It Don't Come Easy

Original Article

Often, I derive inspiration for my writing from songs — certain titles or lyrics just seem to wander into my brain and jangle around it until I find a way (and the time) to sort them out on the page. Ringo Starr’s “It Don’t Come Easy” has been doing just that of late (not the lyrics, just the title) as it relates to the concept of change — particularly changing minds. I’ve been thinking a lot about political discourse — how fractious and perilous it most always seems to be. We’re a far cry from the spirited — but generally good-natured — debates I recall from my younger days.

Inside the article: "Reflexively, I took the position that, while I sympathized with her parents’ desire to keep their daughter alive, legally the call belonged to her husband (absent concrete evidence of wrongdoing on his part)." Just like a doctor cannot operate on one's own family, I firmly believe that a husband should not be making a "life or death" call on a spouse. . .

To clarify a little more, a husband should not be making a "life or death" decision concerning a spouse. It is not known if there is trouble in the marriage. . .

I played IDCE about a week ago and have woken with it in my head each day since. One of the most memorable songs of my youth. Still wonder whether it's George H. or Eric C. on the epic guitar solos.

FTA: "We’re a far cry from the spirited — but generally good-natured — debates I recall from my younger days. I suspect that’s in large part due to the primary way we communicate now..." I would suggest that this is the product of television turning political discussion into an arena sport, starting with such as "The McLaughlin Group", "Crossfire" and 60 Minutes' "Point-Counterpoint", immortalized by SNL and "Jane, you ignorant (sleeze)." Today the conflict people demand while concurrently claiming to abhor is everywhere. We see it wherever disagreement arises...and it isn't going away. Why not? The masses revel in the theater of politics, mindless of the deeper issues. Editorialists and commentators have been replaced by shills and influencers. And that's the way it is...

The woman who claimed Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker paid for her abortion in 2009 was friendly with Walker’s wife and supported his campaign as recently as May, text messages reveal. Breitbart News obtained screenshots of messages from May between Walker’s accuser and the candidate’s wife, Julie. The messages, first reported by NBC on Friday, suggest the woman, who would later go to the left-wing Daily Beast with claims against Herschel, had entirely different sentiments about his Senate bid when his campaign kicked off after the May Republican primary. On May 24, the day Herschel, a Georgia football legend, was expected to handily win the primary, the woman texted Julie, “Good luck tonight!!!

Nevada Republican gubernatorial candidate Joe Lombardo and U.S. Senate candidate Adam Laxalt slammed their Democrat opponents for the state’s nearly 16 percent inflation while speaking to an energized crowd during a Trump rally in Minden, Nevada, on Saturday evening. “If we do not finish this red wave off in 2022, we’re just going to be California,” Laxalt warned, to which the crowd responded with emphatic “boos.” Former Nevada Attorney General Laxalt questioned the leadership of vulnerable incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and her “almost 100 percent” President Joe Biden-aligned voting record.

Sen. Mitch McConnell has no excuse. The ads his political group is producing to attack Alaska Republican Senate candidate Kelly Tshibaka are beyond the pale. Campaign attacks intensify in October because as the election runway gets shorter, it takes a sharp message to catch voters’ attention and seal the deal. But the money being spent by McConnell and his Senate Leadership Fund to attack a fellow Republican — one who may win and join the Senate to be his colleague — should shock the sensibilities of all conservatives. And it is shocking Alaskans, indeed. McConnell’s determination to destroy another Republican’s reputation is driving Alaskans away from the Republican Party

We’ve been covering a lot of data points that are moving in the direction of the Republicans just about a month before the midterm election. We see a Republican likely to win a House seat in Rhode Island — a deep-blue state — that hasn’t had a Republican in the position in 30 years. We also see Democrats saying they are up against it when it comes to money. They have to cover so many races where the Republicans are either winning or gaining. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has confessed they’re going to have to abandon some races monetarily which could cost them the House.

Democrats are napping peacefully through the US-Mexico “border” crisis they engineered. Perhaps these data will snap them from their slumber: The US Department of Homeland Security reports that the Mexican cartels’ income from smuggling illegal migrants into America has soared from $500 million in 2018 to $13 billion this year — up 2,500%. If these criminals merged into a corporation, their 2022 gross revenues would rival that of — are you sitting down? — Fox Corporation. Fox News Channel’s parent company earned $12.91 billion in the year ended June 30, 2021, and $13.97 billion 12 months later.
