House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Tuesday after he met with President Joe Biden he “did not see any new movement” on a potential debt ceiling deal.
McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) held a press conference after their meeting with Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).“I didn’t see any new movement,” McCarthy revealed. He said that everyone in the meeting “reiterated” their positions that they have long held. He added that staff will continue to negotiate.

Biden is not about to negotiate with McCarthy who has been following the MAGA conservative Republican political agenda. Instead Biden will do any future negotiating with his old Senate buddy McConnell who Biden believes will engineer another wimpy Republican “cave” in the end.

Biden's minions keep telling us that without raising the debt ceiling the US will be in "default." In my world, if you have to borrow more money to pay your debts you're already in default. (So are they really that stupid? Or do they think we're stupid? Or both?)

Typical Democrat strategy:
1). Hold a meeting and get nowhere
2). Have Schumer make some nasty comments
3). Engage the leftist media to go on a rampage blasting the Republicans and telling many lies about how Vets, social security recipients and many others will be cut off from federal funds.
4). Expect the Republicans to fold on the last day based on another lie (promise) that something will be done about the deficit in the future, and thus the can is kicked down the road again.

Newsmax (the only one that I could find)....showed the press corp, questioning Rep. McCarthy after the meeting.....If only they would ask probing, and difficult, questions like that to the President , or to ANY Demo-Crat....Sigh.....I miss the Old America!

I was momentarily optimistic when the White House actually agreed to meet with McCarthy and McConnell, but alas, it appears to be mere theater. I wish Chucky Schumer would just retire and go AWAY...

The fundamental problem for McCarthy and the GOP House majority is that the appropriations have already been passed. So Biden can keep spending already budgeted money.
Now Joe does not have to spend all of it and/or he can greatly slow spending on many programs but that does not alter the fact that Congress has already authorized the spending.
I suspect he will just stall and let it happen, And media will support him when the Treasury simply prints money or shifts it from other sources such as pension funds. When that $1,6t stimulus bill passed a few months ago the entire Congress knew, or could have seen, that the debt limit would have to be raised or exceeded.
But who really knows how the legal complexities may play out? This is new.

Biden says, "Raise the debt limit, and we'll talk about spending limits later."
Ask Senator Joe Manchin how that worked out for him and West Virginia when he swallowed that hook from Biden and Schumer.

The Republicans have to hold the line here, or their voters will simply dismiss them as irrelevant.
They are going to get blamed either way, so just shut down the government. The student loans won't get bailed out and the new IRS agents won't get hired.

McCarthy simply needs to state, it was irresponsible of the previous Congress to pass spending that exceeded the capacity to allocate those funds.
They could have raised the debt limit in the last Congress, but chose to leave it for now so they could extract (some might say extort) more spending that's only covered by continuing to borrow.
