Jean-Paul Belmondo, whose bad-boy presence in Jean-Luc Godard’s new wave masterpiece “Breathless” established him as the French idol of his generation, has died, Variety has confirmed. He was 88. For more than a decade following the release of “Breathless,” Belmondo reigned as one of France’s top box office stars. The actor was likened alternately to James Dean, Humphrey Bogart and Marlon Brando for his brooding, charismatic persona, and he proved able to work in virtually any genre. After “Breathless,” the cult that formed around him was dubbed le belmondisme by the French media. Unlike Dean, who was a rebel without a cause, Belmondo’s antihero persona was more existential

The Most Brutal Poll of Biden’s Presidency

Just three months into Joe Biden’s presidency, his polling numbers were already showing signs that the honeymoon was over. A Washington Post/ABC News poll taken at the time showed that despite incessant media fangirling, Biden’s approval rating sat at 52%, which was the third-lowest 100-day rating since the days of President Harry Truman. Things haven’t gotten any better since that time as Biden has taken hits for his handling of the economy, the Wuhan virus pandemic, the border crisis, and Afghanistan. In fact, a trifecta of polls released within a 24-hour time span of each other last week showed some of the worst numbers of his presidency but he still

Like the last two Democratic presidents, Joe Biden is heading for a mid-term disaster. Just how big that disaster will be is hard to say at this point. Will it be as bad as the 1994 Bill Clinton wipeout? Democrats lost 54 House seats and eight Senate seats, handing Republicans control of the House and Senate for the first time in more than 40 years. Perhaps it will be as bad as Barack Obama’s Obamacare catastrophe in 2010 when Democrats lost 63 seats? The best indicator for the health of the party in power has always been the president’s approval numbers. And Biden’s numbers are in freefall.

During a Tuesday press conference in New Jersey, President Biden stumbled over his words and wound up claiming that people no longer use the word “tornado.” While this peculiar moment has been covered by a handful of news outlets that aren’t right wing by any stretch of the imagination, the Biden-friendly broadcast TV networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC) have avoided discussing it entirely, even though all three offered extensive coverage of his trip. The members of Congress know from their colleagues in Congress that, you know, the, looks like a tornado — they don’t call them that anymore —

Eight months of bad governance are finally catching up to him, according to the latest Presidentish Joe Biden approval numbers. Biden has lost traction with all voters, including core Democratic constituencies, pushing him below 40% — a near-record for any president in his first year in office. The only president with worse first-year numbers — and then even only barely worse — was Donald Trump, after relentless attacks and fake RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA conspiracy theories. Today’s numbers come from the left-leaning The Economist/YouGov Poll and are actually worse than they appear at first glance.

Joe Biden is a wild animal that can not be tamed, or at least that’s the perception White House staffers are sharing. According to Politico, some of them have gotten into the habit of muting or even turning off the president when he’s speaking because they are so anxious that he’ll go off-script, begin taking questions, or otherwise And while this is being spun as a concern that he’ll simply end up off message, I think we all know what that really means. I suppose this is part of working for a president who is in steep mental decline, and Biden shows no signs of slowing down. The concern about messaging

Democrats may have carved out $3.5 trillion in their budget resolution for their second massive spending bill on reconciliation, but they won’t get to spend most of it. According to Axios, Senator Joe Manchin has told the White House that his target for spending is one trillion dollars, with perhaps a cap no higher than $1.5 trillion. That shaves at least two trillion dollars off of Joe Biden’s planned progressive wish list and presents new headaches for both Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi: Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) has privately warned the White House and congressional leaders that he has specific policy concerns with President Biden’s $3.5 trillion

ALBANY – Attorney General Letitia James’ office has issued a subpoena to the state Joint Commission on Public Ethics for its records on Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's book chronicling his administration's early response to the coronavirus pandemic, the Times Union has learned. The subpoena was issued in connection with a criminal investigation that the attorney general is conducting into whether Cuomo's use of government workers to assist him in writing the book violated any laws. James’ issuance of a grand jury subpoena in the matter does not confirm that a grand jury has begun reviewing evidence in the investigation. But it does signal

