Some 200 volunteers combed through the streets of northwest Baltimore on Aug. 5, cleaning up trash and weeds in an “Americans Helping Americans” event organized by conservative activist Scott Presler.Starting at 7 a.m. at the corner of North Fulton Avenue and Westwood Avenue, the volunteers spread through the surrounding blocks. By 8 p.m. they had collected over 12 tons of trash—destination junkyard. Many locals expressed gratitude to the participants, and some joined in, Presler said in a phone call.

Where was Elijah Cummings? Down at the border, making sure illegal kids don’t sit in their own poop.

Kudos to these people who cleaned up the mess. That is not their responsibility though. They pay taxes to have this done by city workers. Now that they have cleaned up the streets they should clean out the government officials who are not doing their job.

While cleaning up the trash is a wonderful act of kindness by these volunteers who are mostly from outside Baltimore, the article neglects to raise some questions that need to be asked:
Why don't the people that live in these neighborhoods clean up the trash themselves on a regular basis? Most people who care about where they live will keep their neighborhoods clean.
Who generates these mounds of trash? Locals? Out of area people? If I saw someone in my neighborhood dumping trash, appliances, furniture, etc. I would call the police and confront them. I would also clean up the mess myself if no one came. Why don't the people in these neighborhoods demand that their government provide the basic services which are the norm in most neighborhoods outside the democrat controlled cities?
Why do the people in these neighborhoods keep voting in the democrat communist politicians who are in charge of their local governments and are responsible for the municipal services including providing regular trash pickup, policing, fire, emergency services? The ultimate responsibility for this mess is the people who live in these Ghetto Plantations formed and run by the utterly corrupt and evil communist democrats because of their stupid and robot like habit of voting democrat year after year.
The ultimate blame for these abhorrent conditions lies with the people (voters) who live in these squalid hell holes.
Shame on them for their passive willingness to live like pigs.

It was so nice to see Elijah himself picking up the trash in his own district, and helping out his distraught city. Oh, wait...you're not serving Chardonnay or signing impeachment petitions? Nevermind then. Elijah isn't going to get his fingernails dirty for this.

The people of Baltimore should clean their own streets; how much effort does it take to pick up trash, sweep and wash the streets and sidewalks, and paint over graffiti. it is the culture---the difference between those ignorant, lazy and dependent on government and those smart, industrious and self-sufficient. For example, the difference between Haitians who have rubble in the streets more than a decade after an earthquake and the Japanese who had cleaned up the evidence of a tsunami within a few months.

The missed a huge chunk of trash weighing about 185 pounds -- Elijah Cummings. Belongs in the ash heap of history,

Some joined in? Why not all of them? After the bombing of Berlin my grandmother who was in her 40s was charged (along with several other idle citizens) to clean up the city. She cleaned and stacked bricks and cleared debris. Why won't the citizens of Baltimore do the same. Even the kids could lend a hand.

Yes, it is the responsibility of the residents and politicians they elect to pick up trash. But I would like Republicans to continue to push communities to take action without these slugs and bureaucrats who won't get these things done. What other services can be included in this call for action? Also, yes, it was an act of love, but it also embarrassed the folks who do nothing in these corrupt and worthless Democrat Party governments. A wonderful side effect of the effort.

For a few years, our town had a cleanup Saturday. Various civic and church groups and individuals descended on the east part of town and moved mountains of garbage and rubbish. In some cases they demolished small outbuildings that were an eyesore and a health hazard. Mattress boxes collected water and attracted mosquitos, for example. They had been creative in the variety of eyesores they created.
Some of the cleanup was done in the yards of the elderly and ill, but not necessarily. My husband was amazed at the numbers of able bodied people who sat on their porches and watched. He was encouraged, however, when some of the little old ladies came out with water and other refreshments to encourage the workers. Of course, some of the church and civic groups came from the neighborhood being cleaned. This was done successfully for several years.

Baltimore wouldn't give Scott dumpster permits. Not only will they refuse to do their jobs, they don't want anyone else doing it either.
