Looking back at my law school education at the time of my graduation, I thought I had learned the answer to most difficult legal questions: It depends. I think that answer may apply to the question of whether calling someone the “n” word is protected speech under the First Amendment. The Supreme Court has exempted “fighting words” from the protection of the First Amendment. It is a shrinking and dubious category, but as of today it still exists. The 2025 Harvard Law Review Note “Fighting Words at the Founding” presents a thought-provoking reconsideration of the doctrine in light of the common law at the time of the founding.

The United States and the United Kingdom are under attack from within. Consider a small sampling of recent stories that the corporate news media have mostly ignored:

It was decided that Bezmenov should settle in Canada under a new name for a while. Bezmenov came back to the U.S. in 1980 with a mission to educate people about Soviet "ideological subversion," which is the basic systematic methodology communists use to take down countries and establish Marxist-Leninist socialist-type states.

On Saturday, Troy Jackson was officially picked as the replacement for Graham Platner to be the Democrat candidate for the Senate from Maine.
As we reported, this was the likely result after the other main candidates dropped out and endorsed Jackson about a week ago. This was after it became clear that he had about two-thirds of the Democratic delegates who would be voting on a replacement. What was pretty humorous is a guy who's been in state politics for 25 years trying to paint himself as some kind of "outsider" or change agent. He also just lost another race for governor.
The socialists are feeling their oats right now.
They think they are on the rise in the face of a weak Democratic Party that seems largely okay with being eaten alive, and already has been largely taken over by radicals.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — the guy with the perpetual smirk — is one piece of evidence of this trend. He apparently thought he could dictate foreign policy and get Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested. Then when he found out he doesn't have that kind of power, he had to resort to encouraging leftists to protest.
That has now ticked off the local police,
Friday night's episode of The Five gave viewers a masterclass in what happens when a liberal co-host way out of her depth tries to lecture the panel and ends up lecturing herself into a corner. Jessica Tarlov set out to catch her conservative colleagues in a supposed contradiction on socialism. She walked out of the segment looking like a fool in the process.
Tarlov opened by accusing Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watters of hypocrisy over the Trump administration's equity stakes in companies such as U.S. Steel and Intel, arguing that conservatives have been throwing around the word "socialist" for years without meaning it.
The long strange trip is, of course, the Odyssey. The Christopher Nolan film dropped, to mixed reactions from conservative reviewers. Along with reviews, it gave rise to a number of entertaining memes. It was a rather slow week, so there were leftover memes–the World Cup, the buffalo, and so on. But the largest number of memes attacked socialism. Socialism has always been a target in meme-world, but with the Democratic Party going full commie, the memes are in overdrive.
Oh, one more thing: the phrase “explosive diarrhea” entered the lexicon.

There’s a dark mood creeping into American politics that has even the most die-hard gun control politicians worried. Democrats, typically (but not always) aligned with gun control, are facing the prospect of their political party turning their gaze to complete control.
Enter the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
These candidates for political office aren’t your grandfather’s Democrats or even limousine liberals. They can’t even honestly call themselves socialists. They’re cosplaying communists who are shredding any pretense of respect or admiration for the U.S. Constitution.

College softball versus the WNBA

When college kids showed more class than the WNBA I came across a very inspirational story yesterday. It was interesting because it provided a stark contrast to another story that’s been unfolding over the last few weeks. And the words “stark contrast” don’t adequately describe it.
The inspirational story involved a game between two women’s college softball teams that took place in 2008. This was a crucial conference game that had playoff implications. A young woman named Sara Tucholsky, playing for Western Oregon, hit her first career home run. There were two runners on base and two outs. Ms. Tucholsky was a senior,
Not so long ago, I suggested that Hunter Biden is testing the waters for a presidential run.
I was half joking, half not, as Mr. Biden has spent an inordinate amount of time out in public and on podcasts discussing politics and other matters, despite his claims that he is not running for office.
I'm not the only one who has noticed. (X) Discussion about a potential Biden run is still confined to the fringes, but Biden himself has been out and about quite a bit, appearing on podcasts, promoting his paintings, talking about addiction (ah, a redemption story!), and opining about politics.

Fox Business correspondent Edward Lawrence recently reported on a big problem that the Biden administration left with the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
He explained to Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner how the SPR was now at a 43-year low, noting how the Biden administration had drained 180 million barrels before the 2022 midterm elections. It was clearly for political reasons to help in the elections, not for the reason you're supposed to do it - for emergencies in the market supply. Actor Alan Ritchson, star of the Amazon Prime show Reacher, accused President Donald Trump of concealing the Epstein Files while saying that he’s “all up into 13 year olds.”
Ritchson expressed his thoughts during an interview with podcaster Josh Horwitz.
“People, I think, are a little afraid of me because they’re like he’s a loose canon, and I am not. I’m just saying the s*** that everybody should say if they give a s*** about humanity everybody else should feel like I feel about the way things are and the abuses that are happening everywhere,” he said.

A Biden-appointed majority on the First Circuit Court of Appeals handed President Donald Trump a major setback Saturday, refusing to lift an injunction blocking key election-integrity provisions of his executive order in 23 states and the District of Columbia.
The three-judge panel denied emergency stay requests filed by the Trump administration and 12 Republican-led states, leaving in place a lower-court order that prevents the Department of Homeland Security from distributing federal citizenship lists and blocks the U.S. Postal Service from applying new mail-ballot requirements in the plaintiff states for elections held on or before November 3, 2026.
Three more subcontractors that worked on the Obama Presidential Center have filed legal claims saying they are owed nearly $900,000, adding to a growing list of payment disputes surrounding the project.
The companies each filed mechanics liens against the Obama Presidential Center property, a routine legal tool used on construction projects to recover unpaid construction costs. The subcontractors claim they are owed money for structural steel, excavation and concrete, and gymnasium flooring work performed on Home Court, the Center's 60,000-square-foot basketball and events facility.