Rep. Thomas Suozzi (D-NY) said Tuesday he would not support the $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill if Democrats would not increase the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, which primarily benefits wealthy Democrat states. “No SALT, no deal,” Suozzi, a House Ways and Means Committee member, said Tuesday. The committee, which writes tax policy, will have large sway over the crafting of the $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill. “I’m pushing for full repeal,” he added. Republicans limited the SALT deduction to decrease most Americans’ taxes

According to data compiled by the Centers For Disease Control, approximately one in every 5,000 vaccinated Americans has tested positive for the coronavirus. That number is probably much lower in places with significantly fewer cases — like the Northeast, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco areas, where it is probably fewer than one in 10,000. This is the first detailed data about so-called “breakthrough” infections — positive tests from people fully vaccinated. The data suggests that politicians and public health officials are wildly overreacting to the delta variant’s effect on the already vaccinated.

Welp, that was a short marriage. Mere months after glowingly calling the new love of their life “a return to adulthood,” no-longer-swooning European leaders have kicked the inept “cheater” — beleaguered Joe Biden — to the curb, correctly labeling his haphazard, unilateral, disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, “cowardice,” “the greatest debacle that NATO has experienced since its foundation,” and worse. At the NATO summit in 2017, French President Emanuel Macron dug his fingertips into then-President Donald Trump’s hand, as reported by the BBC, staring him in the face. Macron would later say: “It wasn’t innocent. In my bilateral dialogues, I won’t let anything pass.”

Though delayed by Democratic quorum breaks, Texas has officially joined the slate of Republican states that have enacted new voting restrictions following the 2020 election. Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday signed into law Senate Bill 1, sweeping legislation that further tightens state election laws and constrains local control of elections by limiting counties’ ability to expand voting options. The governor’s signature ends months of legislative clashes and standoffs during which Democrats — propelled by concerns that the legislation raises new barriers for marginalized voters — forced Republicans into two extra legislative sessions.

New York — The board of directors of Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest LGBTQ rights organization, has fired its president, Alphonso David, because of developments related to the sexual harassment case that prompted Andrew Cuomo’s resignation as governor of New York. The co-chairs of HRC’s board, Morgan Cox and Jodie Patterson, said in a statement Monday that the board had decided to fire David, effective immediately, after the completion of an investigation into his actions related to the allegations against Cuomo. This Sept. 11, a diminished president will preside over a diminished nation. [Snip] Joe Biden was supposed to be the man of the hour: a calming presence exuding decency, moderation and trust. As a candidate, he sold himself as a transitional president, a fatherly figure in the mold of George H.W. Bush who would restore dignity and prudence to the Oval Office after the mendacity and chaos that came before. It’s why I voted for him, as did so many others who once tipped red. Instead, Biden has become the emblem of the hour: headstrong but shaky, ambitious but inept.

Perhaps, at long last, the deadly reign of Anthony Fauci will come to an end. That’s because The Intercept, a hard-left publication, has revealed 900 pages of government documents definitively proving that Fauci used his position to fund gain-of-function research into bat viruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (“WIV”)—and then lied to Congress about it. Since February 2020, the wizened Fauci has been the face of the government’s response to the pandemic. In the ensuing 20 months, Fauci was frequently wrong, incredibly arrogant, and deeply dishonest. Because he was the anti-Trump, though, we were stuck with him.

This gender enrollment disparity is a trend that has been happening for a while now, but at this point the divergence between men and women is becoming pretty dramatic. At the close of the 2020-21 academic year, women made up 59.5% of college students, an all-time high, and men 40.5%, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of enrollment data from the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit research group. U.S. colleges and universities had 1.5 million fewer students compared with five years ago, and men

They’re going to impose a lifestyle on the Afghan people that I think is going to make us all sick to our stomach.
