America's Loss of Toughness Enabled Coronamania

Original Article

In the late 1980s-early 1990s, I spent many Saturdays rehabbing an apartment building above an old, fire-gutted bank at 292-98 South Orange Avenue, Newark, New Jersey with Habitat for Humanity. (Snip) Before I heard it from Dave, I had known and seen that anger could be channeled into a constructive response. But Dave’s concrete-mixing metaphor and his use of the word “hate” stuck with me. In life, as when mixing concrete, people need to show some grit and push through unpleasant tasks or life phases. Americans used to better understand this link between hate, perseverance and getting stuff done.

I'm so glad my parents(depression survivors, dad, a 3 war Navy vet, mom, defense industry, single mom before UT was fashionable) taught me that hard work, gut it up and go, nothing's free in life), showed me how to get things done. I shared/showed my kids those same messages and we couldn't be more proud of our kids who are hard working, God loving, caring human beings.

Every time I read an article like this - good article, by the way - I think of my grandparents. They were all born in the 19th century. I described them to my daughter in one word: tough. They worked with machinery; before that, they worked with horses. Some of their siblings didn’t survive to adulthood. They fought in this country’s wars. Many times, they killed what they ate. They always had guns handy. They had no use for people who would not work, or do things for themselves. When I hear people talk about how “hard” life is in the 21st century, it amuses me to think what my grandparents would have told them.

I can't access the article except for the paragraph above but agree with the posters here. When we bought our house 44 yrs ago, a lot of our older neighbors were WW2 veterans. Army and Navy. One was a retired Lieutenant General in the Army and another a retired Captain in the Navy. One was an 18yr. old sailor who witnessed the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay. My dad and my husband's step-dad were WW2 veterans. They all died years ago. I don't think the politicians would have gotten away with what they did to us if those men and women were still alive.

I shutter to think what will become of today's twenty somethings when they hit their sixties - if they hit their sixties. Many have already been trained to give up before their adult lives have begun. Doesn't bode well for our future. Seems Planet Earth is descending into madness.

I think this all started when LBJ drafted and shipped off all the good young men to die in Vietnam and left us with sorry-&^% communist betas who refused to be the men that their WWII fathers' were. We were left with the dregs and then they had kids...and those kids had kids and the beta males/radical feminists took over the public schools and universities and "sold out" and BECAME the establishment and now we have power-mad megalomaniacs like Fauci, Gates, Bidens and Clintons, not to mention holdover NAZIs. Come, Lord Jesus...

a quote that contains so much truth facebuk started banning people that mentioned it....I paraphrase. "To be peaceful a person must be CAPABLE of immediate, extreme and deadly violence, yet not choose it as constant solution...those not capable of such are not peaceful, merely harmless". Many more harmless people exist, and are only allowed to be loud because peaceful people turn the other cheek and allow them to....but there is a limit, it isn't pretty when that limit is reached or breached. I learned to shovel, axe, hammer, and sledge as a child, 300acres of woods and fields takes work, started in the trades when in my early teens...I also learned to learn, was well schooled, my trades work paid for those schools. Through my 20's and into my 50's , liberal "Buff guys" with soft jobs and corporate or academic gigs would occasionally ask where I Worked out, I've never been inside of a gym, I do not know what ANY of those machines are... I'd tell them, "I don't work out...I work outdoors". When and if the power goes off, the soft and harmless will be lost in the dark, regardless of their gym time and tanning beds...those that life made hard will SHINE.

Oh, about that mixing concrete thing...2 guys can mix 2 or three bags in under a minute, using just a section of canvas or a tarp, and rolling the mix side to side in it instead of using shovels or hoes. I learned THAT from a Carhart Khaki clad 12step mentor, he claimed it was an Egyptian trick, used to build pyramids, though they used camel skins....from a time before Iron, or steel...or even the wheel.

How the Democrats Will Come At Us 3 replies

Before Grandpa Badfinger Biden descended into his usual vortex of bizarre verbal constructions, incoherent shouting, and occasional improvised concessions that neutralize key Democrat talking points, his State of the Union speech was outstanding. You heard that right – the first 25 minutes, before he insanely got himself filmed conceding that Republicans are not about to push old ladies over the cliff by slashing their Social Security and Medicare, was the strongest, most effective speech he has ever given. It pains me to admit it – I would rather pee glass than praise him – but the current fashion of lying to oneself about the nature of one’s opponents is self-destructive.

In a move that has gotten little notice in the press, the Biden administration is proposing federal hiring rules that easily could be abused to deny employment to anyone who questions liberal, woke policies, criticizes the government, or belongs to a politically incorrect organization. (Snip) The Office of Personnel Management, the human resources department of the federal government, proposed amendments Jan. 31 in the Federal Register to the “personnel vetting investigative and adjudicative processes for determining suitability and fitness” for government employment (88 FR 6192). As the proposal explains, the term “suitability and fitness” refers to “a decision by an agency that an individual does or does not have

Tyrants once rose to power the old-fashioned way: defeating the opposition on the battlefield or at the faux ballot box. Despite their atrocities, these despots at least had some swagger. (Snip) Not so with modern-day martinets. Our 21st-century tyrants possess nothing more than useless degrees from woke institutions and deep contempt for at least half the country, likely born out of a lifetime of social isolation. History, after all, shows that outcasts often seek revenge against their childhood tormentors later in life. Such appears to be the case with the former Twitter executives who testified before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday. Ahead of last night’s State of the Union speech, the press reported gloom and doom for their president. Biden is stumbling but always remember, he is 10-0 in elections (7 Senate, 2 veep and 1 presidential). He is an idiot, true, but he is an election savant. Governing is another matter. He sucks like a Shark vacuum. The Washington Post reported, “Americans not feeling impact of Biden agenda, Post-ABC poll finds.” Of course, they are feeling the impact of his agenda. Inflation remains at 1970s levels, we humiliated ourselves by surrendering Afghanistan, and we are depleting our military to protect Ukraine’s border while ignoring our own.

On Wednesday, America will kick off another black history month. This year’s theme is black resistance. Among the 9 people featured in the official poster are Angela Davis and Malcolm X — not Martin Luther King or Clarence Thomas, men who made America better, but a pair of thugs. Davis is the communist who in August 1970 surreptitiously armed three murder defendants which led to a shootout with the police that left the judge and the three gunmen dead. Malcolm X was an ex-convict who once was the face of the Nation of Islam, a black supremacist church. When he left it, the church sent assassins who killed him.

Dozens of students walked out of their New Hampshire school after the district banned urinals in a compromise to a proposal that would have blocked children from using facilities based on their gender identity. The school board decided a few days before the Friday walkout to prohibit students at Milford Middle School and Milford High School from using urinals or shared spaces in locker rooms. The ban in a town of about 15,000 people roughly 35 miles (56 kilometers) from Concord, New Hampshire's capital, was the culmination of a long debate about district rules about bathroom use and gender identity.

You can tell that the progs who have monopolized late night comedy are scared out of their wits by the triumph of Gutfeld!, the Fox News competitor that has grabbed ratings leadership, despite a visibly smaller production budget and distribution lacking free broadcast TV stations. When it was announced that a promo video for the show would air during the Super Bowl, heads figuratively exploded. They know that exposing the show to the gigantic Super Bowl audience, many of whom had never heard of it, would inevitably drive sampling, and that some of the new viewers would stay with the show, further driving down their ratings.
