One of the most annoying things about climate doomsayers is the certainty with which they make their dire predictions, while simultaneously making excuses for all their past prognostications that failed to materialize. Let’s revisit a few. In the early to mid-1970s, several magazine articles and a number of scientists predicted that cooling trends could usher in a new “mini-ice age” beginning within a few short years. Didn’t happen. This new age will be one of relentless improvement,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani promised last November as voters handed him the keys to the city. But that was before the temperatures truly dropped. In his inaugural address, the incoming mayor said, in one particularly tortured passage, “For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty.” Together, he added, New Yorkers are “warmed against the January chill by the resurgent flame of hope.” Through communalism, “we will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the modified spending package on Tuesday, which the Senate had handed them on Friday. The move ended the government shutdown that kicked in on Saturday, which most people weren't even aware of. More than that, it marks the first time that Congress has managed to do its job and pass a plan for the upcoming fiscal year without being in a major state of stopgap crisis. The only catch is that the spending bill funds almost the entirety of the U.S. government — except for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The Trump administration has quietly decided to allow employers to import 65,000 extra H-2B visa migrants for jobs that would otherwise pay decent wages to ordinary American who vote in the midterm elections. The visa giveaway is part of President Trump’s zig-zagging between the two sides of his coalition — the voters he needs on election day, and the business donors who provide the funds for political campaigns. Meanwhile, the national media is ignoring the visa giveaway to business because it is focused on the left-wing street groups who are trying to block the deportation of criminal and wage-cutting illegal migrants from Minneapolis.

Donald Trump threatened Monday to begin legal action against “loser” Trevor Noah after the comedian said the president visited convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s island and needs it again to “hang out” with Bill Clinton. The South African provided no evidence for the allegation which has been dismissed outright as a lie and fabrication by Trump. After congratulating Billie Eilish for winning the Grammy for Song of the Year for her track “Wildflower,” host Noah brought up his Trump and Epstein allegation. “Wow. That’s a Grammy that every artist wants — almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” he quipped, referring to the president’s efforts regarding the Arctic territory.

Left-Wing Bias in Education 5 replies

Left-wing bias in education. It has been following my son through every school he has attended and has once again raised its ugly head at his current college in Bedfordshire. My son is currently studying three A-level subjects there, having joined in September last year. One of those subjects is A-level law – evidence-based, focusing on factual information without fear, favour or prejudice, right? Not quite, it seems. Although he has been at the college for less than a year, he (and we as parents) have noticed extreme Left-wing agendas and beliefs being pushed onto the students. Many, if not most, of the students either swallow it unthinkingly –

According to a report from The New York Times, the DNC currently has $14 million on hand but is carrying $17.5 million in debt, leaving the party roughly $3.5 million in the red. Party leaders are said to be “privately alarmed” by the state of the finances.By contrast, the RNC is sitting on a $95.1 million war chest and reports no debt. Their report states: Without a president to headline events, the party that does not hold the White House often struggles to raise money in its main national committee.

Democrats in the Washington state legislature are pushing a proposal that establishes a list of demographic groups that are presumed to be “socially disadvantaged” for the purposes of state business certification. Based on the breadth of those categories, roughly 70 percent of Washington state residents would fall under the bill’s definition of “socially disadvantaged.” Under existing statute, the Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (OMWBE) defines a “socially disadvantaged individual” as someone who has experienced racial or ethnic prejudice or cultural bias within American society due to group identity, stemming from circumstances beyond the individual’s control. The agency may also determine social disadvantage on a case-by-case basis.

On Jan. 8, GM announced it would take a $7.1 billion hit in charges against its earnings, of which $6 billion is due to Barra’s failed EV strategy. In a filing with the SEC, the company also warned that it would take more write-downs this year as part of a “strategic realignment of EV capacity.”

During the 2025 gubernatorial election the voters of Virginia believed they were choosing between pragmatic Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger and lackluster Republican Lieutenant Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. The former was well funded and portrayed favorably by the corporate “news” media as a centrist, while the latter struggled to raise money and was labeled an extremist because of her strong support of gun rights. Spanberger won by double digits and most Virginians thought they were getting a slightly more liberal governor than her predecessor, Glenn Youngkin. Yet the moment she took office, it became obvious that Gov. Spanberger was no moderate.
