I was in Washington DC on this day in 1974. Touring all the sights with a group of foreign exchange students. We were schedule to tour the Whitehouse on the day he left office. We arrived at the WHitehouse for our tour only to be told that all whitehouse tours ahd been cancelled. We were just about to leave when a Secret servise agent boarded the dus and instructed the driver to move the bus back behind the Whitehouse. We were all then instructed to exit the bus and led out onto the whitehouse lawn.
We wathched Richard Nixon exit the WHitehouse and walk across the lawn. We saw Marine 1 on the ground and watched as it lifted off and took Nixon away. It was one of the most significant things I ever witnessed. We were close enough to hear the Secret service talking, but unfortunately our view of the helicopter door was blocked, we did not see the famous (or infamous) flashing of the peace signs, but we saw everything else.
Its funny I dont remember the crowd, just that it was small and I remember how quiet it was.
I don't to this day know why we were given such a priveleged seat at such an incredibly historic event. All of the other tour busses were told to leave, even one that was part of our group, and they did. I'm sure that the 25 or so foreign students from Austria that were with us will always remember that day.

I'm sure Nixon resigned on 8/8 as an homage to Adolph Hitler.

Nixon never investigated the Democrats back then. I think, if he had, that he would have found a lot of things far worse than his suspicions about the Democrats, and would not have resigned. The Democrats got him, and the Republicans helped them.

Dear Beeb! Take your wishful thinking and stuff it where the sun won't shine! Britain doesn't need you and neither do we.

After spending a year claiming that Nixon was innocent of obstructing justice, breaking into the DNC’s Watergate offices and breaking into the psychiatrist office for Daniel Ellsberg’s records, Gerald Ford gave the corrupt Nixon a full and complete pardon. Pardon doomed Ford’s election in 1978 while allowing Tricky Dick to escape unharmed. Worse, Nixon’s ability to escape justice was a lesson that the Clintons and Obama never forgot. Namely, if you are president, you are above the law. Even today, AG Barr fully respects this Stay out of Jail Card that Nixon created for his incredibly corrupt Democrat successors. Hillary will NEVER be prosecuted no matter how stunning her crimes and how much evidence there is about her crimes.
Nixon turned my wife and I into Democrats. Thankfully, Reagan and Trump brought us back from the dark side.

Watch the documentary "Five days in Saigon". They say in this that the North Vietnamese were terrified of Nixon and his B-52s. Once the democrats got him out of the way they were able to abandon South Vietnam. The suffering this caused is unimaginable.

Why is this being mentioned now especially by left wing BBC? Most people were not even born yet. Most people only know Nixon as the one success the libs can hang their hat on. The libs have been trying to repeat this feat against every conservative president ever since.
I guess the ;ibs are hoping that on the anniversary on Nixon resignation that Trump would follow his example and resign.
Word to libs...let it go already.
Word to my ultra liberal lesbian but misinformed sister, that Nixon was not impeached, but resigned...unlike Clinton, who was impeached but did not resign.

I proudly voted for Richard Nixon, TWICE. He knew more about foreign affairs than any other President. I feel if the internet was alie and well as it is now, Nixon would noot have resigned.
