Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral Is on Fire
Daily Beast, by Victoria Albert

Paris’ centuries-old Norte Dame Cathedral is on fire, according to video footage tweeted Monday afternoon. The city’s deputy mayor, Emmanuel Gregoire, confirmed the blaze on Twitter, warning Parisians to avoid the area. [Tweet] It’s not yet clear what started the blaze, or how extensive the damage will be—but footage shows flames engulfing the French Gothic cathedral’s spire, and quickly spreading to other parts of the building. Sixteen copper statues were removed from the Cathedral Thursday as part of restoration efforts. Officials say the blaze may be linked to the restoration. Paris is currently flush with tourists ahead of Holy Week.

Was it set?

Easter Sunday is the Highest Holy Day in the Catholic/Christian Faith.

Hate Crime or accident involving the restoration process?

There was a deliberately-set fire at St. Sulpice (2nd largest cathedral in Paris) last month.

In the very early 1970s, the first time (of many) that we visited Notre Dame de Paris, my then girlfriend (now wife) and I, hitchhiking around Europe, walked into the cathedral one afternoon.

We were looking with wonder at the beautiful interior, and then someone began to practice with the organ. The cathedral was essentially empty, no services going on, but the organ practice was magnificent. We sat down and just reveled in the magnificent, beautiful sounds which seemed to penetrate right through you, and come from all directions. We stayed until it ended, about half an hour. A wonderful memory, even almost 50 years later.

A very sad day.

And I wonder, where are the jihadis? That whole upper roof section, which we have walked through a portion, is all ancient oak timbers. A jihadi workman up there could slip over to a corner and start a fire. Perhaps just an accident, but the jihadis are ALWAYS looking for a way to harm Christians and Christianity.

Where are the firefighters, planes that could help douse the fire? Are they going to let the entire cathedral just burn down? As usual, nothing ever moves too swiftly in French brains! This cathedral was a treasure for the entire world.
Yes, my money is also on some Muslim thug who would have had an easy time setting something on fire. Consider all the chemicals that are used when something has to be restored. AND it just takes place during Holy Week! Too much of a coincidence!

Its construction began decades before the signing of the Magna Carta. Regardless of the fire´s cause, I predict stories of chaos and incompetence in the coming days and weeks. It´s in a major city, and it´s immediately adjacent to the Seine. It seemed to burn largely unimpeded for a couple of hours.

I´m glad I got to see it a couple of times, and I´m sickened by its loss.

Back in March of last year, the Kim Jong Un regime told a group of South Korean special envoys that it was willing to discuss denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and normalization of its relations with the US. According to the interlocutors, Pyongyang also promised that it would refrain from conducting further missile and nuclear tests so long as its prospective talks with Washington continued. That pledge was apparently intended to lock Washington into negotiations until the Kim regime got what it wanted. But the US has flipped the script, as it now appears that North Korea is the one

The Democrats are setting themselves up for a possible, even probable, disaster at their nominating convention in Milwaukee, July 13 – 16, 2020. The party that created the concept of “superdelegates” to rein in their crazies may have outsmarted themselves by allowing them to vote only in the second or later ballots. As the field evolves and Joe Biden’s still undeclared candidacy appears to be chaotic, the party elders (the ones with big money fundraising capabilities) are very worried that socialist Bernie Sanders will walk away with the nomination and lose to Donald Trump in a landslide. This election cycle seems to have begun earlier than past cycles, perhaps because the Democrats are too anxious to get on with the show. Their eagerness, possibly creating a burn-out factor, could work against them, but there are other issues at play which will prevent them from gaining the White House. At this stage there are at least four elements to consider: OVERPLAYING THEIR HAND As ‘The Gambler’ says: “Know when to hold ‘em, Know when to fold ‘em.” For over two years the Democrats were convinced theirs was the winning hand, but their hole card didn’t play out. In the wake of the horrific Easter terrorist attack against churches in Sri Lanka, The Washington Post published an article slamming "far-right" political leaders for ... saying that Christians were under attack. The Orwellian article suggested there was something untoward about reporting on global Christian persecution — by selectively quoting far-right European and American leaders on the issue and ignoring the broader discussion. The bombings, which claimed the lives of at least 321 people and wounded more than 500 others, took place on the most important holiday for Christianity, the day Christians remember the Resurrection of Jesus.
