Jeffrey Epstein, inmate 76318-054, hated his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. It was cramped, dank and infested with vermin, so Mr. Epstein, long accustomed to using his wealth to play by his own rules, devised a way out.
He paid numerous lawyers to visit the jail for as many as 12 hours a day, giving him the right to see them in a private meeting room. Mr. Epstein was there for so long that he often appeared bored, sitting in silence with his lawyers, according to people who saw the meetings. While they were there, he and his entourage regularly emptied the two vending machines of drinks and snacks.

#1 - I agree. Now we are getting all this peripheral junk that means nothing - pictures on his walls,
etc. etc. etc.
Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

These articles are always a little creepy because they give you a view into the last days of the person involved. Epstein was no longer able to control his life and what went on around him in any meaningful way and that had to be very upsetting to someone who is used to having his every need met. The ending of these individuals who have caused so much misery themselves is what they deserve. However, it is unfortunate that he won’t be there to stand trial, accept his fate and face the consequences of his depraved life. Society is always worse off when those individuals are not held accountable for the lives they have ruined and does little to dissuade others from going down a similar path. Swift and sure justice is a requirement for the good of society and we are seeing very little of it anymore. When scum like this guy evades it, trust evaporates and rightly so. Now more than ever we need to know the system works not just for the little guy, but for the wealthy and powerful.
Can anyone honestly believe someone like HRC would ever be charged with anything? It is becoming abundantly clear that justice is a concept that has little to do with fairness, law or accountability and everything to do with who you are, who you know, and how much power you wield. Equality under the law would have to be proven to me. I no longer believe that it exists.

Sounds like a typical prison experience. My prison was a GD disaster that was run by consensus between the inmates and the staff. Quite often, there would be only one guard in charge of 200 inmates. A routine officer crew of only four handled the midnight to 8:30 am shift. Counts were taken every two hours. No window screens, let mosquitoes and flies swarm over the inmates and staff - inmates had to make "bed spread" nets over themselves to get any respite from the insects. Sometimes, skunks would be seen rummaging trough garbage cans inside the dormitory blocks. The prison routinely dumped fresh kitchen slop into open pits just a few hundred feet from the main facility- clouds of flies would swarm out of these pits, making them look like smoke was coming out of them...but, it was flies. When I took over as Maintenance Supervisor, I permanently buried those pits and instituted daily garbage removal. Mosquito control took a little longer. But, I had almost no budget for anything. This was 1988 through 1995!
I am not surprised by Epstein's experience in a Federal institution. Prison is prison.

Perhaps the Epstein story is being done to death but what screamed out at me in this article was the way the NYT explained why he committed suicide even though there is strong evidence that he didn’t. This is so similar to the Clintonian “nothing to see here” strategy - deny, deny, deny and bore everyone with banality and detail until the story dies. Also, given the conditions reported, why isn’t the Times on one of their righteous rampages to make improvements? I have a feeling that will be their next tack - to manage the Epstein story so that it becomes about prisoner rights and horrible conditions. Improvements will also cost a lot of money and I have a feeling much of that cash will fall into the hands of powerful leftists.

Behind a membership wall for me, and I don't traffic with the NYT, although the article may have been interesting. I am reminded of the lavish life the Mafia had in prison, at least as portrayed in movies and television.

You didn't miss anything, #6. The article is a water-carrying piece for those who killed Epstein. It’s as simple as that.

Forgive second post, but I saw a comment on same subject in another article, and person was saying, in effect, "don't stop", and that is where I am at as well. Though the whole business is such a sad commentary on our justice system. We all know that there were all kinds of evidence that is being covered with cement or whatever at this very moment, even though we are told - the F B I - is investigating!!!!!!!!!! Lord, help us!
Remember the part of the Pledge of Allegiance where we stated, even as kids - "... with liberty and justice for all". That was in a religious school. Not sure if that is said anymore.

FTA, "It is impossible to know why a person takes his own life....." And then the NYT goes on and on explaining why. That statement is right up there with Comey's "“No reasonable prosecutor would bring a case. This investigation was done honestly, competently and independently.”
