President Trump is canceling federal student loan debt held by disabled U.S. veterans.Trump announced the new executive memorandum at a speech in front of the American Veterans organization in Louisville, Kentucky, on Wednesday."I am taking executive action to ensure that our wounded warriors are not saddled with mountains of student debt," Trump told an audience of veterans. He is ordering the Department of Education "to eliminate every penny of federal student loan debt owed by American veterans who are completely and permanently disabled."The order will aid more than 25,000 eligible veterans holding roughly $30,000 worth of student loan debt, Trump said. No federal tax will be levied against

I agree with this to an extent, our vets have sacrificed themselves for this country and the country should repay that sacrifice in any manner necessary; however, #1 makes a valid point, and the program should be means tested to weed out the grifters.

#1, DJT is eliminating student loan debt for those veterans who are 100% disabled. I would argue for a more generous forgiveness for those partially disabled. Means testing be damned.

Good move by Trump but why are 25,000 American troop completely and permanently disabled. Past presidents and Congress should be ashamed of themselves to get into wars without the will to use overwhelming force.

The precedent now established, the Democratic candidates will forthwith promise to sign a broader executive order that includes everyone. Where in the Constitution does the President derive the unilateral power to cancel and pay for private debt, whether owed by disabled veterans or anyone else?

Obama cancelled student loan debt for prople on social security disability ...so Trump cancelled veterans students debt. I thought veterans received free college?

Sound the alarm. This opens the door for a future Democrat free-stuff president to cancel all student loan debt.

As a service-connected disabled veteran, although not 100% disabled, with 20 years of undergraduate and graduate school, I applaud the president's sentiment but have mixed feelings about the efficacy of the program and its inevitable expansion under a different administration. While I returned to school in my 30s to obtain the terminal degree in my field of study, I worked full time and avoided taking out student loans. While that involved some sacrifice, I did have the old Vietnam era G.I. Bill, which was helpful during my undergraduate years and I had a generous employer, that provided tuition reimbursement for graduate work, as long as it was work-related. I support the program providing some pro-rated benefit to those less than 100% service-disabled and tend to support means testing, particularly for those less than 100% disabled. What is not clear about the president's action is while it's clear that federal student loans will be forgiven, it's unclear whether it cancels government backed student loans from an otherwise private entity.

I've seen many grifters taking advantage of Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits and also taking on Title IV student loans when they didn't need it. Post 9/11 paid the tuition AND provided cost of living allowance(over $2000. per month) for 4 years while they're in college! Plus, most qualified for PELL Grants(5600.00/yr). Saw one couple, both veterans earning $10,000.00 a month and both driving luxury cars. Yes, all need to be vetted and means-tested before their loans are forgiven!

Message to snowflake and SJW college students...if you want your student loan canceled, get off your arse, get out of your safe space, grow up and server your country.
