Health officials in the Kansas City area are warning of a recent outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) cases, prompting an effort from state and local health agencies to stop the spread, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
The outbreak has killed two people since it started in January 2024, KDHE spokeswoman Jill Bronaugh said. Health officials in Kansas say there is no threat to the general public.
The outbreak has primarily affected Wyandotte County, with a total of 67 active cases reported as of Jan. 24. According to KDHE, 60 of these cases are in Wyandotte County, while the remaining seven are in neighboring Johnson County.

President Donald Trump has fired the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Rohit Chopra, in the latest purge of a Biden administration holdover.
Chopra was one of the more important regulators from the previous Democratic administration who was still on the job since Trump took office on Jan. 20.
During Trump's first term, the Republican had picked Chopra as a Democrat member of the Federal Trade Commission.
Chopra was notified of his firing in an email from the White House, according to a person familiar with the notice who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly
A plane reportedly crashed on a street near the Roosevelt Mall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Friday night, igniting nearby cars and homes in flames.
The crash happened at about 6 p.m. after a plane took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
The City of Philadephia posted on X, calling the incident "major."
"Major incident near Cottman and Bustelton Avenues in Northeast Philadelphia across from Roosevelt Mall," according to the post. "Roads closed in area including parts of Roosevelt Boulevard. Avoid area."

On Saturday the US Army released the name of the pilot of the US Army Blackhawk helicopter that flew into a passenger jet landing at Reagan National Airport.
The crash was on Wednesday. The third pilot’s name, Rebecca Lobach, was finally released on Saturday, three days later.
