EV Battery Plant requires Refiring a Coal
Plant for Power

Original Article

EV are quickly becoming a boomerang to the head of Leftists. I have reported on various backfires on EV, that should cause panic to the Green Weenie crowd. For example, car manufacturers are scuttling plants, as well as production of EV. Apparently consumers don’t want to buy the cars having seen the real data. The cars are more expensive to operate than their gas-guzzling cousins. [snip] But things keep getting worse for the EV market. Because EVs require batteries. And those factories need power. Lots of it.

Comments:

So, they need even more coal fired power to make EVs. Insanity.
This battery plant is only five miles from my rural home. They are stringing a HUGE new powerline to this place, the kind that are 80 ft high and carry six huge wires on giant insulators, from a large power substation about 5 miles to the plant. I'm hoping it gets cancelled due to low battery orders.

This plant is supposed to be 5.5 million square feet and employ thousands. If that were a square it would be 2,345 feet on a side. This is just a bit under half a mile by half a mile. And I looked at a satellite photo....it's more like 2.5 miles from my rural home. I hope they cancel construction soon due to reduced demand for the damned batteries.

The plant will need 250 megawatts of electric power. If they get this from their magical windmills, with a "book rating" of 1 megawatt each (the big ones with 300 foot blades), and they are all running at FULL power, it would take 250 of them. Of course, these things only make power sometimes and rarely full power. A friend in the power industry says that they average about 30% of 'rated power'. So, they need 833 of those giant windmills to power this battery plant. Online sources say the installed cost per megawatt for these windmills is between $2.5 million and $4 million each. So, for 833 of them, that works out to between $2 billion and $3 billion for just the windmills.....not including the power lines to get the power to this plant....several hundred miles of high tension power lines required. Yep, that 'free power' is pretty damned expensive. And lithium batteries are made with coal power.

A new poll out from Emerson/The Hill shows that Joe Biden trails President Trump in seven of the key swing states: Yet, in spite of those numbers (and other disapproving indicators), Biden found it wise to announce on a recent podcast that the Second Amendment was “never absolute” and all that talk about Thomas Jefferson’s “tree of liberty” reference is a “bunch of crap.” Brilliant Joe, absolutely brilliant—so brilliant in fact, I’d like to suggest that his staffers organize those comments into sound bites to accompany his campaign ads, and then run them in the very swing states in which he trails,

Many decades ago my four year old daughter was invited to play at a neighbor's house with another little girl while visiting her grandparents in an upper middle class neighborhood. While there, she was attacked and knocked down by the neighbor's Doberman that went for her throat while she on the ground. Thankfully the bite occurred under her arm pit as she instinctively raised her arm to protect herself. The dog clamped down and shook her like a rag doll. Fortunately the owner's teenage son was there and got the dog off my daughter.

The prosecutors and judges in New York are utterly unhinged, an overly-obvious reality evidenced by the onslaught of lawfare against President Trump (in an election year no less) emanating from the state; but it’s not just Alvin Bragg, Arthur Engoron, and Letitia “Peekaboo” James using their offices and the courts to wage persecutory campaigns of political vendettas against those who don’t toe the establishment line, but Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez and Judge Abena Darkeh, too. Aside from Mr. Trump, a bright and accomplished man named Dexter Taylor might be the second-most unfairly persecuted person currently fighting off bogus charges in the “justice” system. A recent video shows a disabled girl confined to a wheelchair being bullied at her middle school. She’s taunted, struck, and tossed around. Those watching and videotaping giggle hysterically. It’s horrible. It also shows sociopathic behavior that is increasingly normalized in America, especially among blacks. This isn’t because blacks are inherently sociopaths. It’s because the Democrat party has deliberately stolen from them the societal institutions that create decency. Note: I am not saying that blacks are inherently criminal, sociopathic, stupid, or whatever other words a Democrat would put into my mouth. To say so—to say that negative traits, values, and behaviors are tied to skin color—would be deeply evil and racist.

Even the subheadlines are substandard at the Washington Post. In “Gazans go hungry as aid groups step back” (04/04/24), the subheadline reads, “Israel’s war has wrecked Hamas civilian rule, with no alternative in place.” The anti-Israel bias at the Post is as clear as the clearest day. It is not “Israel’s war.” To say so exposes the authors’ animus against Israel, ignoring how this war started and who the perpetrators were. To remind The Washington Post, on October 7, thousands of Hamas combatants followed by Gazan civilians stormed through the borders of Israel, murdering; mutilating civilians, including children and babies; and taking hundreds of hostages, including babies.

Elite higher education in America -- long unquestioned as globally preeminent -- is facing a perfect storm. Fewer applicants, higher costs, impoverished students, collapsing standards, and increasingly politicized and mediocre faculty reflect a collapse of the university system. The country is waking up to the reality that a bachelor's degree no longer equates with graduates being broadly educated and analytical. Just as often, they are stereotyped as pampered, largely ignorant, and gratuitously opinionated. No wonder polls show a drastic loss of public respect for higher education and, specifically, a growing lack of confidence in the professoriate.

It was specifically created to describe how the Nazis sought to eliminate the entirety of the Jewish population in Europe.(Snip) This narrow definition under international law consists of two principal prerequisites: intent and a specific group’s physical destruction. Currently, there are politically motivated and rhetorically irresponsible charges of genocide leveled at Israel.
