Republicans win House, delivering Trump
a trifecta

Original Article

Republicans are projected to keep control of the House of Representatives, handing the party total control of Washington with former President Trump back in the White House in January. Decision Desk HQ projected the GOP would hold the House by winning its 218th seat, the number needed for a majority in the lower chamber. The result is a major win for Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), who skyrocketed up from obscurity to lead the House GOP not only legislatively, but had a large role in its campaign infrastructure. Republicans saved some of their most vulnerable incumbents, like Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) and Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.), while defeating several vulnerable Democratic incumbents.

Well, this would be great news, and would suspect a few Democrats may find themselves switching parties in the coming weeks. Today's Democrat party is extreme and far-left now. Nothing like what many might remember from even 15 years ago. JFK could never have been elected in today's Democrat party, and don't think Bill Clinton could either he was too Centrist and Pragmatic. Remember how the Democrats pushed out all of their Blue Dogs?

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, whose country is hosting the COP29 climate summit this week, lashed out at Western media and climate activists on Tuesday for criticizing his country’s oil and gas industries. Aliyev said oil and gas were a “gift from God,” fossil fuels cannot be eliminated entirely, and climate extremists have subjected Azerbaijan to a “well-orchestrated campaign of slander and blackmail.” Aliyev said all of these things during his keynote address to the COP29 conference, enraging many of the attendees, even though he said he was committed to a gradual transition away from carbon-emitting energy production.

MSNBC had a pretty good night last Tuesday, beating CNN in the election night ratings for the first time. But since then, the network's ratings have dropped off a cliff. As one dejected viewer explained, she just can't take any more MSNBC claptrap without some explanation of why they got this so wrong. If you’re like me, you haven’t turned on the news since last Tuesday when Donald Trump won the election. Personally, I can’t bear to listen to another minute of wisdom from Joy Reid, my friend Lawrence O’Donnell or the admirable Rachel Maddow. I can’t hear Anderson Cooper, or Abby Phillip. Trump’s nominations are coming thick and fast, and among the more interesting is his selection of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new Department of Government Efficiency: Despite the name, Trump clarified in a statement that the Musk-Ramaswamy effort would “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government” in tandem with the White House and its Office of Management & Budget “to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before.” So I take it there won’t be an actual department, it will just be Elon and Vivek and maybe some aides.

One of the biggest winners of the 2024 election was Scott Jennings. The folksy columnist and former George W. Bush staffer was a dominant force in his role as CNN's token Republican, regularly holding his own in one-on-five debates with Democrats and journalists who support Democrats. As a normal American, Jennings often seemed out of place on CNN, mostly because he wasn't afraid to criticize Democrats but also because of his insightful commentary and because he never lost his cool—or his sense of humor—when his remarks were inevitably met with incredulous screeching. When Jennings wasn't calling out his onscreen

Sunday night, someone plastered a bunch of wanted posters around the University of Rochester. The posters featured various members of the faculty, many of whom were Jewish, along with text saying they were "wanted" for their response to Israel's invasion of Gaza in response to the 10/7 attack on Israel by Hamas. Hundreds of posters depicting Jewish faculty members as “wanted” were plastered across the University of Rochester campus in upstate New York on Sunday night, an antisemitic act the school’s president told CNN “would not be tolerated.” The posters criticize faculty members for their alleged response to the war in Gaza.

A multiple-missile attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on two US warships has been thwarted, the Pentagon has said. At least eight drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles and three anti-ship cruise missiles were aimed at the USS Stockdale and the USS Spruance on Monday. The vessels shot down the projectiles and were "not damaged and no personnel were hurt," Pentagon press secretary Air Force Major Gen Pat Ryder told reporters on Tuesday. The attack followed a series of airstrikes made by the US Central Command against Houthi weapons storage bases in Yemen.

Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign donated $500,000 to Al Sharpton’s nonprofit organization just weeks before the anti-Semitic MSNBC host—who once said that "diamond merchant" Jews have the "blood of innocent babies" on their hands—conducted a friendly interview with Harris. The campaign’s remittance to Sharpton’s National Action Network was part of a flurry of donations—$5.4 million in all—to black and Latino advocacy groups that seem aimed at winning Harris support from those constituencies. Harris’s campaign gave two payments of $250,000 to National Action Network on Sept. 5 and Oct. 1, according to campaign finance records.

The US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit summarily vaporized 46 years of Federal environmental regulations. Writing in a case called Marin Audubon Society, et al v. FAA, et al, the majority of a three-judge panel ruled that the Council on Environmental Quality, a cabal inside the Executive Office of the President charged with ensuring that National Environmental Protection Act requirements are interpreted uniformly across the federal government, had illegally used the Federal Register to publish that guidance thereby giving citizens, agencies, and even the courts the impression that their internal guidance had the authority of law.

Not Richard Grennell, eh? I bet the intelligence community feels pretty nervous now. Donald Trump hasn't made his choice of Director of National Intelligence public yet, and now Grennell's available. Grennell would have had an inside track on Secretary of State after his tenure as US Ambassador to Germany in the first Trump term. Instead, the New York Times reports that Trump will appoint Marco Rubio to run the State Department, where he will work with Elise Stefanik as Trump's ambassador to the UN. That signals more muscular approach to foreign policy than perhaps expected, but still focused on American priorities than paying homage to the progressive global order:

Air pollution breathed in by women during pregnancy may be linked to a greater risk of developing autism, according to new research. A review of the latest literature found babies with a genetic predisposition to autism exposed to four common air pollutants were more likely to develop the condition. It's thought that when breathed in during early childhood or in the womb these pollutants can get into the bloodstream. There, they can bypass the protective layers of the brain, causing inflammation, changing the way nerves function and develop.

Donald Trump’s thumping re-election threatens to upend the business of an industry he’s sworn to protect: Big Oil. Should his incoming administration follow through on plans to once again pull the United States out of the landmark 2015 Paris climate agreement—as a way to loosen regulations on fossil fuel companies—it could actually end up hurting companies like Exxon Mobil, according to the oil giant’s CEO. President-elect Donald Trump's promise to unleash a big oil boom in the US and lower gas prices is running up against a market reality: The world is already awash in fossil fuels. ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods told Semafor on November 12 that while he wants to maintain US oil production at its current highs, the market is already well supplied. "I don't think today that production in the US is constrained," he said. "I don't know that there's an opportunity to unleash a lot of production in the near term."

It’s hard to know just how much of the country hates Donald Trump. The easy answer is about half. But that’s probably wrong. If so, it would seem that Trump has an opportunity to unify a bitterly divided nation. Still, there’s an angry, petty and vocal faction on the left that has no interest in unity because
