The Libertarian Party has chosen 38-year-old Chase Oliver as its 2024 presidential nominee.
An openly gay former Democrat who once supported Barack Obama, Oliver used his victory speech to rail against the U.S. “war machine” and demand an end to the “genocide in Gaza,” according to the Washington Examiner.
After author Michael Rectenwald was eliminated from the race during Sunday night’s voting, the final vote was between Oliver and “none of the above,” in which he ultimately prevailed with around 60 percent support. He announced economist Mike ter Maat as his running mate.

In my younger days, when I was transitioning from Democrat to Republican, I was a card-carrying Libertarian for a few years. I don't even recognize this party anymore; it's clearly morphed into the schizoid-personality wing of the Democrat party. Ar least we no longer have to worry about them embracing enough conservative principles to steal votes from Trump.

So Libertarians now support the existence of a government that is religiously exclusive, totalitarian, repressive of personal freedoms and has in its founding charter the express intention of killing every Jew on planet Earth. I long for the good old days when all they really wanted was legalization of drugs.

As I said the other day, they have become not much more than "fiscally conservative" (allegedly, but at least, it seems, when it comes to their views on funding police and the military) hippies. And this kind of childish, rebellious stupidity (choosing Chase Oliver) is why they will remain as irrelevant as ever on the national stage.

I always thought libertarians were a bubble off, but this confirms it. It is the kook party. Come on, people! It’s not difficult to see that this political party is filled with misfits, contrarians, and people who just cannot think the issues through to a logical conclusion. I have to borrow a phrase for Austin, Texas: Keep the libertarian party weird.

The libertarian “party” has been hijacked by the left, just as the Boy Scouts, our Colleges, our armed forces, service academies, Supreme Court and everything else in America. They are neutered and will no longer pose a threat to either candidate, nor make a contribution of any substance to the political discourse in this Nation.

ANY person or group supporting Hamas against Israel is so far gone that they cannot see that Hamas is 100% evil and MUST be totally destroyed.
Making excuses for Hamas proves you are either extremely easily propagandized and believe a lot of untruths, or you just like to support murderous barbarians. Either way.....you lose.

I’ve never been a Libertarian but when they first got started they had some compelling ideas. Over the years they’ve been hijacked by a lot of wackos and now they have completely sidelined themselves. Much like the Democrats. It is ironic though to see all of the derision in this thread. Republican politicians are fairly good at pretending to be normal and respectable in front of cameras.

I thought The Libertarian Party was for small government and staying out of people's lives. By denouncing Israel and supporting Hamas says that this Party has lost their way. Maybe they've been smoking too much pot.
Do they still support legalizing all illegal drugs? That makes them out of the political mainstream. Or does it?

Most normal people give up their libertarian nonsense by the time they become college sophomores.
The abnormal ones go on to join the Libertarian Party.
That is not a recent trend.
It has been true for many years.

John McCain drove me to the Libertarian Party back in the Mid-1990s. I even volunteered to work nearly full-time on the campaign of the Libertarian Candidate running against him.
That association only lasted for about 6 months. I quit when I realized that the ONLY things that the Libertarian Party actually cared about was free recreational drugs and guns. I didn't much like the recreational drugs emphasis.
