‘Why Are We in This Mess?’: DeSantis
Unloads on Trump, Pence for Covid Lockdowns

During the first Republican primary debate Wednesday, Governor DeSantis blasted former vice president Pence for the Trump administration’s record of supporting lockdowns and ushering in invasive public-health mandates during Covid. “Why are we in this mess?” DeSantis said in response to sparring between Pence and Vivek Ramaswamy on the cause of the runaway federal spending of the last few years. “Part of it, and a major reason, is how this federal government handled Covid-19 by locking down this economy,” he said. “It was a mistake. It should have never happened. And in Florida, we led the country out of lockdown, kept our state free and open. As your president,

I wouldn’t say he unloaded on Trump and Pence. He just pointed out the obvious. Certainly the handling of Covid by Trump and Pence was pitiful. Trump, if elected, certainly would not make the same mistakes he made in 2020. The debate was blissfully absent of much mention of Trump despite the hosts attempting at one point to bring up all the indictments. Only Christie and Hutchinson, to a chorus of boos, railed against Trump.

I didn’t watch the debate tonight. I did love reading about DeSantis’s reaction to Covid. We lived in TX at the time but moved to FL. So happy that FL was free of masks etc. I finally saw my sister in Canada and she had a very bad reaction to the 2nd Covid shot and is now dying from it. I want ti hear that the govt is going to rehire all the brave people who said no to the shot- airline pilots and all personnel, health care workers etc. I don’t want to hear blather about she/he shouldn’t have. This was a disaster. Fauci wanted to be a Jonas Salk. He’s far from that. He’s more compared to Mengele.

It was handled poorly from the beginning. Over reaction and the lust for power and kickbacks. But once the facts came in instead of backing off and making adjustments they just plowed ahead. Too much money going into their pockets. Censored anyone who was talking facts and making sense and pushing the covid panic button even harder. It was a mess. And, yes, Trump was there at the beginning. But FJB drug us all through the covid mud spouting more and more lies and creating chaos where none was necessary. I thought Trump was a good president and he made some excellent decisions but he placed too many boobs into positions of importance who turned out to be disasters.

I’d like to remind Mr. DeSantis he would not be anywhere near that debate stage without the support he received when he was tanking in his run for Governor from President Trump. The guy has zero self-awareness and has ruined his political career because no one likes disloyalty or anyone who goes back on his word. #1, You can rag on PDT’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, but I challenge you to name anyone who would have done a better job. Do you even remember the atmosphere at that time? People were panicked. The media declared Fauci and Brix as saviors. Donald Trump was not an expert in this area, but in those areas he was he was right on it. They told they needed ventilators and he got them. They told him that we needed two weeks to stop the spread and he did it. They told him masks were required and social distancing was imperative. He listened to the experts, until like most of us, other scientists were getting out different information before they were quickly cancelled and threatened with loss of their license. It was a chaotic time because it was the first time in modern history that something like this had occurred. Even when PDT suggested different therapies he was ridiculed and lambasted by the media. Ironically, we now know those therapies would have saved many lives. All the protocols put into place by Fauci actually killed thousands of people. So bashing Trump is a bit ridiculous. I guarantee that that will never happen again in this country. The people won’t have it and we will not go down that path again. I advocate for President Trump on this issue because he did everything in his power to stop this virus while the experts were lying about everything because democrats needed a shutdown to win the 2020 election. You want a villain? Look no further than the democrat cabal. They were willing to kill to get where they are.

Ditto to every word in #5's comments. The absolute chaos and fear we were living in was like being in a disaster movie. Hospitals had huge refrigerated trucks parked in their lots to hold all the body bags. Frontline workers (God bless them) and others were doing their work dressed in full PPE. We didn't venture out of our homes for weeks and weeks. Our elderly were kept from us, confused and some dying alone as a safety precaution. We ordered everything we could possibly get online, then keep the boxes in isolation for days out of fear they carried the disease. Once we were "allowed" to go to an approved type of store, we stood in line outside, six feet apart, until we had out turn to go in. I could go on... We trusted Fauci. We trusted Scarf Lady. And PDT did a superhuman job cutting red tape and moving many mountains to do what those health/disease experts demanded to protect us. Where were all the armchair quarterbacks back then?

Trump is a businessman, not a lawyer nor a doctor. Businessmen "brainstorm" listening to, considering and suggesting any possible solution, no matter how outrageous. Lawyers and doctors immediately refer to precedents and only accept other means when those precedents fail.

