Update 10: Emmanuel Macron has arrived on scene, and is giving a speech outside the cathedral, after authorities claimed that the body of the cathedral has been ´saved and preserved´. "It is our common history that is burning, he said." Emmanuel Macron gives speech outside Notre Dame https://t.co/XGqDe9w2Jb — euronews (@euronews) April 15, 2019 Meanwhile, a drawing of Quasimodo, the animated hunchback of Notre Dame from the 1996 Disney film, has gone viral as a symbol of mourning and loss after the tragedy. Comments:
This is the latest in a series of updates that started earlier today. Probably the best reporting of all on the devastating Notre Dame Cathedral fire. I imagine it may continue to be updated.

Holy week.

Mooslim "Workers".

Admitting it was Jihadis would require a response and we can´t have that.

Even The Hildabeaste proved she would rather
smoothe it over than have to respond in kind.

Sure am glad they so quickly figured this had nothing to do with:

(1) the threats by Islamists to burn it down; (2) the previous attempt to by Islamist to blow it up; or
(3) the hundreds of other church arsons and vandalisms throughout France.

That´s fascinating and awesome detective work!

I just want to know how they knew it was construction and not swamp gas or a weather balloon.

I just saw pictures of the inside and it is not too bad. The altar and Cross remain undamaged. I believe God was looking out for those. The roof is basically gone and makes the structure dangerous--but it seems not as awful as it looked from the pictures of it burning. I know who did this. I think most people know who did this.

We must wait for the facts, of course, since truth is often the first casualty in such events. This is especially a problem with governments and press that protect certain policies and groups.

That said: jihadists are at least "persons of interest" in this matter.

It would be great if some of the precious relics survived this, but again: places, buildings, artifacts, and persons are secondary to Christians. Our treasures are [or should be] where no one - not even Satan - can touch them.

Let this remind us of what - and Who - is important this week.

The news is much better than I feared, after examining many photos from this AM.

The primary structure of the cathedral is the stone walls, the flying buttresses and the interior stone roof vaults. These interior stone roof vaults almost totally held up the huge burning wooden roof beam mass of fire and embers, keeping almost all of it out of the interior.

The literally fantastic news is that these stone interior ceiling arches are largely intact. The wood roof structure with copper exterior sheeting is not primary structure, just a weather cap to keep the water out of the primary stone structure.

The majority of the primary structure, my estimate is about 95-98%, is intact, with just the wooden "rain cap" destroyed. This wooden roof is something that is not seen at all from inside the cathedral, and while historic, not terribly architecturally or artistically important, and can be rebuilt, although it can never again be original. :-( Only one full interior stone roof vault is shown fallen, and one small hole. Amazing. I think the prayers were largely answered.

Of course, NOW the race is well and truly on to get some sort of a temporary rain cap on to protect it from water damage from coming storms until the new roof can be built, which will likely take years.

(cont´d)

But, as an engineer who has studied cathedral structures since art history in college 50 years ago, and visited many, and gone up inside whenever it is possible, to learn more, this is WONDERFUL news.

And it appears that the organ largely or totally survived, and the great majority of the art and artifacts were saved. And the bronze statuary from the now fallen small central spire had been removed for repairs, did not get destroyed. The main towers with bells seem 100% intact.

SO, SO much better than I had feared. Prayers of thanks will be sent.

Last week’s fire in the world’s most famous Gothic cathedral, Notre-Dame de Paris, reminds us of the increasingly awkward political issue posed by the immense achievements of the European past. (Snip)Thus, in today’s Coatesian Age, it looms larger than it did a generation or two ago whether one’s forebears built Notre-Dame or a hut. In an era when our most influential voices attempt to unite our increasingly diverse and therefore divisive ethnicities around demonizing the forefathers of Europeans, the overwhelming beauty of the cathedrals of the high Middle Ages is, as they say, problematic.

Progressive organizations, many financed by billionaire activist George Soros, are working overtime to restore voting rights for Florida’s nearly 1.4 million ex-felons as the nation’s biggest swing state seems poised to play a pivotal electoral role in the 2020 presidential race. The current battle revolves around a Florida state amendment that was passed last year restoring voting rights for felons, with progressive groups opposing a local bill that would require the state’s ex-felons to first pay civil fines and court fees before registering to vote. Florida’s Amendment Four was approved by voters during last year’s Midterm election.

For all of the rhetoric about our supposed liberal international order, the world is more chaotic and unstable than it has been since World War II. Disorder reigns. And for the technocratic, democratic globalist elites in the West, this disorder can only be repaired with the right combination of U.S. tax dollars, the blood of American servicemen and women, and a desire to remake entire societies in our image (or, at least, in the distorted image of postmodern, Western elites). Candidate Donald Trump did not conspire or collude with the Russians to hack the emails of the DNC or John Podesta. Trump did not distribute the fruits of those crimes. Nor did anyone in his campaign. On collusion and conspiracy, said Mueller, Trump is innocent. Mueller did not say Trump did not consider interfering with his investigation.
