Virginia Judge Blocks Democrats' Redistricting
Push Ahead Of Midterms

Original Article

A Virginia state judge on Tuesday blocked plans by the state's Democratic lawmakers to use a new map this year before November's midterm elections, objecting to the redistricting push on procedural grounds. (snip) State law requires a constitutional amendment to be passed in the state legislature twice, with an election intervening between the sessions, in order to go before voters. But Hurley ruled that the first passage of the amendment did not take place before the state's 2025 elections because early voting had already begun.

Comments:

Virginia Democrats are "hoist with their own petard" since they are responsible for Virginia's lengthy early voting period. They are appealing this decision, likely to a "federal judge north of Richmond."

Democrats claim that Republicans are trying to prevent people from voting by stopping an illegal redistricting attempt. Nobody is being stopped from voting. The only thing stopped is the Democrat's illegal attempt to change voting districts and ignoring state laws. Apparently they suddenly believe that court decisions don't apply to them.

The FBI Director confirmed this week that his agency is investigating after independent journalist Cam Higby leaked what he described as encrypted chats from the Signal messaging app showing local groups coordinating efforts to track and obstruct U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The chats show officers collecting license plate data, dispatching mobile patrols to search for ICE vehicles, and mobilizing crowds, according to Higby. The groups also provide ICE observer training, Higby explained.

Prominent Republicans and gun rights advocates helped elicit a White House turnabout this week after bristling over the administration’s characterization of Alex Pretti, the second person killed this month by a federal officer in Minneapolis, as responsible for his own death because he lawfully possessed a weapon. The death produced no clear shifts in U.S. gun politics or policies, even as President Donald Trump shuffles the lieutenants in charge of his militarized immigration crackdown. But important voices in Trump’s coalition have called for a thorough investigation of Pretti’s death while also criticizing inconsistencies in some Republicans’ Second Amendment stances.
