ny majority population must be careful not to revert to pre-civilized tribalism and oppressing minority groups. The United States, like every other country that enjoys diverse populations has struggled from its beginning to ensure equality, sometimes unsuccessfully, and only at the cost of thousands of lives.
While the United States was founded originally mostly by those of European ancestry and was plagued by the endemic racism of the age, especially in regard to African slaves and Native Americans, nonetheless its unique Constitution, embedded within a larger framework of the Western Enlightenment, institutionalized self-reflection and the chance for amendment. America’s founding documents were unique in their singular

CBS just broadcast a meeting with people from the Charlottesville event (I can't figure a good single word to call it), a group of Black and White people with a moderator. A Black participant said that people could be a racist as they wanted, but they had to dismantle the racist system that their ancestors had instituted. The White participants agreed unequivocally and wholeheartedly with this.
It looked like a balanced panel, except as near as I can tell, the White participants were part of the protesting crowd at Charlottesville, not the counter-protesting group. So the panel LOOKED diverse, but it was of one mind.
I have no problem agreeing with the dismantling the racist system instituted by our ancestors. Earlier ancestors got rid of slavery and Jim Crow laws, after all. But we have to define what that system is and what, specifically, needs to be dismantled. Right now, it seems to be if you are Black and I am White and I disagree with you, I am a racist, no matter what facts, figures or cogent arguments I offer to defend my point-of-view.
Blacks keep saying White don't understand the discriminatory barriers they face. Explain it to us. Concrete examples, from right now; not nebulous, undefined words, not what you thought the other person or group meant, not the unfixable past.
We can fix this problem, if can define it. However, we cannot fix how people feel or think. Each individual, of all colors, races, ethnicities, nationalities, alphabetic designation, will have to fix that in themselves.

For this, Victor Davis Hanson will be classified as a white supremacist.

#3, Hanson's writings are posted here. He was tarred with that brush a long time ago.
(Making him a White tar-baby, I guess. He's rights racial politics in America are a mess.)

The conglomeration of people that make up the US population were not equal in anything before they got here, what makes anybody think that they will suddenly become equal when they are bestowed US citizenship? Our Constitution guarantees equality of Rights and Opportunity, the rest you have to achieve on your own. You can't just declare people equal and Poof! they are wearing suits and graduating with doctorates in physics and wearing MENSA pins on their lapels. It takes a lot of fiddling with thumbs on the scales to achieve that and we have not perfected it yet.

I love VDH. He is the best voice for Conservatism. However my question is 'What race are people from India, Southeast Asia, Mexico and Central and South America. The choices are simple. The recognized races are Caucasian, Negroid, Asian and Pacific Ocean.

Here's a question for the left, who are obsessed with skin color: Is being prejudiced against a person the same as being racist?
If they answer yes, ask what about a case where the person is the same skin color?
After a confused, deer in the headlights rambling answer, ask if being against a criminal is racist (but don't specify skin color.)
If I am prejudiced against someone who is prejudiced against me, are we both racist?
The democrat left sure has made me prejudiced.

Another one hit out of the park by Davis. I loved how he named names without using doxxing of the wannabe tribal leaders. Best line FTA: ''... in America there was a real chance to overcome not American sins per se, but the ancient sins of mankind in general.'' According to the words, documents and papers of our founders, they encouraged the leadership of the Almighty to make that happen. He did so, and He let us help him. Then godless atheists, and liberal politicians booted Almighty God out of America. If you tell God to get out of your life, he will go. Then comes poverty of spirit.

The racist charge by democrats is one of the largest slanders of all time. Not all people will like all people, and not all races will like all other races. It's only a problem if one acts maliciously against the other. I see very little of that overt activity. In fact, I think Trump has cause to sue those calling him a white supremicist, among other things. Also, on voter suppression, I've yet to see the left present an actual person whose vote was suppressed. I would like to see the circumstances of how that happened. I wonder why they the dems don't bring someone forward who had that happen to him/her!

Folks - - don't miss out on this historic opportunity.
There is a huge demand - - monumental in scope - - by leftists for white supremacists. But the supply is woefully short - - almost nonexistent.
So there's a terrific opportunity - - especially for the youngsters in our audience - - to make very lucrative deals with the leftists by pretending to be a white supremacist. You can become fabulously rich overnight - - simply by faking white supremacy.
If I were ten years younger - - or maybe fifty years younger - - i'd jump on this chance! Go to it, kids!

We are created equal in one thing only --- TIME = 24 hours per day.
What we each do with that commodity has a very wide spread. The Bible is very clear that what we do with our time determines the level of "equality" of each individual. Laziness is very widely discussed.

"ubiquitous white supremacy has largely become a thing of the past"
And so, like all the rest of the liberal agenda, they have to fake up the villains to make a case for themselves being necessary to "save" the Country from the evil they have made up.

Great article, as is the norm for VDH.
...But I'm saddened by what this site has become. The few people that comment on an article anymore (it was uncommon for there to be less than 200 replies to any Must Read, "back in the day") now, it seems only a bit over half of the posters have actually read the article before commenting on it. "Back in the day" it would be rare that it was so obvious that a poster had not read the article before posting, and if (s)he did, (s)he was called out for it.
That is obviously gone and likely one of the many reasons we now get fewer than 20 comments on a Must Read.
But as usual, VDH nails it.