The GOPe crowd loves to bring up Trump and Covid. I believe the memo went out that that was going to be the most effective line of attack. The funny thing is that if you lay out everything exactly as it went down with the Covid response, they backtrack and agree with you, only to pick up the same line of attack in their next post. Tiresome.

DeSantis is right. If there ever was a time for Trump to be Trump, it was during the covid fiasco. As I watched him have repeated press conferences and hand over the microphone to Fauxi and the scarf lady, I felt that I was watching him give away the 2020 election AND sacrifice the American people in the process. I remember the horror of the various coronavirus 'relief' checks being sent out and insane unemployment policies. All reinforced the entitlement mentality among the lazy, non-working population. Meanwhile, hard working independent businesses suffered and more than a few went under. For good. It was a horrible, horrible nightmare and yes, with many lost lives because China succeeded in getting that awful virus into our country. I remember praying fervently for him when he was very ill with Covid himself. I'm glad he survived but I so wish everything could be rewound - both for him and the country.

#5, The prime minister and members of Sweden’s parliament would have done a better job on Covid than Trump. There were several states that didn’t shut down. Trump consistently bad mouthed Sweden’s response, even when he should have known better. I understand how Trump was pressured by the “experts” and the media. Nonetheless he made grave errors and giving him a pass on that is not something I’m inclined to do.

Trump and probably Pence were, sadly, advised that Fauci and the Scarf Lady were "top government experts in viruses and pandemics", when in reality Dr. Fraud had ordered and paid for the CREATION of the virus and is absolutely a fraud, having very limited knowledge of those two critical topics. Yet, Dr. Fraud and his evil minions were able to run roughshod over all the normal, sane, public spirited, honest doctors who had the truth. Many other "top experts", totally beholden to the big pharma companies, went along with the lies, unmindful of the deaths that they were causing, just to make billions. Perhaps some of them were motivated by population control motives, seeing millions of deaths as a desirable outcome "for the planet". Dr. Fraud ordered the two most effective drugs to be blocked, and made almost illegal, falsely called them dangerous, resulting in millions of unnecessary deaths. Trump and Pence are not medical experts, and sadly, most of the people surrounding them lied to these political leaders. Pence is not a forceful personality, so he was easily buffaloed by the fraud. One of them HCQ, is so well known as THE answer to this sort of viral infection, that the government had stockpiled tens of millions of curative doses in advance, for any such event. The first time I heard of the drug was during an interview with a top virologist, very, very early in the plague, who described the immune system overreaction and commented that "fortunately, there is a very effective drug available, hydrochloroquine, which reduces these symptoms greatly. This will be a very effective treatment." Yet, all those doses sat in warehouses while people died in dire need of them. And ivermectin was similarly blocked - and yet, in third world countries, both drugs are readily available, often over the country with no prescription. Deaths there were orders of magnitude lower than in "advanced" countries, where our medical establishments were so easily flipped to be death machines and echo chambers of Dr. Fraud's LIES. Dr. Fraud is a mass murderer. That is a hard fact.

The target was not the Federal government but the massive bureaucracy that relied on a certain group of experts, but ignored any others. One must acknowledge that it was a serious issue that developed from Jan 2020 to March 2020. Trump shut down airline traffic from China, and was criticized by Democrats. Democrat politicians were using it as a wedge against Republicans in hopes of courting the Asian vote. Even went to some Chinatown events for the Lunar New Year to declare it was safe. March 2020 it was determined to have 15 days to slow the curve so hospitals would not be overwhelmed. Some sent sick elderly patients back to their nursing home, and not one single person was held accountable for any bad decision. Except Trump, it seems. I believe over 85% of all who died during that time were over 70 years old, most with other conditions they were dealing with already. We should learn to listen to a broad array of experts, and not simply discount, shadow-ban, such information much of which is being proven to be beneficial. But, Progressive Democrats LOVE to use "experts" to convince people they know better so you should follow that direction.

The proper people to unload on were the "Experts" advising Trump and Pence. Neither are doctors. Neither could have known the advice given was predetermined to maximize American destruction. Trump isn't J.C. People make mistakes. He trusted the wrong people and they gave him bad information. He is not known for making the same mistake twice. He did some things in his first term that weren't the best decisions but he also did a lot of very good things for our country. He was new to the political climate and the people he could trust. He has learned a lot and that will wont happen again.
