are children who can't control themselves and have no respect for the office of the president, and, who lack any integrity.

If the CrapMedia wants to know what the president is thinking, they can tune into his daily tweets on Twitter. Also, Trump often will spend 20-30 minutes answering press question just before he boards Marine One - something Obama never did. He always tells you exactly what he is thinking. No hemming, no hawing and no stuttering like that last guy.

This is what wayward children get when they act out. You take away their platform. Although I did love to watch Sarah Sanders skewer these nitwits, I am fine without seeing their faces and hearing them misbehave. Their disrespect is palatable even in their facial expressions. I am glad this vehicle for their bitter spite has been removed. Once again, we’ll done, Mr. President.

Who needs the Press Briefing? Most of them will just lie about the President anyhow. If I want to know what the President is thinking or doing, I go to Twitter and get his story directly from him. For now. Twitter has a way of banning conservatives. The President may not block anyone on Twitter, but Twitter may prevent people from seeing his tweets. Maybe the President can look into that next.

As others above note, no news has ever been obtained at a press briefing as the White House issues news according to its schedule and needs, not the media's. The result, as we know, is a dozen reporters standing on the lawn of the White House reading identical press releases. But they have the big white columns behind them so the rubes will think they (the reporters) are important.
The reality is that a permanent cadre of reporters at the White House is an anachronism. It is a relic of the days of steamship and rail travel when the president and the media were both at the mercy of transportation timetables and stories were filed via telegraph. As the TV era dawned the reporters (and their bosses) realized that a press briefing could be a convenient daily means of praising Democrats and defaming Republicans - along with reporters promoting themselves.
Hypocrisy reigns supreme among the media - as usual. The reality is that a WH gig involves - or involved - being flown on Air Force One at taxpayer expense. Essentially a large, luxurious private jet for them. No parking headaches, no TSA, no delays at the gate. They were also taken - along with their families - on private leisure junkets eg ski trips. While they moan about the lack of access to government, they reliably omit the perks.

Hopefully, the rest of the reporters will rightfully blame CNN's "Acoster" for this being killed. Now watch CNN take the White House to court over cancelling Jimmy's personal, "Punch and Judy Show", that allows him to sling insults, bring ridicule, and other acts of a child on President Trump and White House personnel.

I like the way President Trump conducts the ''Helicopter'' briefings. Outdoors, Sun in the media's face, sitting in bleachers looking like the peanut gallery. I hope the bleachers are not level! Also, the questions from the press are diminished, due to background noise, but President Trump comes across loud and clear. Cuts way down on the grandstanding by the socialist media!

The "Whitehouse Briefing" became a wanna-be performance artist platform for the insignificant seeking fame and fortune. The combative style that evolved as the Mike Wallace branch of journalists sought to have the 'gotcha' moment that would earn them praise from their fellow half-wits was exhausting. I for one am glad it is past. As other posters have noted, there are much more effective ways to communicate with the people than through a bunch of pampered, entitled, bloviating mental midgets.

The Roosevelt swimming pool should be restored. Melania and Barron and the many grandchildren could use the exercise to become even more beautiful, if that is possible. The White House Correspondents tripods and cameras should be stored somewhere in the adjoining Eisenhower Old Executive building so the lawn of the White House can be made beautiful again without these awful people trampling all over it.

Reading all of these comments about the way the media behave reminded me of the late great Tony Snow. During a press conference on the Iraq war, a reporter asked him a “question” which was just a long rambling rant against Bush. After he was done, Tony said, “Thank you for the Al Qaeda” talking points.” And then called on the next reporter.
Still miss him!
