Long-time political commentator Chris Matthews said Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that former President Donald Trump was being blasphemous by claiming he is God. Matthews said, “This presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is saying, I am the shepherd. I’m him. I’m God. It’s astounding to me. It’s astounding to me that he can talk like this. It’s blasphemy.” [Snip] Matthews added, “I don’t know if the Democrats have really thought through this campaign and what they’re up against. This guy’s calling himself God. And if he can get away with that, then it is truly a cult.”

Considering the headline on this article to be sensational, offensive, and inaccurate, took the time to read it and watched the embedded six-minute video of Chris Matthews claiming that President Trump is saying he is “the shepherd” and “he is God.” Mr. Matthews appears to think that President Trump’s supporters are “really poor people” and, seemingly, needing to be “directed/educated” to save them from being part of a cult. He emotionally appeals repeatedly for the current administration to “do something” to put an end to or curtail the support for President Trump he sees as a threat to the presidential election in November.
It has been written that Liberals will never understand Conservatives, Conservatives will never understand Liberals and, to some extent, that is true; however, Conservatives are far more fair-minded, reasoned, and capable of facing reality rather than illusion. If anything stands out in this assessment of President Trump’s supporters, it is elitism—that people of means, of wealth, of stature are more advanced than the average American and, therefore, the average American needs a government nanny.
Although unable to find the video or a transcript of President Trump’s recent endorsement of Mr. Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” Bible, if President Trump did refer to himself as being a “shepherd” he was not wrong in the sense that Scripture teaches God selects heads of nations so, to some extent, Donald John Trump became a “shepherd” to this nation on January 20, 2017. Furthermore, clergymen are considered “shepherds” as could be Sunday School teachers or anyone attempting to lead or guide others on a safe path. It is not very likely that President Trump would dare to suggest himself as being God so that “declaration/understanding” is very likely the incapacity to grasp someone’s sense of humor or a lack of attention to detail and context that created a mistaken perception. Decades ago an executive said something that has amused and served well through the years: “There are times when people become intoxicated with the exuberance of their own verbosity.” Perhaps that definitive nugget needs to be a consideration when it comes to members of the mainstream media.

We do not think Trump is God, for goodness sakes. But we do think FJB is evil. I also make more than $50,000 and I am not the dumbass that Matthews implies. I do not need the elite woke liberal of the east coast holding my hand and leading me down the path to tofu, electric cars and a meat free existence. Are you better off today? Is the world better off today? Do you see your future getting better under FJB? Simple questions. And since most dems don't believe in God I don't know why Matthews has a bug up his butt. Wasn't it Obama who had his face on Newsweek or some such magazine with a "halo" of light? These guys really must be scared to steep this low.

Projection, pure and simple. The left has been a cult since the 1960’s, and Chrissie is the one who got a tingle up his leg over Obama. To (roughly) quote Scarlett O’Hara: “Chris, you’ve lived in dirt so long, you don’t know anything else.”

Looks to me like the horror of calling Trump "Hitler" has worn thin. So maybe "God" is the new worst thing they can call him.
April Fool's Day suits MSNBC well.

Where was this fool when one of HIS gods, George Soros, proclaimed to be godlike? You can watch the video of the evil Emperor wannabe saying just that! Unless it's been scrubbed from the internet.

Wait, didn't Chris Matthey used to be somebody important? I don't know what happened to him?
I guess the rehabilitation of Chris has begun and the media will soon welcome him back into the liberal hive.

Leftist Chris Wallace may have lurched uncontrollably into the truth. The movie The Passion of the Christ makes clear what they did to the Lord is precisely what Democrats are doing to Donald Trump. MAGA-FJB

The charge is just false mudslinging if there is no videotape of Trump actually making the claim.
Videotape of the type we have of Obama claiming that his Presidency would "stop the rise of the oceans". Such a claim might cause one to think that Obama was claiming Godlike ability.

Sadly, Chris Matthews is trying to be relevant on a subject that really makes him look ignorant and uninformed especially because he supports a political base that is trying desperately to take God out of society. It is not way off base to use the descriptive term, shepherd. In Old Testament times, David was a shepherd and became a leader.
To Chris Matthews, try opening up the Bible, reading it from beginning to end, and maybe then you will be more informed. . .

These ex-Catholics are the worst. Listen, Trump is talking up and distributing the actual primary source, while Democratic formerly-Catholic talking heads are selling their own interpretations. Which is the problem? All the former Catholics on Capitol Hill just go around making stuff up and trying to lead the way. It is they who presume.

#21~ Before David there was Moses, who was shepherding his father-in-law’s sheep when he came to the Burning Bush and learned that God was sending him to bring His children out of Egypt. (Exodus 3:1, 10-12) The Lord asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” Moses replied, “A staff.” (Exodus 4:2)
Dictionary definitions:
Shepherd: “One who herds, guards, and tends sheep. One who cares for and guides a group of people, as a minister or teacher.”
Pastor: “A Christian minister or priest having spiritual charge over a congregation or other group. A layperson having spiritual charge over a person or group. A shepherd.”
Staff: “A stick or cane carried as an aid in walking or climbing. A stout stick used as a weapon; a cudgel. ~ To supply with a staff or with workers. To serve as a staff member of.”
As #1 noted, God selects heads of nations so when President Trump took the Oath of Office, he became a “shepherd” with a “staff” of government employees to lead this country--to lead God’s children. In Romans 13:1-14, Scripture teaches: “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. ...” People are to submit to government authorities but do have free will to disobey man’s commands if they are contrary to the Lord’s commands as did Peter and the Apostles. (Acts 5:29) During President Trump’s administration, there were no commands that insulted or violated God’s laws—he was a “shepherd” caring for and respecting God’s “children.”
