What's the matter with California?

California wants to look after its people, so it keeps expanding its social safety net. It also wants to welcome all comers and so embraces illegal immigrants and protects them in sanctuary cities.
To see how this is working out, visit Skid Row in L.A. or neighborhoods in San Francisco or elsewhere where homeless camps are spreading.
Caring for all Californians is made harder by the state importing as many non-Americans as possible. It's almost incredible, but also entirely characteristic, that California lawmakers have now decided to give healthcare free to nearly 100,000 illegal immigrants aged 19 to 25.

Leadership! That’s what’s wrong.
I’m old enough to remember a California led by Governor Ronald Reagan. Their economy and way of life was the envy of the entire world.
Democrat leaders have turned it into a cesspool.

"State lawmakers were forced to choose between them, and they chose open borders. One must hope that one day the state's voters choose different lawmakers." Keep dreaming. This will never happen. CA is way to far gone. We would be better off to give it to Mexico and build a wall around California.

It's simple math. Open borders + welfare state = unmitigated disaster.. What part of this isnt obvious?

The image of a long line of illegals showing up for taxpayer funded (certainly not free) health care in neighborhoods where American citizens are sleeping on sidewalks in rat infested tents should be placed on billboards all over the country. This is what liberalism looks like.

So now ISIS types can send over, thru Mexico, people to CA to get free health care while planning to blow up the place.
And the tech honchos are all in with Newsom! All lefties have screws loose.

California doesn't care about its people, the goal is to keep democrats in power forever and they will reach that goal even if they destroy the state in the process. They run the state like Sears ran their company for the past thirty years, short term profit, long term disaster and disappearance. They will pay the price, all of those overpaid democrats enjoying their cushy lifestyle and making all of those incredibly stupid decisions are going to find that their retirement packages are going to disappear in a sea of insurmountable debt and it will be the debt that they are busily creating now.

If you're a multi-millionaire you can enjoy California in your rich enclaves like Malibu and Pacific Heights. Otherwise it's a hellhole (or the other hole made popular by President Trump) for everyone else.
The Left destroyed it. Their state employee pension debt is at the top of the list that's strangling the state. California is socialism at it's worst in this country.

The problem with California is that the one party leadership of the state hasn't run out of other people's money yet.

The ''golden state'' is tarnished. It's not gold, just cheap brass! Democrats are doing a good job of destroying the state.

I don't believe for a single second that these sanctuary states actually want more people to come. We saw the reactions on social media when Trump just barely mentioned busing illegals to sanctuary states. I found that irony amusing and hypocritical of the left in Cali. They just want to be able to virtue signal without having to stand by their words. Invoking the individual mandate nonsense to force citizens to pay for these illegals I hope is the final straw for residents. Most people can't afford the premiums as it is, and now you want to punish them for government's own incompetence? That just isn't going to fly well.

People can leave whenever they want. The people that remain can choose to destroy themselves like so many dem cities have.
The only thing to make sure of is that We the People do NOT bail them out. Given their behavior, we may need to quarantine the state at the state border so the illegals don't have open access to the Country.
Why does this feel like an expanded plot of "Escape from L.A.", Escape from California" with a containment wall around the state.

I’m not sure where #10 lives, but we have never lived in Malibu or Pacific Heights, and you certainly couldn’t call our City a “hellhole”…
People need to get a grip… put away those broad brushes. There are 5 million Republican voters in California. How many in your state?

I love where I live in Ca. But the leadership and the radical hateful left are running the show and it is bad and getting worse.
SF really is as bad as the reports. I have to go there a few times a month for work.
When they adopted that freaking Top-Two Primary System, we were truly doomed.

The problem with California is that it has been ruled by the Browns, the Newsomes and the Pelosis for 60 years. There is a fantastic video explaining their relationships. Enjoy! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZurU9Vhl8as

Look at every major city in the U.S. that's run by Democrats and you'll find the same hellhole conditions; maybe not quite as bad ad CA but in the same category. The obvious answer is "Democrats."

I moved to San Francisco forty years ago and lived there for ten years. It was a truly magical place and California finances were rock solid, AAA from all the rating agencies. All that is just memories now.

If my state cannot be a good example to the rest of the country, let it be a horrible warning.
The seeds and sprouts of "progressive" communism are present in every state. The Left used California as their original seedbed, doing their lab work at Berkeley. Reagan was elected in response to the student riots of the 60's. Already established within Hollywood and the press, the Left portrayed the Golden State as the Mecca for every disaffected Hippie wannabe in the nation, filling us with nuts from across the fruited plain. When Wilson was governor our electorate voted overwhelmingly to deny welfare to illegals. It was overturned by the courts. That became the pattern for every conservative issue that won in the voting booth. As posted above, when they bamboozled in the "jungle primary" we became a one-party communist state.
Conservatives didn't leave America because Obama was elected and Dhims owned the congress. I will not leave my birthright. I'm staying and fighting for the Golden State, as each of you should fight for your state. What's happening in your college towns? In your state capitol?
MAGA - It means all 50 states.

I trust that history will fix the Dims wagon. What gets broken can be reversed via a few more elections. CA is broadcasting the results of socialist ideals - a service to other states. I'm staying,. The pendulum always swings and eventually my children will benefit from lessons learned. I predict a 'great awaking' among the voters. I also predict that the ones who had to leave will wish they had been able to financially hold on to the homestead. MCaGA.

We left last year. The democrat legislature in Sacramento runs the state like a crime family, like Nazi's.
Over-regulation and taxes and PG&E and Governor Moonbeam and the new GQ Boy Governor are all rabid left wing radicals.
The state's symbol should be a "CLOWN CAR"....
Or feces on the street. Or heroin needles on the street. Or homeless tents on the street.
In 1975 I thought I'd achieved the California Dream life.
In 2018 I thought I was in wildfire hell.
It only took 43 years to turn the ONCE Golden State into a sh**-hole.
We don't miss a damn thing about that state.Especially those PG&E devils!
Wish we would have left sooner....

If you want to see why California is in the mess it currently is in, it's more than just single-party rule.
#6 nailed it. It's been ruled by 4 families for the past 3 generations - Brown, Pelosi, Newsom, and Getty.
Currently,
The Browns are represented by Gov. Jerry Brown (not Horizontal's boyfriend).
The Pelosis are represented by Speaker Nancy (I've got the biggest hammer) Pelosi.
The Newsoms are represented by Gov. Gavin Newsom. And
The Gettys (from Getty Oil) are represented by Billy Getty (Gavin's business partner).

I'm with you #24. Born in Coronado (San Diego) into a Navy family, this state is my home. I live here now. What I have watched is far greater numbers of people from other states flood in bringing their eastern ways with them. We are the west. The reason is the same why people came west over a century ago, to get away from unwanted eastern ideas. Nobody lately seems to claim Schumer, AOC and several other nut job socialists that all came from the east. Native Californians have no problem with American loving citizens but I tire of be hammered because of the onslaught of freaks that moved here from elsewhere. I apologize to fellow Ldotters but enough is enough. It will take all conservatives from all states to turn back the latest invasion of socialism. I go back to USSR's Nikita Khrushchev's tirade claiming to bury the USA in Oct. 1960. I was eleven but recall it easily because at that early age it scared the cr/p out of me. We certainly do not need to needle each other.
