It's Happening: US House Passes Landmark
TikTok Ban Amid Rising Data Security Concerns

The House of Representatives on Saturday passed what could be landmark legislation that would ban TikTok in the United States unless its parent company agrees to sell the video-sharing app to a U.S.-based company. Some have taken this development as a sign that it is “inevitable” that the bill will become the law of the land. The proposed legislation, which has its share of proponents and detractors, is aimed at preventing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from covertly accessing the data of Americans using the app. If it becomes law, it could become a pivotal moment related to government involvement in digital communication.

Pro Tik Tok ads have been running quite often, using senior citizens as the main user group. No mention of the propaganda, immoral, sexual and violent videos being perpetrated on our kids.

Sounds good, but biden the cheater would never sign such bill into law. Why would he since it would be good for the country. And fat chance a bill like this would make it out of a dim-senate, anyway.

Never been inclined to venture into TicTok assuming there are many nefarious influencers involved. But everyone is on Tik Tok and the younger generation seems addicted to it. Not a good thing.

Most internet browsers track every move you make and sell that info to whoever will pay. The Govt can and does buy that info as well. Although laws prevent them from accessing it directly. they've got all the info. I've heard a VPN blocks active monitoring, but certain apps like tictoc embed tracking software supposedly.

My bet is that it is a "Conservative Media Ban" and will have little or no real affect on the ChiCom brainwashing app.

This legislation goes hand-in-hand with the FISA reauthorization. It’s all about allowing the government to spy on its citizens.

The ban has nothing to do with content, it’s all about looking tough with China during an election year. Liberals could care less about any moral arguments. If they thought it would get votes, they would be doing their own garbage TikToc videos. Banning won’t affect VPN connections via foreign countries with no ban. At least it will keep it off public computers which such as schools and government workers and many homes that don’t want to pay for VPN services, $100/yr or more.

My take: The government wants Tic-Tok sold to an American company, because the CCP won't respond to our government warrants for info on users.

The NYPD began arresting dozens of student and faculty protestors at New York University Monday night where anti-Israel demonstrators had earlier set up a “Gaza Solidarity” encampment, according to the college’s newspaper. The cops in riot gear cuffed the protesters – who are demanding NYU divest from holdings tied to Israel over the ongoing violence in Gaza — with zip ties and led them to police buses that had arrived near the campus hours earlier, the university’s student-run newspaper Washington Square News reported. Moments earlier, police blasted a message over a megaphone, ordering the protesters to disperse or face arrest for trespassing, according to the newspaper.

(WASHINGTON) — A majority of Supreme Court justices on Monday appeared sympathetic to an Oregon city making it a crime for anyone without a permanent residence to sleep outside in an effort to crack down on homeless encampments across public properties. The case, City of Grants Pass v. Johnson, carries enormous stakes nationwide as communities confront a growing tide of unhoused residents and increasingly turn to punitive measures to try to incentivize people to take advantage of social services and other shelter options. “These generally applicable laws prohibit specific conduct and are essential to public health and safety,” argued the city’s attorney Theane Evangelis during oral arguments, which stretched

Once upon a time, U.S. students were awarded gold stars for achievement; merit was the American way. These days, that celestial system has dimmed -- DEI is lighting the way. Consider the case of Kristina Raevsky, a 14-year-old from Queens. The eighth-grader has a lot to be proud of: Per the New York Post, she's "published four books" and won trophies for debating. Her attendance record is perfect. And where grade point average is concerned, Kristina's killing it -- she boasts an immaculate 100. Amid her pursuit of excellence, the youngster has harbored a dream: to go to Flushing's Townsend Harris High School. But in 2024, accomplishment alone won't cut it.

"Why are Palestinian protesters, and even rioters, allowed to roam the Cities, scream, shout, sit, block traffic, enter buildings, not get permits, and basically do whatever they want including threatening Supreme Court Justices right in front of their homes, and yet people who truly LOVE our Country, and want to

But there is also a political pendulum that swings back and forth; as recently as the '80s, there was a trend wherein it was "hip" for young people with hippie-Boomer parents (full disclosure - not

As the dust seems to be settling in the Middle East, who is coming out on top? Perhaps, Reuel Marc Gerecht and Ray Takeyh write in the Wall Street Journal, it is Iran. First, some history: Iran’s theocratic regime has to stand as the most successful imperial power in the Middle East since the British Empire. The comparison would offend the mullahs, but both managed to patrol large swaths of territory by relying on proxies—imperialism on the cheap. Soon after coming to power in 1979, Iran began putting together its collection of terrorists and militants. In Lebanon, it created Hezbollah, established a tight relationship with the Palestine Liberation Organization

Heated protests have roiled Columbia’s campus in the last week. New York City police arrested 108 anti-Israel activists on Thursday after the university’s president asked law enforcement to step in and break up the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment.” Dozens of protester tents occupied campus for over 24 hours, which the university deemed a safety concern and a violation of university policies. “We say justice, you say how? A new study out of UCLA says same-sex couples are at greater “risk of exposure to the adverse effects of climate change” than straight couples. These effects include “wildfires, floods, smoke-filled skies, and drought,” according to a report from KQED. Same-sex couples disproportionately live in coastal regions and cities, which are more vulnerable to such disasters. They’re also more likely “to live in areas with poor infrastructure, worse-built environments.” Washington DC, which rates high for “climate risks” such as heat waves, floods, and “dangerously strong winds,” has the greatest proportion of gay couples in the U.S. San Francisco ranks second, and also faces a high climate change risk.

A massive new anti-Israel tent city took over Columbia University on Sunday, just days after an NYPD raid cleared another intrusive encampment there and cuffed more than 100 protesters. At least 30 tents were sprawled across the Manhattan Ivy League school’s West Lawn along with piles of food and supplies as embattled university officials struggled to contain the growing crisis. The upheaval and threats to Jewish students have become so intolerable that a prominent rabbi at the prestigious school urged them Sunday to stay home — and university officials told them they could take classes online. “We are looking for our demands, and we are going to continue that,”
