Fire department officials across Southwest Florida are urging electric vehicle owners to take action after multiple EVs caught fire due to water damage from Hurricane Ian – a hazard costing emergency services precious time in recovery efforts. "It's just the allocation of resources that we have to put towards these fires," North Collier Assistant Fire Chief James Hammond told FOX Business’ Madison Alworth in an appearance on "Varney & Co." Friday. "And it just ties up resources a lot longer." A top Florida state official warned Thursday that firefighters have battled a number of fires caused by electric vehicle (EV) batteries waterlogged from Hurricane Ian( snip) at risk of corrosion,

Comments:

Ten already in one county. One fire official said there are potentially thousands that are “ticking time bombs”. Salt water = corrosion.

I think battling battery fires requires using some sort of foam. How many fire departments have fire equipment that uses foam? I know airport fire equipment uses foam, but not generally your neighborhood fire department.

Make EV owners pay an additional water damage, flood, hurricane and fire fighter foam premium. Make the insurance so high it prices EVs out of business.

"Electric car insurance cost vs. other vehicles We compared the cost of car insurance for 24 popular car models to find out how the cost of insuring an electric car compares with the cost of coverage for gas-powered vehicles. On average, insurance for an electric car is $44 per month more expensive than the cost of insuring a gas-powered car. Out of 24 vehicles, the top two most expensive to insure — Tesla's Model Y and Model 3 — are electric. The only way to battle a EV fire is to keep it from spreading to whatever is next to it. Its actually the water that is burning.

Can't even imagine evacuating a hurricane in an EV looking for a charger. Who would be that stupid ? Your battery would be dead on the road and you'd be blocking traffic.

Don't tell that to the 'greens', they do not want to hear it. THey do not want to know these EV can explode whilst being charged and you are told not to park inside a garage because the fumes are so overwhelming. Furthermore, the heavy batteries tear up our streets. But who wants to know anyway, we have to make the world a lot dirtier so that we can be 'green', right, isn't that what you look like when you are in a body bag?

Per no. 10. As a former insurance agent (long retired), I wondered what the rates between EVs and gas vehicles were trending now. I’ll ask my former partner, see what he says, and post the results. The loss ratios for all vehicles in Florida will all go up (plus property rates). We will see more rate increases in the future plus insurance company withdrawals. Insurance is already expensive enough in Florida.

You know maybe this is God’s way of cautioning that EV’s in their current iteration are not very practical, safe, or necessary. Call me when it takes no longer to charge an EV than to fill the tank, and when charging stations are as ubiquitous as gas stations, and when parts are cheaper and safer. THEN they might be worth while buying.

A federal judge in Texas has issued a ruling that prevents federal mandates from imposing pronouns and unisex bathrooms on employers. In State of Texas v Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Matthew Kacsmaryk, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Texas in Amarillo, declared the March 2, 2021 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights Guidance and June 15, 2021 EEOC guidance unlawful. However, the court stopped short of granting the state’s request for injunctive relief. “Title VII as interpreted in Bostock does not require such accommodations,” wrote Judge Kacsmaryk in his Oct. 1 decision.

Donald Trump is the kingmaker of the Republican Party, and for that reason alone, he remains the best choice for 2024 despite the firestorm of negative media coverage, censorship, and the looming threat of indictment, which have haunted him since being forced out of office in January 2021. In the time since Trump has been gone, Americans have watched their economy tank, their freedoms attacked, and we are now disconcertingly close to an out-and-out ground war with nuclear Russia. Meanwhile, Democrats plan to do irreparable damage to institutions (like the Supreme Court) that have checked the worst excesses of liberal hegemony. Florida’s law barring businesses from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination is likely legal, a federal appeals court has ruled.
