Obama famously said that 'elections have consequences,' and despite the rather threatening tone with which he said it, he is absolutely right. Obama's election signaled a dramatic lurch leftward, although his tone and temperament led most liberals to think he was more center-left than left. Obama's great achievement was not in passing radical left-wing legislation—Obamacare was one of his few legislative accomplishments, and for the most part, his "success" there stalled his ability to pass much else. Investors revived the “Sell America” trade Tuesday and sold off US stocks, bonds and the dollar amid concerns about President Donald Trump’s clash with European leaders over ownership of Greenland.
The Dow closed lower by 871 points, or 1.76%. The broader S&P 500 fell 2.06%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite slid 2.39%. The S&P and Nasdaq wiped out their gains for this year.
The Dow, S&P and Nasdaq each had their worst day since October 10, when Trump had threatened to hike tariffs on imports from China.

US President Donald Trump tells Norway’s prime minister he no longer needed to think “purely of peace” after failing to win the Nobel Peace Prize, in a message published today.
“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” Trump says in a message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.
The authenticity of the message is confirmed to AFP by a source close to the matter, and by Store to Norwegian newspaper VG.
A high-speed train derailed and hurtled into another train in Spain on Sunday evening, killing at least 39 people and leaving dozens more injured in one of the country’s worst rail disasters in more than a decade.
The train, operated by rail company Iryo, was traveling from Malaga to Madrid with 371 people onboard when its rear three carriages derailed and crashed into the front two carriages of another high-speed train traveling in the opposite direction, officials said.
The collision, near Adamuz in the southern region of Andalusia, caused both trains to overturn at speed, news agency EFE reported, with the front carriages of the second train sent plunging down an embankment.

A U.S. military strike in northwest Syria resulted in the death of a leader affiliated with Al-Qaeda who was linked to an ISIS attack last month that resulted in the death of two U.S. Army soldiers and a U.S. civilian interpreter, the U.S. Central Command announced Saturday.
U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, conducted the strike on Jan. 16, killing Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, authorities said. This is not only insane and untrue, it’s a complete perversion of history. The Republican Party was founded to end slavery in the United States. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president, who fought the Democrats on the issue of slavery, which escalated into the American Civil War.
Democrats do this all the time. In 2012, Joe Biden famously said to a mostly black audience that Republicans want to ‘put y’all back in chains.’
