A second earthquake equipped with an aftershock rattled the Bay Area on the heels of Monday's milder earthquake felt in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, a 4.4-magnitude quake with a 4.3 aftershock a minute later hit Santa Rosa, California, at 6:30 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). It comes just a day after a "small" 2.6 magnitude earthquake was felt in Canoga Park, California, roughly 430 miles southeast of Santa Rosa, even though the USGS said earthquakes usually aren't felt if they're less than a 2 magnitude on the Richter scale. A quake is considered "small" when its

Having never been in an earthquake, I have no personal reference point for how bad a 4.4 quake really is. California residents may shed some light. I do understand it from an engineering standpoint, though. I have designed some bases for large marble sculptures in the local art museum to withstand this level of shaking, since a local geology professor said that this the maximum level of quakes expected in the KC area.

There are many more factors than the magnitude. 2.5 however is a forgetaboutit. 4.4 would knock bottles off grocery store shelves… maybe somebody’s knicknacks might topple. Our signatl in my childhood home in Pasadena was the Westminster chime by our front door. When the brass tubes clanged together it was time for we kids to gather under the huge, very heavy dining room table. Most quakes of any size caused plaster cracks.

2.5 is nothing. You can't even feel it. You need scientific instruments to know it happened. There are dozens of 2.5s all over the state every day. 4.4 is around where people might start to notice if they were close enough to the epicenter. Again, these happen on a regular basis and no one pays any mind. Wouldn't knock anything off a shelf unless maybe you were right on top of it. At 5+ you know there's a quake. At 6+ it's a big deal and weaker structures will start to crack or even fall down. At 7+ it's a huuuuge big deal and some folks are going to die and buildings and bridges and such will start taking serious damage or collapse. Never seen an 8+. An 8+ would be catastrophic and do unspeakable damage that would take years to recover, certainly kill a bunch of people, and require lots of outside help to recover from. Insurance companies will be denying claims or go out of business. Economy will essentially halt. 4.4 is a joke. 2.5 didn't happen.

Thanks, #9 for the reference info. My design was a wide base, wirh a low friction stainless under surface and a teflon pad underneath so that the ground could move sideways with the large sculpture mostly holding still because of the sliding of the teflon. Sounds like it should work. Theory says it should.

Heinrich specifically asked about a proposed DHS plan that was turned down by the White House, to mitigate the border crisis by rerouting migrants across the country including the northern border with Canada. Friction between the Biden White House and senior officials at the Department of Homeland Security over how to handle immigration is mounting, according to internal documents and communications reviewed by NBC News, as the number of undocumented migrants crossing the southern border keeps rising and Republican governors send migrants to more Democratic-run cities. The White House has recently hosted a series of high-level meetings on immigration, where DHS officials have presented options, including flying migrants to the country’s northern border with Canada to alleviate overcrowding on the U.S.-Mexico border, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the discussions. An accelerating campaign by Republican governors to send migrants to Democratic strongholds, initially seen by many Democratic officials as a political stunt, now has those officials scrambling as migrants unexpectedly arrive in a widening number of locales. The latest instance of the campaign came Wednesday afternoon when planes carrying 50 migrants seeking asylum, mostly from Venezuela, landed unexpectedly in Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s office confirmed that the state orchestrated the flights. The moves follow similar efforts by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden celebrated his climate change and drug pricing law, The Inflation Reduction Act, on Tuesday on the White House lawn, highlighting Democrats' commitment to progressive priorities even as high consumer prices continue to bite. Inflation rose more than expected in August, continuing to create severe financial pressure for U.S. households even as the cost of gasoline fell. The Labor Department said Tuesday that the consumer price index, a broad measure of the price for everyday goods including gasoline, groceries and rents, rose 8.3% in August from a year ago. Prices climbed 0.1% in the one-month period from July. Those figures were both higher than the 8.1% headline figure and 0.1% monthly decline forecast by Refinitiv economists, likely a worrisome sign for the Federal Reserve as it seeks to cool price gains and tame consumer

Especially considering the “demographic winter,” which is so evident in Spain and Italy. “In Italy there are empty villages with just twenty old ladies and nothing else,” he said. “Why can’t we make a policy in the West where immigrants are included with the principle that the migrant should be welcomed, accompanied, promoted, and integrated?” he asked.

They are recommending surrender to the leftists who are persecuting Republican conservatives.
