Vice President Harris’s strategy of riding on a surge of female support ultimately fell flat, with hints that Election Day could see a historic gender gap failing to materialize. White women sided with President-elect Trump for the third straight cycle, and he also made inroads with Latina voters and young women. Trump improved on his 2020 margins with Latina women by 8 points, according to Edison Research. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, whose country is hosting the COP29 climate summit this week, lashed out at Western media and climate activists on Tuesday for criticizing his country’s oil and gas industries.
Aliyev said oil and gas were a “gift from God,” fossil fuels cannot be eliminated entirely, and climate extremists have subjected Azerbaijan to a “well-orchestrated campaign of slander and blackmail.”
Aliyev said all of these things during his keynote address to the COP29 conference, enraging many of the attendees, even though he said he was committed to a gradual transition away from carbon-emitting energy production.
MSNBC had a pretty good night last Tuesday, beating CNN in the election night ratings for the first time. But since then, the network's ratings have dropped off a cliff. As one dejected viewer explained, she just can't take any more MSNBC claptrap without some explanation of why they got this so wrong.

Trump’s nominations are coming thick and fast, and among the more interesting is his selection of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new Department of Government Efficiency:
Despite the name, Trump clarified in a statement that the Musk-Ramaswamy effort would “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government” in tandem with the White House and its Office of Management & Budget “to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.”
So I take it there won’t be an actual department, it will just be Elon and Vivek and maybe some aides.

At least eight drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles and three anti-ship cruise missiles were aimed at the USS Stockdale and the USS Spruance on Monday.

New York judge Juan Merchan postponed his anticipated Tuesday decision on whether to uphold or dismiss president-elect Donald Trump’s hush-money conviction because of the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity.
Merchan said he would delay his decision until next Tuesday, November 19. The judge granted the prosecution’s request to delay the hearing as well as Trump’s November 26 sentencing date.
Manhattan prosecutor Mathew Colangelo asked Merchan to consider the impact that Trump’s reelection has on the ruling, according to emails filed in court.

Wallace – who joined CNN in January 2022 after nearly 20 years at Fox News – told the Daily Beast he would leave the network at the end of his three-year contract in favor of independent broadcasting.

It’s hard to know just how much of the country hates Donald Trump. The easy answer is about half. But that’s probably wrong. Much less than half of the country voted against him last week and it would be a mistake to think that every one of those Americans hates the man. Surely a significant portion of Harris-Walz voters made their decisions simply because they either like Democratic policies or oppose the Republican agenda. If so, it would seem that Trump has an opportunity to unify a bitterly divided nation.
