Terry McAuliffe Skips Campaign Events
Days Before Election

Virginia gubernatorial candidate and former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) appeared to cancel or skip campaign events only days before Tuesday’s bellwether election. McAuliffe, on Thursday night, did not show up for a “Get Out the Vote” (GOTV) event in Prince William County. Instead, the candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Del. Hala Ayala, appeared in McAuliffe’s place. Following the recent trend of Virginia Democrat candidates having low turnout at campaign events, Ayala seemed to be speaking before a smaller crowd.

Well, yeah, I can see why the Democrat crowd is so small. The Democrat operatives are busy going over to Kohls to buy white shirts and khakis, the Republican HQ to get a MAGA hat, and then over to World Market to buy a Tiki Torch. Then they gotta find a Youngkin bus and call the McAwful campaign to be sure they tweet about the "white supremacists" (even if they're black) that are supporting that despicable Youngkin.

Democrats don't have to worry about campaigning anymore or even that their ideas are unpopular. They've perfected the midnight ballot drop so any remotely close election from now on will always go their way.

The Democrats know by now that it is the people who count the votes who determine who wins elections and not the people who legitimately vote in those elections. That’s the way it is, and will not change until the wimpy Republicans wake up as to how the Democrats are counting votes that were not legitimately cast in accordance with election laws passed by the State legislatures in accordance with provisions of the US Constitution.

Despite trailing former governor Terry McAulife by as much as six and a half points in the RealClearPolitics polling average as late as the last week of August, Youngkin ultimately triumphed thanks to a hyper-focus on local issues and a commitment to walking the line between Trump supporters in rural, southern Virginia and wealthier suburbanites who were alienated by the MAGA wing of the party. We’ve been talking about the upset in Virginia and what looks like a red wave sweeping through that state, at this point, with the top seats all being called for the Republicans. But that’s not the only race that could be an upset. A bigger upset may be underway in New Jersey — my former deep deep blue state. There was no way that anyone would predict that Jack Ciattarelli could even come close to Gov. Virginia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe said Tuesday night that he will not yet concede the election as major news outlets have called the election for Republican Glenn Youngkin. Major news outlets have reported that political outsider Youngkin will defeat McAuliffe in the Virginia gubernatorial election, marking a drastic transformation for Republicans ahead of the pivotal 2022 midterm elections. However, even though Youngkin is poised to win the election, McAuliffe said Virginia should count all of the votes before declaring a winner. “So, we still got a lot of votes to count, we have about 18 percent of the vote out,” McAuliffe said. Democrats analyzed Virginia Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin’s election victory over former Democrat Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Tuesday. NBC and MSNBC’s political analyst Julian Castro suggested Democrats lost because the media was not effectively controlling the “narrative.” “Youngkin has shown Republicans that they can launder dog whistles through huge unregulated platforms, driving base turnout—even while distancing from Trump,” he said. Richard Signorelli insinuated the election was lost due to “Trumpism.” “The only way to defeat Trumpism is to hold him & his accomplices accountable for their federal/state criminality STAT,” he claimed.Larry Sabato, a professor of Politics at the University of Virginia, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow the race turned into a “bloodbath.”

Former President Donald Trump mockingly credited Democrat Terry McAuliffe with turning out “MAGA voters” in Virginia for Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin, who held a solid lead Tuesday with 85 percent of precincts reporting. McAuliffe and top backers, including President Biden, sought to make the vote about the Trump, who lost the state by 10 points last year. But the race was widely seen as a referendum on Biden’s performance. “It is looking like Terry McAuliffe’s campaign against a certain person named ‘Trump’ has very much helped Glenn Youngkin,” Trump said in an email blast.

Republican Glenn Youngkin won the Virginia gubernatorial race by what appears to be a comfortable margin. Here are five quick takeaways. 1. If this race is a bellwether for 2022, next year will be a monster landslide for Republicans. Joe Biden won Virginia last year by 10.1 points. And the previous Republican gubernatorial nominee, four years ago, lost by 8.9 points. In fact, until Tuesday, no Republican had won anything statewide in Virginia since 2009. Yet now, the old conventional wisdom—that Virginia is a blue state—has to be retired. Youngkin seems to have shifted the vote by a dozen or more points, from minus 10 points to plus a few.

Voters in Minnesota's largest city have rejected what would have been an unprecedented move to dismantle the police department at the ballot box Tuesday following calls for reform following the death of George Floyd. The measure asked voters if they favored amending the city's charter to replace the Minneapolis Police Department with a Department of Public Safety. The initiative would have removed language from the charter related to the agency, including minimum funding requirements, and would have divided control of public safety between the mayor and City Council. It would have essentially removed power from the mayor and police chief in an effort to re-imagine policing.
